A couple of questions about how to speed recovery of disabled squads when the enemy is in the hex:

I am defending Port Moresby against the Japanese AI, and disabled squads are recovering extremely slowly, even though there is plenty of support (and a corps HQ) in the hex.

1) Will units recover faster in Reserve mode, as compared to Combat with Defend or Bombard orders?
1a) If so, does it matter whether Pursuit is turned on or off?

2) When I bombard the Japanese units in the hex with separate artillery units, all of the LCUs in the hex are listed as "attacking". Will bombarding with some units interfere with recuperation of other units in the hex that only have Defend orders?

Thanks for any info!

This 2017 thread

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4376273&mpage=1&key=fatigue&#4381076

has several posts from me, plus hyperlinks back to the devs, which go into detail regarding the recovery of fatigue, morale and disabled devices.  All three factors are all linked together.

Thanks Alfred - I read through the thread and did not see any mention of op mode other than Rest, nor of particular orders.

So based only on that thread, I would conclude that for purposes of squad repair, it makes no difference whether a unit is in Combat or Reserve mode, and it makes no difference whether a unit is participating in a bombardment attack - unless those activities themselves caused additional squads to become disabled.

Reserve mode takes the unit off the forwardmost firing line and holds them a bit further back so they can be thrown into the fray if needed. That lets the fatigue recovery go a little faster. And with fatigue recovery and replacements comes morale recovery. It doesn't matter if the Reserve mode is Pursuit or No Pursuit - the unit will not join the fray unless needed so that is the additional break the troops can use for recovery.
