From Moscow's point of view, and (I know, it's early for them, but ... poetic license , right?)
the soon-to-be "Night Witches" arrive for training,

in the game Dave and I are playing (the 1.9 version, latest restart ... I think this is our third go at it) Kolatov's 26th is tearing up Hungarian rail systems that use the Kosice Basin, very nice destruction there, a couple hundred Soviet tanks and their infantry. Well, the 26th Army. A screenshot of that is back under the first page of posts, #14 . Anyway, in this go, my Partisans are indeed spawning now :) helping to sow confusion near the Polish border (they blew two good bridges back there, huzzah!)

Showing here Pskov, with 1st Mech Commander photoshop into unit info ... that is Mikhail Chernyavsky. I show where it would be cool to have his "commander stats" shown in that little area I have boxed. Anyone know if that TOAW: Commanders mod or upgrade is still in the works, maybe a time line of release? Even maybe a beta test of it? Screenshots? Inquiring minds want to know!

from my game w/ David (v1.9) just finished Sovs turn 9.
The frumpish fellow I photoshopped in there is Ivan Boldin.
Don't know much about him. He looks tired.
No doubt, trying to hold Kishiney. Fingers crossed!
From the situation briefing, it looks like the German shock has dropped to 120 ...
I expect David will be using a Shock Chit soon!

Sure, here is AGC railroad from turn 32 early Oct. '41...will take me a bit to get AGN / AGS to show.

AGN is railroad all through Estonia to Tallin, all the way to Narva. Struggling to get to Luga.
AGS is railroad to Kiev not much farther than that. Will post pic when I can.

Here is Kiev / Zhitomir from my game w/ David,
Smirnov managed to hold Zhitomir to keep Germans from more shock on T13,
but I think he used an offensive chit / TO last turn to bust through.
Smirnov will soon meet his fate, as was case in RL.
I had hell finding his pic, looks like a Chess player to me.
Also photoshopped in a thing on the picture,
his medals are not right, i need to figure out which medals to give him.

Tallin under Gerasimov (photoshopped in here, I hope he is on that list.)
I can't quite make out his medals.
One is Order of Suvorov (2d Class)? but that is a post-war medal?.
not sure when sketch was made, maybe post-war medals on there.
He is a determined looking fellow. Must be, he survived the war.

I think Tallin will hold at least another turn

Probably the photo was made in 50's.
There is Order of Kutuzov (1st class) on his right side - rewarded 22/09/43.
Others are 2 Orders of Red Banner (he had 4 in total - 1921(2), 43 and 49), Medal "XX years of RKKA" (1938), Medal "For the Defence of Leningrad" (1942).

Hi

I am currently playing version 1.9 with Søren, and in our game (currently on turn 77), the partisans work fine.

The first partisans to appear are 6 small "Remnant" units that appear after the germans take Bialystok, Minsk, and Kiev. 2 units for each city. These units do not reconstitute. It appears that you did receive these units and that the Germans have destroyed them (since I can see that you have taken partisan squads casulties)

And after that Russian partisan units appear in 3 ways:
1) Some appear after certain other cities are taking
2) Some appear on a certain turn - the first on turn 47
3) Some appear after certain events are taken (the first such event is the first Russian winter offensive).

Since you are in turn 20 you will not have received any partisan under 2 and 3 yet.

Regarding the city-based partisans: they appear after the below cities are taken:
Pskov
Soltsy
Luga
Novgorod
Pskov
Staraya Russa

Have the Germans take any of these? If not then that is why you have not received any partisans yet.

I hope this helps, if not then please write again.

Regards
Kristian

Thank you! I see now why I haven't seen them lately but did in other games. Great scene! We love it!

Here is another shot of my game with David, his approach to Moscow.
Vyazma must hold! SHOOT THE ARTILLERY!!
Soviet artillery is the only attack vector available to the Soviets for the first 20 or so moves....
without being chewed to pieces by the Luftwaffe

I am very glad you like it.

The German player seems to be in a lot of trouble :)
It does not look like he achieved any of objective to gain the shock turns on turn 7, 13 and 19.

Anyway, having fun is the most important part.

Søren is bound to kill me in 1942, but it does not matter - it is the process that matters in a game like this - not the end result :)

Yes, he did get the first one at turn 7 / 8
but not the others.
Not sure if or when he used the offensive chits for German

@Sovs 24 I had told David a few turns ago I thought I had finally
stopped AGC b/w Smolensk and Vyazma,
but he's blown through a big gap and Das Reich is driving hard
for the outskirts of Moscow,
Vyazma in trouble now on 24.

Leningrad starting to sweat too. Pretty fun game.

@end of Soviets turn 47.
The Soviet Winter Offensive rolls next turn.
Seems like a whole bunch of heavy HQ have gathered around
Bryansk to discuss things with Cherivichenko.
I wonder what they are planning?
Fun game!

after Sovs turn 50,

oh...we're going to Gomel :)

and who the heck is P. Harrison?

I can just imagine somewhere back in the States some Top screaming,
"WHERE The &*$#@$!3 did Harrison go THIS time??"

"I dunno, Top, he was mumbling something about wanting to go to Russia
to fight them Nazis."

Top: "#@(#*$&%*($"

Harrison, traditional Russian name.

Boldin, busy fellow early on. Proved very capable of getting surrounded and then fighting his way out.

So, the last game David and I played we reached the beginning of the first Soviet Winter Offensive, our
agreed "point of decision" and .... SUDDENLY, A RIP IN THE FABRIC OF SPACE AND TIME HURLED US BACK
TO JUNE 1941, and so we begin anew.

This is becoming to be a really fun game for us; I used to look at it as a
chore to play but playing the Soviets has become a lot of fun for me, firing up Sacred War, booming the artillery and other news reels for atmosphere, putting on my fake Stalin mustache, learning about the Soviet Generals, carefully tending the Gardens of Reinforcements at Chelyabinsk, Gorki, and Kazan ... really fascinating stuff to be found in FitE2 (like the notorious Partisan unit P Harrison :)--

I am really glad to have encountered Mr. David, he's a really fun opponent. Well, this is our 4th? 5th? stab at
"the Beast" and I am hoping that we will reach turn 70+ this go, if not complete a 400 turner. Estimated run rate
to complete the game from this start point for us is about 16 months.

SO, now we are at turn 5 again, and Mr. D has taken the first three cities for the shock bonus etc. and ...
here is Ukraine area: Kiev (SW Front HQ there). Farther North Mr. D has decimated the Sovs and is knocking
at the Gates of Minsk.

@ Soviets T10

Germans drove up to Opochka. Mr David said, "where are the Russians?"
Then 21st Mech showed. Check that load of brass on Lelyushenko,
man, after the war he must have had a personal detail just to carry that stuff for him.
Hero x2, Order of Lenin x 6, Red Banner x 4, about a boatload of other stuff,
this dude must have been a Tyronosaurus Max,
sheesh

Pavlovskiy its an actual person.
Pavlovskiy Fyodor Illarionovich (Павловский Фёдор Илларионович) - http://www.warheroes.ru/hero/hero.asp?Hero_id=5679
On beginning of the July 1941 he organised the partisan unit that had a sucess. On 6 August 1941 he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union also Order of Lenin and the medal The Golden Star.
About January 1942 his partisan unit and some others local partisan units was re-organised to more larger that got a name "Pavlovskiy's garrison" ("гарнизон Павловского").

Lelyushenko finds a copy of German film footage, obviously sent to East Front Wehrmacht soldiers to bolster their morale! Skip to about 3:40 for good shooty parts ....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tL_H8X5B0i0

Now awaiting Mr. Dave's German move 15 .....
Lelyushenko now reported MIA. Partisans / Remnant are searching nearby woods and swamp for him.
Holed up with some cozy bear in the bear's den, no doubt. That is one tough hombre.

But the Major Sergeant's intrepid actions have bought time to give the Soviets a bit of breathing room! Great game!
