Sicilian towns/ports are capped at 5 supply - should this be 10/8 in line with mainland Italy?

I don't know, was Sicily as industrially developed at this time to warrant higher supply and therefore income?

We do have the area at 10/8 in our WWII games but the situation is a bit different, i.e. Sicily is likely to be invaded, whereas an invasion in WWI is extremely unlikely.

Possibly not, but if we leave aside the historical context and just apply the game mechanics, shouldn't it be 10/8 due to the rail connection with the capital? Wasn't sure if it was deliberate (i.e. for such a reason as that) or a bug.

I suppose I'm hesitant to agree with it on the basis of history as that could be applied to lots of areas of the map where it isn't currently - like Wales!

Isnt the link broken by the straits between Sicily and the mainland? I.e. there is no actual connection due to Sicily being an island?

That is correct, the railway doesn't cross the strait.

But it's possible to operate troops to Sicily from the mainland?

Yes, from memory and for game play purposes, it made sense to allow players to operate to and from Sicily along a rail line that crosses over a land + sea hex (or anywhere else that had a similar connection with rail), but to not consider it 'connected' when it came to resource calculations.

The way around that for our WWII game was to I believe have Palermo as a Primary supply source.
