Just got Factorio and played first 2 tutorials. Minecraft/FortressCraft from isometric perspective, where player character crash land on alien world, builds an industry from raw materials, walls and weapon platforms to defend against local wild life.

Game is already nearly a year old. It got renewed attention when developer was subjected to some political nonsense, to which he delivered an epic response:

Censored for this forum. # of positive Steam reviews spiked over 10 fold, and a number of YouTubers say they buy the game. As did I. Decisive victory for developer.

Slitherine & Matrix wargames have plenty of material for political nonsense: glorification of war, its participants, their politics, their flags (remember Confederation battle flag debacle few years ago?)... With this in mind, I urge Slitherine & Matrix personnel to take a close look at the political nonsense Factorio developer got dragged into, and take notes so you can come up with appropriate measures should you ever become a target of such nonsense. So far it looks like Factorio dev gained decisive victory where many others have suffered heavy losses and even decisive defeats.

I like that response even though it is censored. Maybe I should take a look at that game.

I've purchased Factorio 6 months or so ago. It is definetely good game, but needs some dedication and engineering interest.

Previous trailers of the game as years passes :
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=factorio+game+trailer

Someone on Youtube wrote 'they managed to remaster a remastered early access trailer.'

Matrix and Slitherine forum pretty much pro US, UK and the Commonwealth player based forum more narrow about nationality than in maybe Steam games audiance .So the topics mostly about 1 voice and side. But still liberal in some sense for non English speakers. What do you mean by politics? Cheers.

Not true. There are many divergent viewpoints which is how some threads get locked.

Not to mention that the English and the Commonwealth people will spell some words incorrectly . . .

Train Station 2

It's an Android/IOS game, but with Bluestacks you can play on the computer.

Oh, and getting my head handed to me in WiTE2.

I'm a train geek, and this one looks like a fun, relaxing game to play. Thanks for the tip!

Aurelian, I have to thank and blame you for your recommendation of Train Station 2. I've been playing it constantly since your post and loving it. Relatively light weight, but engaging and fun games like this are a great compliment to WitP AE or in your case, WitE 2.

I'm also starting a new PBEM game of WitP AE with an old friend, so I won't have to look for something to play for the next 10 years or so. We play fairly slowly, so 3-4 turns/week will provide us with many years of fun and excitement.

I've been inactive playing but sure have bought a lot of PC wargames in recent months.

Ideally, I'd like to be playing mainly squad up to platoon level tactical.

I'd like to be playing some old-school Squad Leader.

But all I've been accomplishing is the building of a lot of 72nd scale models.

And I'm suppoooosed to be making a train layout and getting some landscapes painted.

It seems all I do most days in watch too much YouTube :)

I play it constantly. Like you say, light weight, fun and engaging. There's another one called Seaport by the same company.

Recently I've been playing Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey. While Odyssey have much better RPG equipment elements&fighting system and the eastern mediterrian islands -I'm very familiar with- I like Origins better. Much better character story. Egypt as it is while I stay there 20 years ago.. I congrulate Ubisoft while not perfect in gameplay but historical research is at the top.

Been playing a lot of Field of Glory Empires alternating Dacia & Rome.
Some Solasta Crown of the Magister (D&D rpg), it's kind of light but I've had fun with it.

After a hiatus of a year and a half I am once again playing World of Tanks. I like it even less now than I did 1.5 years ago due to a recent patch, but it still has its good points (it is Free-to-Play, for one thing) and helps pass the time.

Finished up a CMBS scenario playing the Ukraine side, it was the first time I got to employ a Tunguska in a CM battle. What a beast! It chewed up three BTR-82a without any return fire.

I have an on-going small campaign in CC:PITF. It's morning of the last day s still some battles yet to come. I'll probably take on a CC:GTC campaign next.

I recently purchased FOG2 Medieval only loaded it to make sure it was installed correctly and also downloaded the WWII mod for Armored Brigade and the Normandy mod for CC:TBF haven't tried it out yet. I'm also getting the CMO itch again. So plenty of options for the next round of games.

What are CC:PITF, CC: GTC, and CC:TBF, please? I know what the Combat Mission games are, but have no idea what those acronyms stand for. I hate acronyms. :o)

Thank you in advance!

Oh - as for what I'm currently playing:

Lock 'n Load Tactical Digital (PC)
Solasta Crown of the Magister (PC)
Fantasy General 2 (PC)

Hostage Negotiator (solo board game on the table, until the cats knock crap around)

CC is for Close Combat, PITF is Panthers In The Fog, GTC is Gateway To Caen and TBF is The Bloody First. All good titles.

Been playing:

Steel Panthers MBT solo (a 1966 Vietnam USMC RCT, 3 infantry companies, a tank company (with M48A3 Patton's, M67A2 Zippo's and M48A3 Dozers), with regimental support).

JTS games PBEM (have 4 ongoing Napoleonic games, 3 ACW games and 2 PzC series).

One PBEM game of DG CWIE2.

That's pretty much it, enough to keep me busy.

I picked up Panzer Battles: Battles of Normandy during the John Tiller Software sale. I'm in the middle of the Utah beach scenario at the moment. The 8th infantry is spearheading the breakout for 4th ID and has breached the bunker line, still have about a kilometer to go and a couple of MG nests to knock out before linking with the 101st.

I got back to X-Piratez with newer version of it. Heavily modded OpenXcom (some files required from X-COM: UFO Defense) where aliens won & conquered Earth. Player challenges the world order with a band of über mutant pirate gals, who treat males as their slaves. NSFW in case you want to look it up.

Factorio has been out since 2016 in early access. I think I got it around 2017, already an excellent game. They've constantly improved it, and it has built up a following based on that.

If you think it suddenly got a tenfold following due to some comment about cancel culture you're reading way too much into it. Anyone who bought the game because of that is on the other end of idiocy on that whole thing, and politicking things just as much...I'd appreciate if both crowds kept to their own circle-jerks.

As for anyone thinking about getting Factorio - do so. Superb game.
