Lots of lessons learnt the hard way today! Pilot losses: 62 KIA, 9 WIA, 57 MIA. About half of them IJN strike pilots that were in various stages of training which are the hardest to replace. Aircraft losses were: 56 Allied to 145 Japan. 2x British LSI(L) were reported sunk for 25 and 22 points each with two more hit with potential to have sunk. Even with two more LSI(L) sunk that would be about even on points for the day, which moves the VP ratio in the wrong direction.
