Does the okha not become available until kamikazes are triggered or are they supposed to be available in 1/45? I have one squadron of Bettys that can use them but they're greyed out.

Found this from Kull: For those looking to start a new campaign, it's worth noting that the improved Scenario 1 released in 2016 (Scen 100) includes a fix for this problem. Interestingly, the MXY7 Ohka 11 (Device 197) becomes available in October 1944 and the build rate is 90. The downside is that production now has a March 1945 end date. Post #10

From jdsrae: In the Downfall scenario, if you go to the Industry/Troops/Resource Pool screen it shows MXY7 Ohka 11 as a Missile device available from 1/45 with a build rate of 36/month.
This device doesn’t appear in the Scenario 1 list.
I just checked the database file in the editor: the toggle for “can build” says no, and the build rate = 0.
I couldn’t edit the scenario 1 database as it is protected so saved it in a new slot #, changed Ohka from “can build - no” to yes and entered build rate of 36.
Restart a game with the revised scenario # and they are there. Not sure how you can get them activated mid-game though... Post #6

Thanks for that. I won't bother trying. I've heard they aren't very effective. I'll use the squadron as trainers.

Quite the opposite, they're very potent weapons. Just a challenge to deliver it to the target

Problem is that they're only used by a Betty and Frances airframe. Advantage is that they completely avoid flak fire, which in the late game means a fair bit.

I used them as dedicated night bombers, but that didn't really work. They'd work better as aircraft woven in to regular strike packages.

But the aircraft info screen doesn't list any alternative ordinance, even for extended range. Are you sure they actually bomb anything?

I think he is saying mix the Betty/Okha squadron in with regular NavB strikes in hopes some of the Okhas will be dropped while the regular Bettys take most of the CAP opposition.

Yes, I tested them a while back. They do bomb things, and with pretty decent results too. Damage profile was roughly similar to the IJ 800kg AP bomb - about five hits or so to give a battleship a really bad day.

IIRC there was some unique flavour text too from the combat replay and combat reports that you won't see otherwise.

From his reference to alternative ordnance I thought Geoff was asking if the Okha capable Betty squadrons could load regular bombs?
