• 1,555 AV on Saipan.

• The APA at Babeldaob are breaking off without unloading their remaining supplies just to avoid shore fire. Three of them are heading directly for Pearl Harbor for repairs. An LST convoy with gun platforms for support is loading to bring in supplies.

• Babeldaob looks as though it will be tough. The B-29's begin hitting troops tomorrow. A battleship bombardment group will be on hand for the first assault, which will not take place until the troops are fully ready. The troops have plenty of supply for at least a couple of assaults but I want to get them fully ready plus get the defenders disrupted by air strikes.

• 1,571 AV on Saipan. The next assault will be ordered when AV hits 1,600.

• Forgot to turn off unloading supply at babeldaob and another APA got roughed up but can be fixed without a shipyard.

• The troops on Babeldaob are OK but Disruption remains at 10. The B-29's began their work today. The LST convoy bringing supply is on the way, about 5 days out. A fast BB bombardment force is about 3 days from being able to bombard, so I will likely coordinate that with the first assault.

• Invasions forces for Yap have already begun loading. An LST convoy with supply will meet the invasion convoys at Yap. A battleship bombardments group is already on station.

• 1,605 AV on Saipan. The USMC division came up short of supply when the Rgts were recombined, so I will wait a turn for supply to move between the units. Ground assault the day after tomorrow, and an LST convoy will land >50,000 tons of supply the same day. There are 123,000 tons on Saipan.

• We should have the port at Watampone expanded in about 5 days to allow us to land radars for the AA. In about 8 days the night fighters will arrive and be readied as fast as possible.

• Tow or three days before an attack between Pegu and Moulmein. We hVE 1,043 AV already in place across the river, but recon of enemy shows: 12 units; 45,520 troops; 352 guns; 527 AFV. We are keeping together those units which must cross the river and therefore must shock attack. They have 22 miles out of 46 traveled and are a mixed group on infantry and tank units. The infantry is in Move mode for tomorrow, which I am hoping puts them in position to switch to Combat mode and cross the river the following day.

• I am making plans to take Port Blair via air drop with naval and air support as there are only 1,000 troops and a few guns there. It will be a couple of weeks.

• Tomorrow more than 1,900 AV will shock attack across the river SE of Pegu while more than 1,300 AV already there makes a deliberate assault. Hopefully as many moving enemy units as possible are there to receive those affections. We have two additional units still approaching from the NE (already across the river) and will arrive tomorrow but miss the party.

• There are somewhat fewer troops at Port Blair today, so I speculate they are being flown out. I'm going to change plans a bit and get that operation underway as fast as possible.

• We have 4x Bdes crossing the river SE of Toungoo to move on Chiang Mai. No enemy opposes the crossing.

Japan, Korea, Manchuria, Russia

• Still busy waters.

Nice to see Saipan fall, but your losses in destroyed infantry squads give pause!

Especially with all of the bombardments. Maybe just have the other units bombard while the armoured units, stripped of the soft elements, attack?

I do think Saipan will be the worst of the Marianas as it had the most troops by a good measure. Still a shade under 30,000 after the next turn (posting shortly). Crikey!

• 707 AV on Babeldaob. Fatigue is low.

• Our losses were too high at Saipan so almost all the troops will rest. Some armor will assault with some artillery support.

• Invasion of Yap tomorrow, we will land one Rgt and two ART Bns. Another Rgt will land in a few days.

• The units assigned to lightly defended Rota are low on preparation but more importantly one units is at sea. Tinian will be the next target. The USA 6th ID has to be brought in from Lahaina, but we are still cleaning up Saipan anyway and have yet to start lifting off over stacked troops.

• Between Pegu and Moulmein we have 3,216 AV, but I am giving the troops another day to recover. One units has high Disruption (44), and a number of units have Disruption in the teens. The Empire is moving troops up from Moulmein so clearly thinks it can delay further here. Recon shows 7 units; 30,560 troops; 230 guns, and 113 AFV. We have 35,465 infantry, 84,486 second line troops, 1,445 guns, and 1,721 vehicles. Terrain is Wooded. With our strong and building air support this is a good place to destroy/attrite enemy units.

• A convoy with 200,000 supply is now at Rangoon. We are airlifting in an air HQ.

• Enemy heavy cruisers are spotted 1 hex NW of Victoria Point. We have cruisers defending Rangoon, and while our carriers are spotted they are defended by battleships with more cruisers on the way.

• 656 AV on Babeldaob. The troops probably need 3 days to recover, although 2 days might suffice. The 32nd Infantry Division has a bit over 30% of infantry squads disabled and I would like to avoid getting a bunch of those destroyed, but I also don't want to drag this operation out too long.

• Yap is ours and the troops will continue assaulting to clear the island.

• Next assault against recalcitrant Imperials on Saipan is tomorrow.

• We have lifted 3 regiments off of Saipan. Base forces are loading at Kusaie Island for Saipan. The base is fully repaired and airfield expansion is beginning.

• That was a very nice haul of destroyed enemy devices. I hope we can do that again at Moulmein.

• There are two tiny units remaining in the hex between Pegu and Moulmein. Those will be targeted by bombers just flown into Prome and assaulted by a division with low disruption and a regiment just arrived in hex. Afterwards All units will move for the Moulmein river crossing.

• After that stupid sub attack the carriers surface elements are moving west. After that they will move south to cover the Port Blair assault.

Japanese Unit(s) surrounded at Saipan

• 622 AV on Babeldaob. The troops will need a few days to recover, but that will allow for rebuilding of AV anyway. The 32nd ID infantry is plenty hurt.

• Only one enemy unit remains on Saipan, with more than 12,000 troops. Most of our units assault tomorrow.

• Engineers are 2 or 3 days out from Yap.

• Can't afford to win many battles like that one. In fact, most of the IJN ships looked just fine when almost the entire RN line was smoking. I have a feeling that DD Okinami evaded detection and escaped with CA Mogami after the battle.

• Our damaged ships will clear the area; all are heading to Colombo. POW will probably head to Cape Town because Colombo is plenty busy and will be more so when Repulse and Renown pull in with their much lesser damage extents.

• An engineering unit is loading at Madras to repair and expand Port Blair's airfield. Meanwhile a small base force is boarding transport aircraft at Calcutta to brave the modestly damaged runways, although the radar and perhaps some other equipment will have to move by ship. A larger base force is boarding ships at Bombay.

• 20 miles covered, 3 days from now until the river will be crossed into Moulmein.

• Three Bde's have crossed the river NW of Chiang Mai and are now adjacent to that place and closing. About 14,000 enemy troops present plus a Bde or Rgt to the west. A fourth Bde will cross the river in a few days and initially be charged with keeping the LOC open.

Japan, Korea, Manchuria, Russia

• This AO just wanted to participate.

Great progress that turn!

I think you are right about Babeldaob cracking; you don't get that many destroyed devices in naval bombardments unless there is a very high % disabled in the units.

On Saipan, that last remaining unit is an Army HQ, and it probably has almost all of its support squads disabled. Note the 61 disabled support squads in the CR, while all the other categories were destroyed only.

That battle was tough on your DDs but even tougher on his cruisers. How many times does a player get to sink two IJN CAs and three CLs in one go?! I suspect that TF was trying to take on your CAs and CLs that were bombarding Pt. Blair. Good thing it ran into Force Z first. Your cruisers should now have an uncontested playing field off Burma, methinks.

I didn't know 9th Division is an HQ. The Allies have a few that are also weirdly named like that.

I figure he thought there was going to be an amphibious landing at Port Blair and the cruisers were sent to engage the transports. I faked 'em out!

Excellent surface combat there. Have POW and the R BCs had substantial upgrades at this point or are they similar to what they began in '41? They seemed to perform very well. I don't know about the IJN mixing CAs and CLs. I've found that it never works for me. The CL's seem to just get in the way. In fact, they seem pretty useless to me. I only use them as a lead for some slower DD TFs or in Fast Transport TFs.

All of those ships were up to date with upgrades/refits. POW was doing well until a torpedo struck home, I think she took some additional shell hits after that.

I didn't track it super closely, but it seemed like all the IJN cruisers got good hits on Allied ships. I agree about separating ships as you say and that usually works out better for me, but this time the mix seemed to work well for Japan.

I wonder if those 3 Fltchers on surface picket duty intercepting the IJN group first did some good by using up ammo?
