Still interested to know why Castor is getting these results with the dive (and Mundy as well) that I'm just not seeing in most AARs and in my games

Version of the game could have some effect. I have not yet switched to the Andy Mac improved AI files for the stock scenarios but I think changes to the air war model could have been part of that.

Hmm, we are running the latest patch version but I have not seen a difference to it since release a decade ago. Always been working the same, no idea.

Sure the "dive" issue is still valid in vanilla scens w/ latest patch, it might be playing some mod(s) increase the issue. I think a certain part of "missunderstandings" in this forum comes from the problem people playing different mods.

Eg. the nuclear missiles issue here, I just read an AAR were in 44 these boats were also used and did NOT achieve the results shown in this AAR. In fact they seemed quite weak (aka more realistic) however it was also against a bigger island (Saipan). Possibly the island size 1 here contributed also to it being "nuked"

I guess the other AAR was a standard scen while what Castor plays here is some kinda mod. Still he seems to blame "the game" He is not the only one - but it´s not an excuse imho.

Edit, so I was right here is what they play:

Interesting MM taking Mark Felton as source (even if he says "only for the footage, but for what is it worth then?). I was subbed to him for a while but then got bored and noted some inacuracies so unsubbed.

Here a vid about Jagtigers in the Ardennes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOAfIXy-Pgc

He says his sources are Wiki and "Pinterest"

But even Wiki has to say:
Einsatz 1944

Did Felton confuse Ardennes with Op. Nordwind

Well the English Wiki makes it sound a bit as if Nordwind was part of the Ardennes offensive (but this had ended before Nordwind started or not)

Once re-equipped, the battalion was again split up, with the 1st Company assigned to the 15th Army on the northern flank of the German Ardennes Offensive and the 3rd assigned to the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division Götz von Berlichingen to the south, where it would fight in Operation Nordwind in January. By February, the two companies had reunited at Landau in the Palatinate, and by the end of the month, they were reinforced to a strength of 41 Jagdtigers. In April, it fell back to Austria, from where it was to receive new vehicles from the Nibelungenwerk Factory, and finally reached its conclusion in the war under the command of Army Group Ostmark near Linz.[9]

It was the best collection of stock footage of these weapons in action that I could find after a cursory search.

As for what it's worth? Well, it's one thing to sit behind a keyboard and say "Oh, these weapons are completely overpowered!" and another thing to actually see what these weapons systems were like in action.

I think it made the point well.

Well the game itself proved you wrong already, see my post above. As in "stock" these rockets seem to work ok. I believe in the other AAR I read were 8-9 of the rocket boats supporting a landing at Saipan and they killed 3 squads + disabling a dozen or so more...seems fine

Edit, when reading comments under Feltons vids somehow one can lose hope for humanity...

Eg.:
"Woah - The profile looks a lot like an M1 Abrams. Curious how the stats compare in terms of weight and range. I know it's insanely slow compared to the M1 - and I'm pretty sure the M1 outclasses the range - but the profile is interesting. "

(M1s really? lol)

"Reversing away from JagdTiger thinking is safe with 1km distant ... Boom!!! And is gone. JagdTiger held the longest range kill in WW2 by able to destroy an allied tank 4000m (4Km) away, is 4000m , not 400m."

(yeah a dozen JT´s maybe got into action the others broke down or simply were abandoned for lack of fuel )

"Der Jagdtiger ist mir der Liebste Panzer der Wehrmacht, schade, dass es so wenige von ihm gab."

"My answer at the video:
"Yep a crap piece of **** that broke down 50% of the time it moved more than 50km and could not go over bridges due to weight... really?")

"I have seen many of your films Mark and can only say how amazing they are to watch. Your research is absolutely in depth. Even German pronunciation is excellent. Thank you for taking so much trouble in your archiving and presentation."

(Such in depth research...loL)

"Is this any good in war thunder 6.7 not 7 or 8 with cold war tanks"

"Not your normal opening music but a great video as always. I watch a lot of videos on YT and I find a few from posters that I feel is not up to their normal good work. I have watched a TON of your videos and have not yet find one that was not up to your great work. Thank you and as always please keep up the great work."

(3 x great in 3 sentences is not enough imho why not put 5 x great ?)

"One of the Best parts of my day is when one of Mark's videos pops up on my YT feed"

(Imagine how bad his life must be )

(I hope this does not insult the Mark Felton fan MM?)

The differences between Saipan and Marcus (and the difference in units defending) and the subsequent difference in results are important to note.

I noted the difference above already and I now I am taking Castors stance and avoid your posts, cause you seem not to read at all or probably on purpose "missinterpret" what others say, to fit to your narrative

In English it is called "strawman" arguments or logical fallacies I guess?

https://effectiviology.com/straw-man-arguments-recognize-counter-use/

Seems so - from above link:
Examples of strawman arguments
The following is a typical example of a strawman argument:

Teaching assistant: the homework assignment was much harder than we thought, so I think we should give a few extra points to students who completed it.

Professor: that’s a terrible idea. If we give everyone a perfect score for no reason, students won’t bother working hard in the future.

In this example, the professor uses a strawman argument, by misrepresenting their assistant’s stance in three ways:

The professor argues against giving everyone a bonus, while the teaching assistant suggested giving it only to students who completed the assignment.
The professor argues against giving students a perfect score, while their assistant suggested giving students only a few extra points.
The professor argues against giving students a bonus for no reason, while their assistant suggested giving them the bonus because the assignment was harder than expected.
In doing all of this, the professor makes it much easier for themself to attack their assistant’s stance.

Keep in mind that it doesn’t matter whether the overall claims of the professor who is using the strawman are true or not (i.e. that if everyone got a perfect score for no reason, then students won’t work hard in the future). This is because the professor’s argument is a fallacious misrepresentation of their opponent’s stance, meaning that it’s entirely irrelevant to the discussion in the first place.

Another example of a strawman is the following:

Alex: I think that a bigger portion of our company’s budget should go to customer support, because we’re currently struggling in that area.

Bob: if we spend all of our money on customer support like you’re suggesting, we’ll go bankrupt in a year.

In this example, Bob is using a strawman, when he distorts Alex’s original stance in order to make it easier to attack. Specifically, while Alex proposes that the company should spend a bigger portion of their budget on customer support, Bob attacks the idea that the company should spend all of their budget on customer support, which is a different, much more extreme stance (i.e. a strawman).

Btw. re. MMs Mark Feltons video here is what he said:

"Worth watching for some of the footage here, before making judgements on what should be "realistic"."

Note he uses the "worth watching" in relation with what "should be realistic" meaning he did NOT use the Felton vid jsut for the footage as he claims but for realism.

Then when others "expose" Felton he back tracks and says it was just for the film footage - which is also not particular impressive even a bunch of the bigger china cracker fireworks can make a lot of smoke and noise

It would only have some worth for the topic if it was shown what the rocket fire actually does to a target(!) in this case men in forts6 (what ever is represented in reality by the "6"). Even not some practise targets are to be seen in the vid showered by these rockets.

Could you please illustrate where this is the case?

As for adopting the same stance as castor, please feel free. Birds of a feather stick together and there seems to be a growing flock of ostriches on the forums. You'll forgive me if I don't yet appreciate the magnitude of my loss...

Read post #1641.

I included the specific reference to the footage (as opposed to say, the narrative, or the views presented) because that was the relevant primary source material in the video.

For the sake of transparency, I was aware of Felton's detractors before posting the video (having read the same Reddit thread that Evoken did) which was part of my reasoning for directing people to focus on the footage specifically.

I make no judgement myself on Felton. I've not engaged enough with his material to have an informed opinion (and I'd likely take his published works as a benchmark than YouTube shorts) but I'm sure you'd understand if I'd like something with a little more academic credentials than a random individual on Reddit.

As for realism, what aspect of the footage is unrealistic?

quote:

Again, read post #1641.

As for the impressiveness of so called "china cracker fireworks", the USN seemed to take a different view.

JUST FOR INFO/FUN, not for "realism" in game.

Vid with BM21 launchers, looks impressive. One certainly would NOT be on the target area... those system are mobile which makes sense look the large dust/smoke cloud easy target for counter battery:

the war went on but the AAR didn't because the point when the Felton video was posted in the AAR it became so absurd to me that I thought if green buttoning someone doesn't even help to get rid of this nonsense why even having the AAR going on just to feed a troll...

oh well, here we go, until the next absurd youtube video to support someone's point about the Earth being flat...

with the subs being the only asset available to hurt the enemy fleet it's I-5 that engages a slow CVE but all torps miss the escort carrier... damn lucky bugger... in return our sub suffers as she is attacked by two DEs which again prove way deadlier than the DDs... after being hit by depth charges the sub has to surface and is sunk...

the air losses list confirms what isn't needed to be confirmed, CV Bunker Hill was sunk by sub attacks...

means the trip towards the Marianas has cost the USN an Essex class CV and a total of 300 carrier based aircraft when the operation was aborted and the enemy Armada heading towards Hawaii... it has cost us a dozen fighters and four subs...

I'd immediately take such a result any time but losing three subs today for a CVL and a CVE being missed angers me a little but the whole operation again convinces me that keeping the subs back and mass use them in one "decisive" battle after another is the right strategy (in the game)... losing three subs for one succesful attack on an escorted freighter sure isn't worth it...

Yeah, the allied end-war ASW bonus (the under-the-hood one) is really deadly to the IJ subs. I think you've come up with as good a way to use them as any .... they are going to die, if you can pick off some stragglers, that's pretty good in my book.

the subs have accounted for at least 6-8 CV/CVL/CVE in this campaign. Without their attacks these carriers would not have been sunk

Mundy does a night bombing low level tactical attack on Darwin's level 8 airfield... quite surprising to me because I know he is thinking the same about tactical night attacks in the game as I do... the result? The usual nuke from these attacks of course as the B-29 and their huge payload is enough to totally knock out the airbase... a level 8 airbase in one go, destroying 50% of the aircraft there and damaging 30% of the rest... got five AA units there, they do nothing... some B-29 hit balloons but the end result of this attack is devastating and he only loses 4 bombers attacking at over 20 hexes range...

like I've said, we both got the same oppinion on night bombing in the game so I wonder if this is the start of a tactical night bombing campaign which I don't hope because if it is I will retaliate it with some fency other stuff one can do at night in the game...

after the USN retreating from the Marianas it has become the usual drole de guerre all over the map with literally nothing happening for weeks, hence only sporadic updates... this turn was like a highlight as an enemy convoy got to close to Bombay and was immediately punished for it...

No more comments from me, in fact I am going to quit reading this AAR since it appears that you block people who want to help you.

You really think I'd care? Go and keep posting your Nazi stuff that seems to be accepted on the main forum.

Thanks for the updates, and congratulations on another confirmed carrier kill. It's not unreasonable to assume Mundy's B-29 night raid has its roots somewhere in the frustration he must be feeling with his progress. Regardless, goodwill between opponents is essential, and I hope the situation is resolved to mutual satisfaction.

More emphatically, I sincerely hope that the next time a reader feels the need to discuss a topic in detail or engage at length with another poster, they will exercise the common courtesy of doing so in a different thread.

And I come back to this form to find an endless argument that has torpedoed any sympathy I've ever had with Mind_messing.

And I've unlocked the ability to make and use memes in this forum! MUH AHA HAAHA HA!!!

I won't even question the air combat that happened at the start of 1945 at the Marianas... Speaking of 1945 you should change this AAR title to AAR 1945 instead of AAR 1944.

Now to mention the earlier talk about late PBEM games that went to 1946... or how they are so rare.
I've so far seen only 3 of them. Although 2 of them were just a summery of what happened during the war after the (the same, believe or not) player stopped posting monthly updates on the AARs.

You get to see the aftermath of what 4.4 years of warfare and destruction in the Pacific grand campaign really looks like.

I can provide a link to them if you guys want to.

Have changed it to 45 several times already but people keep quoting or replying to 44 posts so it reverts back

No combat report but the operational report as I wanna show you the sub spottings as I have done earlier... now the difference in the last days/weeks is the fact that the USN gotta be running low on subs and their numbers have drastically decreased within our shipping lanes that are covered by air ASW/nav search... and that means that our op losses of bombers/float planes on nav search have also gone drastically down, now around 1-2 a day from 7-10 a day...

over 170 enemy subs have been reported sunk so were are most likely somewhere around 150 actually sunk and this has cost us at least 3,000 aircraft lost to ops... so in total it's a 1:2 loss in victory points but it also meant that the enemy subs were mostly ineffective as we haven't lost a single major warship to subs, their best hits were a torp on a CVL twice...
