63 – 18 score in the air today.
Tojo and Frank losses are sustainable. Total pilot casualties today were 4xKIA and 6xKIA.
The Allied tactics seem to be to use the RAF as cannon fodder so that the USAAF can get through after the LRCAP is worn out.
If that keeps up the atmosphere at the next Allied Pacific War Council should be a tense one.

The IJN Air Admirals need to get the George-2 off night fighter duty in SEAF as they are just getting chewed up in 1s and 2s by heavy bombers.
More Nicks will be sent to 4th Air Army to replace them as emergency night fighters.

LTC Jobo returns from hospital to 11th Sentai wearing his new rank.
1LT Daigo of 77th Sentai Det A achieves elite status in his new Frank reaching 90 experience. He’s on 14 kills.

Lots of IJN reinforcement units are coming but the low number of trainee pilots graduating from the off map basic schools is the limiting factor.
521 Ku K-2 arrives at Chiba – Judy dive bombers.

AAR is all caught up for the first time all week.
This is a preview of the next turn, with KB moving south.
If the Allies send any more ships towards PNG they should end up in range of A6M5c escorted Jills and Judys

The 12x CLs spotted at Townsville are the HMAS Australia task force.
Definitely an amphib task force there too.

“Only” the IJN CV task force is spotted with the CVL, CVE, 3x CA and 1x CL task forces all seemingly unspotted.
The CV task force should be enough to delay departure of the Allied amphib task force from Townsville.
The IJN Combined Fleet task forces will move one hex SW into the shallow water hex, reaction range set to zero.
The shallow water might give them a bit more protection vs Allied subs.

At Asansol, the brown/black movement arrows are hard to spot so the white arrows show the new Allied movement directions.
13x defending units still feels like too much combat power for the IJA to attack at Asansol, but if the Allies do withdraw multiple units it could become tempting to try a deliberate attack.
The troops spotted moving out of Ranchi might be boarding trains for Calcutta, so they could start to approach from the SW within a week.

Only the IJA 8th Div is moving SE and the plan is for 9th Div to follow once 8th departs the hex, just so there is only 1x Div moving in case the Allies try to attack.
12th Div just arrived at Asansol from the NW with 1st Tank Div and 4x Tank Regts. They will all dig in for now. All 5x Tank Regts might move SE soon to help threaten the hex just to the NE of Calcutta plus Jessore, leaving the 3x Tank Divs to cover the withdrawal of the Teens Divs shortly.

The 13th Army stack just SE of Asansol is faking a move to the West. 1st, 3rd, 4th and 2x 15th Div thirds are in the 13th Army stack.

1x Allied Division (assumed as it is showing as 16k troops +guns/vehs) has moved left out of Asansol.
Something else is still still moving SW so IGHQ will wait a couple of days to see what else leaves.
Spotted Allied moves are shown with white arrows.
The Allies might be moving to reinforce Jamshedpur, but the only hexes that might still be a target for the IJA are the red circles as Korea Army withdraws back to Dacca over coming weeks.

The planned general withdrawal from India is summarised by the red arrows.
Apart from the Raiding Regts and some IJAAF Coys the 50s Divs haven’t started withdrawing yet.

The Allies are starting to bomb the bases in the open from Delhi and Raipur but no ground troops have yet been spotted moving towards those bases.
The withdrawal isn’t far from starting as the IJAAF can’t provide fighter cover over all of those bases. 1 Sep 43 feels like a good date.

IJA bombers finally got 1x Heavy Industry hit which caused 7 damage but didn’t provide any strategic VPs.

The heavy radio transmissions were at 158,110 yesterday so only moved 2-3 hexes.
Perhaps the Allies are just probing forward to test patrol arcs or a large slow amphib task force is about to pop into Betty search range.

KB is still undetected in the shallow water hex and the Allied task forces are back at Townsville.

Some George-2s have been sent from Bougainville towards the Marshalls in case this is just a diversion in SWPAC and the main Allied operation will be in CENPAC.

Here comes most of the US Navy Pacific Fleet, probably with a USMC Div or two, or four!

HQ 6th Fleet will command this delay operation from the relative safety of Ponape.
Search arcs and submarine patrol zones are shown here.
More George-2s have moved forward to Roi-Namur, Ailinglaplap and Mili.
Wotje and Maloelap are on the front line so search aircraft that were based there have been withdrawn while mechanics rush to finish maintenance on a few more to let them fly out before the enemy bombardments start.
The plan is to keep the IJN strike aircraft in reserve for a few days then unleash them if/when the George force can wear down the Allied CV/CVL/CVE groups a little.
KB is moving here at cruise speed from near Milne Bay so that will take 4-5 days to get within strike range. They will try to sneak up from a flank, most likely the south such as from near Makin, depending on where the Allied assault beaches turn out to be.

I just ran the 30 Aug 43 turn and there has been a lot of action over the last few days. Good fun.
A large amphib task force was spotted moving towards Port Moresby so KB circled back there to attempt an ambush, leaving the Marshalls to land based air for now.

The Allies have landed at Port Moresby, Roi-Namur and Kwajalein almost simultaneously but haven't captured any of them, yet!

Port Moresby is secure but the Allies will have a foothold in the Marshalls by 1 Sep 43.
That puts them well ahead of the historical schedule.

A long report showing the details of KB strikes on the Allied SWPAC Amphibious Force.
With KB still here, the Allied CENPAC force will feel less threatened for about the next week, so they will likely get a foothold or two.
The rough plan is to then use KB in about a week in CENPAC to try and inflict some damage around the edges of wherever they land, or perhaps come back to the Coral Sea if the Allies try to reinforce their New Guinea Force without air cover again.

Amongst all the excitement in the Pacific, two brand new CVLs rejoin the Combined Fleet in a low key ceremony in Tokyo Bay.
They have 21x A6M5c and 9x Jills each with mostly 60s-70s experienced pilots.

RADM Yatsushiro, commander of CL Division 3, will take them under temporary command to escort them towards Truk as soon as his 2x CLs finish their AA focused refit tomorrow. The 6x DD Minekazes shown here are due an upgrade on 1 Sep 43, but it is not a critical upgrade so so it will be delayed so they can escort these new CVLs south to join the CVL task force as soon as possible.

CVL Nisshin is 29 days away while CVL Mizuho is 41 days away from being ready.

This is what the Allies have landed at Port Moresby.
If they don't send reinforcements then their New Guinea Force won't be able to take Port Moresby.

If KB moves to CENPAC then the reinforcements will probably come quickly, so IJN/IJA land based air will have to try and keep the reinforcements away.
The CVL/CVE task forces with some old CL covering forces might move to the shallow water hex with some ASW task forces to help defend against reinforcements.

Torpedoes are available for land based air thanks to HQs 6th and 7th Air Divs plus 4th Air Army.

Here's the worm on 1 Sep 43.
Still ticking along at about 3.4:1 ratio but the action will probably stay at high intensity for the next 4 months.
Japan doesn't need to outscore the Allies each month from here, so the mission should probably be to just avoid points loss disasters.

The Indian Expeditionary Army has the opportunity to score a few more points in ground battles at Jessore if the Allies don't completely abandon it, but then they will move into defensive positions and pass the initiative over to the Allies.
The 3rd Air Army will stay focused on CAP/LRCAP to avoid throwing points away by sweeping into P-47s and Spitfires.
It's probably time to stop the ineffective and supply wasting Sally/Helen bombing raids.

Between SEAF and 4th Fleet areas, defending Port Moresby for another few months is probably critical.
HQ 8th Area Army will look around for an extra Division to fly into Port Moresby in case the Allies land reinforcements.

With Kwajalein and Roi-Namur in Allied hands, the Allies will probably only need to take a few more bases to secure the Marshalls before looking further West towards Kusaie-Ponape-Truk.

Will the Allies try to capture Wake Island to secure a wider path for resupply through CENPAC?

I can't see the Allies bothering to capture the Gilberts now, so the choice is to leave those garrisons to fend for themselves or withdraw them.
HQ 24th and 26th Air Flotillas are being flown back to Kusaie and Ponape now, so once they are set the Mavis transports will start extracting JNAFUs then naval guards.

If KB can stay together as a threat in the Truk-Ponape-Kusaie area that presence should slow the advance of the Allies in CENPAC, but that will probably leave the door open for them to reinforce Port Moresby. The biggest threat to KB in that area is from submarines.
