What you can do in 1941 : - evacuate to the rear or merge unready and depleted units - cut communications, reopen sealed encirclement especially with encircled units. A good use of the area between the border and Minsk can earn you one or two turn, which is huge in the summer of 1941 - use bypassed and doomed units to recapture cities, chokepoints, airfields, railways - cut off armored spearheads wherever possible. - sector by sector, select some units to conduct grinding attacks. Boost the inf divisions with whatever batalions you get, then retreat them immediately a few hexes. The idea is to grind down combat preparation, lower MPs etc of the german. Summer and autumn will be gruesome, but it is the only way to grind down the german offensive power for the winter. Remember that, as a rule of thumb, attack is significantly superior to defense. - with the remaining forces, keep the control of chokepoints, cities, river lines &c. The general idea is to deny liberty of movement to the opfor - when you retreat, don't burn all your mps (unless complete encirclement is imminent) - Fall back 3-4 hexes, usually no more. Let the german pay something for each hex. - send to the rear/SR badly mauled units and hqs What you should avoid in 1941: - retreat uniformly or too quickly - abandon prematurely key cities - counterattack everywhere
