On 24 August 1943 the American juggernaut delivered a host of unwanted interlopers to Tinian Island. Today, less than 2 months later, the last of them have been eliminated. What started as close run thing has turned into a satisfying Japanese victory. Lots of luck involved to achieve this outcome plus a battered Japanese fleet but in the end plenty of land based reinforcements were safely landed to deal with the infestation. At huge cost as well to the American effort I do hope.

Well this was not a turn for great results. I knew the American juggernaut was hovering. Fearful of having a fleet of damaged ships caught in harbour at Saipan I ordered them to sea in the hope of saving them with air cover. Not a good result and if I had of left them alone they would have weathered the storm. Plenty of downed American strike planes so that at least is consolation.
