I noticed playing Allies in 1939 that the Siegfried Line is undefended by air cover, so, lacking anything to really do with France until Germany was done digesting Poland and Denmark, I sent my bombers to attack the under-defended units there in the snow. No damage was incurred on either side, but I did notice my air crews gain combat experience. I figured this was good enough, and just continued while targeting some of the German positions that were close to Belgium and had air cover, which resulted mostly in RAF and Luftwaffe interceptors duking it out slightly in favor of the RAF, and I figured this was good enough and kept it up. The thing is, it doesn't look like the air superiority units gain experience from participating in combat as escorts to bombers. I have 55% experience bombers at this point, but still have 50% experience fighters. I can't check on the German side, but I suspect it's similar. If so, I suspect this might be a programming oversight. Since you can't give a "just go fly over there and shoot down anyone who flies up near you" order to air superiority units, it seems like this cripples exp gain for air units that are being used as intended.
