April 05/06, 1942

Highlights: US Surface Fleet succesfully avoids KB

Bases lost:
Japanese forces CAPTURE Misool !!!
Saidor is occupied by the Japanese

Bases liberated:
-

Ships lost:
xAK Coquina sinks, having been chased-down by a PB between Pagan and Iwo Jima. The lone xAK was trying to unload supplies over the beaches east of Manila in true blockade runner style.

Ships sunk:
-

CBI:
Chittagong expands airfield to size 2
PG Erebus arrives at Cape Town - now what can I do with two 15in guns moving at 12kn max?

Japanese SRA:
Still no deliberate attacks at Manila, Palembang, Bandoeng, just th eusual bombings

Western Australia:
-

Northern Australia:
-

SWPac:
Cooktown expands airfield to size 2
SS Argonaut lays minefield near Rabaul ( 107 , 126) and sets course for Sydney

SoPac:
-

CentPac:
-

NoPac:
-

Homefront / Rear areas:
More and more ships entering various ports across the map for the April upgrades. The number of warships available for operations will be severely limited for the next 2 - 3 weeks.

Intel:
Previous report of sinking of SS I-154 incorrect. Intelligence reports ship is still in service

Let's take a headcount of the large unrestricted IJA units:

Manila: 16 ID, 21 ID, 38 ID, 48 ID
Palembang: 5 ID, 56 ID
Badoeng: 2 ID, /A Det Guards ID
Burma: 55 ID
Port Moresby: 65 IB, 56 Rgt of 18 ID (+ /A and /B units of 14 ID bought-out)
Northern Oz: I/124 Rgt and II/124 Rgt
Carnarvon: III/124 Rgt

Unknown locations:
Guards ID(-) - last seen at Singers
18 ID(-) - last seen at Medan
4 ID - last seen at Palembang
33 ID - last seen at Palembang
30 ID/41Rgt - last seen at Pameskan
21st MBde - last seen on Java

Judging from this and the BB bombardments at Manila, Ed probably wants to finish Manila first and then throw everything at Palembang, in order to minimise loses and destruction. The oil continues to accumulate at Palembang while still under Allied control, if he launches an overwhelming all-out attack he may capture the oil installations and the accumulated oil stocks relatively intact, which would make the late capture . It is thus possible that a large part of the unaccounted units are miving to Luzon.
I expect that the /C element of the 14th Div will be moved to PM soon, which might be enough to capture that location.

Glad to see you trying to stop the IJA tanks at PM by flying in A/T guns. Not many players think of flying in light AA and A/T guns with their transports and patrol aircraft. They can make a world of difference if supply is adequate.

Ships sunk:
DMS W-13 is reported to have been sunk near Port Moresby on Apr 08, 1942

It has been a calm turn all across the map - except off Port Moresby. Two Allied TFs totaling 9 CLs and 7 DDs tried to intercept a Japanese convoy heading to PM which had been spotted by air search, presumably carrying the last element of the IJA 14th Division. The TFs encountered everything in the Japanese arsenal except midget subs - subs, SAGs, mines, LBA, carrier-based air, even bombing by ship-based float planes. After two days, only CL Dauntless and DD Van Nes remain barely afloat. All this for almost nothing - one DMS and one AMC reported sunk (the AMC turned out to be sync bug). Details see action report attached.

April 11/12, 1942

Highlights: Deliberate attacks at Palembang held

Bases lost:
Molu is occupied by the Japanese

Bases liberated:
Coen is occupied by the Allies

Ships lost:
-

Ships sunk:
PB Nagata Maru sunk by CL Ceres at Norfolk Island on Apr 11, 1942
SSX Ha-6 is reported to have been sunk near Palmyra on Jan 10, 1942 - didn't

CBI:
More Chinese troops in the process of being airlifted to India to flesh-out:
7 x DC-2 transporting NCAC from Tsuyung
7 x C-47 Skytrain transporting 7th New Chinese Corps from Paoshan

Japanese SRA:
First ground attacks at Palembang pitched three IJA divisions with tank support against the outnumbered and outgunned Dutch and Indian garrison - which gave better than it received but forts are down to level 1. The usual bombing attacks and bombardments elsewhere.

Western Australia:
A recon-in-force by two Australian Regiments is preparing to retake Carnarvon

Northern Australia:
Bombing raids continue to harras the retreat from Darwin to Tennant Creek.

SWPac:
While about 20 fleet subs are hauling supplies from Townsville, the few available air transport assets try to bolster the ground defenses at PM:
4 x Catalina I transporting 4th Australian Division to Port Moresby
1 x S.23 Empire transporting 4th Australian Division to Port Moresby
3 x C-47 Skytrain transporting 42nd Construction Regiment to Port Moresby
1 x C-33 transporting 42nd Construction Regiment to Port Moresby
And forts go up again - Port Moresby expands fortifications to size 2
With airfields bulding-up at Townsville, Cairns and Cooktown, some airpower is moving-in - but lack of long-range fighter escorts will limit the usefulness.
SS Tambor detected by Japanese Carrier Aircraft at 106,128 near Rabaul - so KB is returning to base?

SoPac:
Build-up continues, all elements of the 2nd Marine Division have upgraded to 1942 infantry squads and then recombined at Suva, where AA, CD, Eng and AV support have or are arriving each turn in small batches as well. Hope I don't build bases for the Japanese:
Suva expands airfield to size 4
Tahiti expands port to size 4
A small bombardment force composed of CL Ceres and DD Vendetta dispatch a lone PB at Norfolk Is.

CentPac:
Recon flights show substantial garrison at Canton Is. with level-2 airfield and some air assets, probably Jakes or Mavis. Allied convoys will continue to give it a wide berth.

NoPac:
Slow build-up of Adak continues. It will eventually become an advance base for subs operating in HI waters.

Homefront / Rear areas:
More and more ships entering Allied ports for the April upgrades, the first few upgraded subs emerge from the yards and are sent-out hunting again.

Highlights: Japanese land more reinforcements at PM

Bases lost:
Japanese forces CAPTURE Bacolod !!!
Bathurst Island is occupied by the Japanese

Bases liberated:
-

Ships lost:
Loss of PT-59 on Apr 17, 1942 is admitted
Loss of PT-60 on Apr 17, 1942 is admitted
Loss of PT-25 on Apr 18, 1942 is admitted
Loss of PT-33 on Apr 18, 1942 is admitted
Loss of PT-45 on Apr 18, 1942 is admitted
Loss of PT-47 on Apr 18, 1942 is admitted
Loss of PT-48 on Apr 18, 1942 is admitted
> all at PM

Ships sunk:
SS I-18 is reported to have been sunk by SS Truant near Phuket on Apr 18, 1942

CBI:
-

Japanese SRA:
Just the usual bombings and bombardments.Wait, HMS Truant has won a rare sub-vs-sub encounter against I-18, hitting the I-boat with two torpedoes. Sinking confirmed by intel - but I-18 had been reported sunk once before already, so maybe no cigar?

Western Australia:
-

Northern Australia:
Just the usual bombings.

SWPac:
PTs clashed with covering forces while Amphibious TF 105 is unloading at Port Moresby - new arrivals identified as 55th and 114th Inf Rgt, apparently more elements of the IJA 18th Division are joining the fray. That pits 2.5 IJA divisions against two way understrength Australian divisions plus some small fry, in total maybe the equvalent of 1.5 divisions. Supplies at PM are down to 36k and bombing and bombardment missions keep the diggers from digging fortifications. Not looking good.

The Japanese convoy managed to sneak-in unmolested by Allied air "massing" in Queensland:
3 x B-25C Mitchell unable to locate target due to range or weather
13 x SBD-3 Dauntless unable to locate target due to range or weather
11 x A-24 Banshee unable to locate target due to range or weather
The bombers then switched to secondary mission, ground bombing around Coen - and found LRCAP, losing two. LRCAP must be coming from Horn Island - or KB.

TF 346 sighted by B5N2 Kate at 97,130 near Port Moresby - indicating that KB must be lurking nearby, apparently providing LRCAP over PM:
Catalina I transport flying to Port Moresby intercepted
Catalina I transport flying to Port Moresby intercepted

SoPac:
Pilot killed in landing accident of B-17E Fortress from 5th BG/23rd BS - the unit is flying search missions from Tahiti, the pilot must have confused naval search with navel search and got distracted by the target-rich environment on the beaches of Tahiti...
That explains why the presence of sub-based float-planes is being reported without ever picking up any trace of the mother subs:
TF 127 snooped by Japanese Float Plane at 173,178 near Tahiti
TF 199 detects Japanese Recon at 173,178 near Tahiti

NoPac:
-

Homefront / Rear areas:
-

Intel:
Previous report of sinking of SS I-18 incorrect. Ship sighted and engaged at 48, 68 - this time for good I hope!

Highlights: Palembang falls, PM holds two shock attacks

Bases lost:
Japanese forces CAPTURE Palembang !!!

Bases liberated:
-

Ships lost:
-

Ships sunk:
-

CBI:
Availalbe limites air transport assets continue to fly supplies to Paoshan and lift-out Chinese NCAC troops to the fleshpots of India - now it is the turn of the 8th New Chinese Corps

Japanese SRA:
After weeks of bombings and several ground attacks, Japanese forces finally take Palembang. 21 Allied units have been destroyed, incl. the refugees from Malaya, the 9th and 11th Indian Divisions. This frees at least 3 IJA divisions for other operations - probably Manila, PM and Bandoeng. I don't think Ed will land on Ceylon, India, Australia or elsewhere before having made more divisions available.

Western Australia:
-

Northern Australia:
Remnants of the Broome and Derby base forces which have not been able to air-evac to Geralton have marched to the doorsteps of Port Hedland to find it occupied by the enemy - and an enemy unit is chasing them down.

SWPac:
Japanese cruisers bombard Port Moresby, several Allied sub tried to interfere without success.
PM is also bombed repeatedly by Nells and Betties from Rabaul and Kates from a carrier force operating in the Coral Sea.
Despite this, the PM garrison was able to defeat two shock attacks - but suffered heavily and may not be able to withstand another attack.

SoPac:
Allied DDs bombard Norfolk Island, Japanese sub tried to interfere without success.
Damn I-Boats keep sniffing out my shipping routes - AO Guadalupe followed by Japanese Float Plane at 179,180 near Anaa

I love it when KB/MKB send their precious pilots to ineffectively bomb a land target that is well dug-in. Good chance that at least two of those damaged Kates didn't make it back.

You made me look! Never heard of that island before so I had to check the map to see it is near Tahiti. But never fear - you have 22 more hex rows before you get to the southern map edge!

Where is Dobadura? It isn't on the base list in my game so I guess you are playing extended map?

Yes, DBB-C is using the extended map. Dobadura is a dot base between Port Moresby and Buna. IRL it became an important Allied airbase

April 29/30, 1942

Highlights: SS Salmon bags a tanker, CAP trap in Burma bags some fighters

Bases lost:
Japanese forces CAPTURE Togian-eilanden !!!
Fenton is occupied by the Japanese

Bases liberated:
-

Ships lost:
Loss of HDML 1102 on Apr 29, 1942 is admitted

Ships sunk:
TK San Luis Maru is reported to have been sunk near Rabaul on Apr 29, 1942
SSX Ha-7 is reported to have been sunk near Brisbane on Feb 08, 1942 - this attack went unnoticed

CBI:
In Burma, British bombers profit from bright moonlight and switch to night attacks, bombing Myitkyina, Akyab, Mandalay, Lashio and Magwe and obtain a few airbase and runway hits. The Flying Tigers sweep last turn's day bombing target - finding as expected some enemy LRCAP. 3 Oscars and 3 Zeros downed for no Tigers lost.
Betties raiding Diamond Harbor evade Fulmars on CAP to torpedo and sink an HDML.

Japanese SRA / Home Islands:
Bandoeng and Manila bombed and bombarded as usual.
The IJA seems to have invested assets in aerial ASW warfare - in the approaches to Sasebo, SS Tuna got a lot of quick-dive practice:
Ki-21-Ic Sally attacking SS Tuna at 101,59
Ki-21-Ic Sally attacking SS Tuna at 101,59
Ki-21-Ic Sally attacking SS Tuna at 101,59

Western Australia:
An Australian B-25 squadron manned by Dutch pilots starts recon flights over Carnarvon. It appears to be weakly held.

Northern Australia:
Supplies are just not flowing into Tennant Creek via road from Alice Springs. Therefore I have pulled a number of Wirraway-equipped air units to Alice Springs for transport duty and some xp gain. Tennant Creek needs to be build-up to increase the supply cap before we can think about retaking Northern Australia.

SWPac:
Naval bombarded again, but no ground attack.

SoPac:
Hudson III (LR) sighting report: 10 Japanese ships at 112,173 near Norfolk Island, Speed unknown, Moving West > KB avoiding all subs so far.
Most of the US Fleet units have finished their April upgrades, but are scattered between Sydney, Melbourne, PH and the West Coast. They will concentrate in the South Pacific in the coming weeks.

Highlights: Port Moresby falls

Bases lost:
Japanese forces CAPTURE Katherine !!!
Japanese forces CAPTURE Port Moresby !!!
Tanahdjampea is occupied by the Japanese
Siaoe is occupied by the Japanese

Bases liberated:
-

Ships lost:
Loss of APD Ward on May 03, 1942 is admitted - sunk by SAG at PM
Loss of APD Stringham on May 03, 1942 is admitted - sunk by SAG at PM
Loss of xAK Barossa on May 03, 1942 is admitted - sunk by I-5 near Perth

Ships sunk:
-

CBI:
Lilies try to attack a supply convoy at Cox's Bazar, leaky CAP from Chittagong splashed 3.
Wellingtons on night attack obtained 4 oil hits at Magwe despite Oscars on CAP.

Japanese SRA:
The usual bombings and bombardments of Manila and Bandoeng. Casualties at Manila start to rise due to lack of supplies.

Western Australia:
-

Northern Australia:
19th Australian Battalion surrendered at Katherine to vastly superior enemy forces.

SWPac:
Main action centered on PM. Two APDs loaded with supplies encountered a Japanese bombardment force who had sneaked-in undetected and both APDs got sunk. The Japanese ships bombarding Port Moresby made a wide detour to get back to Rabaul - presumably to avoid subs - and came into range of dive-bombers at Cooktown, but weather protected them, only one squadron out of three attacked and scored one hit on Chokai. The other squadrons reported "unable to locate target due to range or weather". Netties ground-bombed PM as well. Despite all this, the PM garrison survived one shock attack, but a second shock attack forced it to yield the base and retreat towards the "rescue base" the Commandos had seized a few days before:

4th Australian Division RETREATING towards Dobadura
8th Australian Division RETREATING towards Dobadura
641st Towed Tank Destroyer Battalion RETREATING towards Dobadura
15th RAN Base Force RETREATING towards Dobadura
13th Field Regiment RETREATING towards Dobadura
4th Australian Lt AA Regiment SURRENDERS !!!
49th Australian Battalion RETREATING towards Dobadura

THe units did not retreated directly east to Dobadura, but followed the trail leading SE out of PM. They are thus in a coastal hex, which will allow evacuation by seaplanes and fast transport missions - provided the Japanese do not pursue.

SoPac:
Hudson III (LR) sighting report: 10 Japanese ships at 115,175 near Norfolk Island , Speed 12 , Moving East > KB has turned around, retracing its path - thus avoiding the subs positioned in the projected path if it had continued west...

May 11/12, 1942

Highlights: IJN active in IO

Bases lost:
Japanese forces recapture Dobadura
Kangean is occupied by the Japanese

Bases liberated:
-

Ships lost:
AM Toowoomba on ASW patrol of Perth is sunk by RO-34
Loss of xAKL Jalatarang on May 12, 1942 is admitted, sunk by SAG at Cox's Bazar

Ships sunk:
-

CBI:
Kohima expands fortifications to size 3.
A small IJN SAG (1 CL + 4 DD) raided Cox's Bazar, sinking a small xAK. Good - means dispersal for Combined Fleet.

Japanese SRA:
Usual bombings and bombardments. US Subs deployed around the Home Islands and Formosa report heavy aerial ASW activities. SS Silversides torpedoed xAK Sinsyu Maru off Wenchow, probably sinking it. Dutch and British subs patrolling between Rangoon and Singers report no contacts.

Western Australia:
Japanese Ships (2 CA + 1 Cl + 6DD) bombarding Australian troops at Carnarvon - great, more dispersal of Combined Fleet. Dutch sub positioned between Carnarvon and Port Hedland didn't even sight the enemy. I will send the remaining British cruisers to Perth to provide support.
Rufe Floatplanes ambushed the B-25s bombing Carnarvon , but lost one of their own. Rufes probably based at Exmouth.
Swordfish I sighting report: Japanese AMC at 23,143 "near" Geraldton , Speed 13 , Moving East
Swordfish I sighting report: Japanese AMC at 15,150 "near" Busselton , Speed 13 , Moving Northeast
6 x Swordfish I unable to locate target due to range or weather
> Hermes has found what appears to be the two raiders now operating seperately, but no luck with airstrikes. CL Adelaide and CA Dorsetshire are in the vicinity, escorting convoys. They will detach to join the hunt, taking the risk of leaving their charges unprotected.

Northern Australia:
Frantic digging at Tennant Creek to raise the supply cap while transport planes no longer needed for Port Moresby joined the Wirraways at Alice Springs hauling supplies. The Northern Territory garrison force has one hex to go to finish the retreat. Cloncurry and Normanton have been "secured" by US tank battalions.

SWPac:
ex-PM garrison under a hail of bombs, pursuing Japanese ground forces have caught up - expecting a ground attack next turn which may well anihilate what's left of two Australian divisions plus support.
32nd Division is one day short of arriving at Melbourne, joining the Americal Division and one third of the 27th Division. Cannot accumulate enough PPs to buy-out the rest of the 27th Div, still have many bad leaders to change and smaller units to buy-out.

SoPac:
Recon identifies two units at Norfolk Island, so the Japanese have reinforced the island under the cover of KB. With KB apparently gone, will resume the training cruises / bombardment excercises.

CentPac:
SS Tarpon hits Type 93 Mine at Canton Island - with 22(11) float damage she should survive. Some US cruisers covered by Hornet are at Christmas Is., preparing a bombardment mission.

NoPac:
The 16th Canadian Bde has assembled on Adak. Forts have reached level 4, will start to expand the port and airfield to turn the location into a submarine base within easy reach of the Home Islands.

Homefront / Rear areas:
Old News finally released to the public - Admiral Nimitz has replaced Admiral Kimmel at the head of the POA Command and Pacific Fleet a few weeks ago.

Intel:
1/33rd Division is loaded on xAP Kobe Maru moving to Rangoon > just reinforcing Burma or staging for India adventures?
22nd Ind Engineer Regiment is located at Wake Island(136,98), 9th Ind Engineer Regiment is located at Tabiteuea(137,134) > looks like the CentPac is being turned into a fortress.

Highlights: First Allied counter-offensive starts

Bases lost:
Truscott is occupied by the Japanese

Bases liberated:
-

Ships lost:
-

Ships sunk:
-

CBI:
Hurricanes based at Chittagong sweep Akyab, swapping 1 Hurri for 3 Oscars.
70+ bombers give the Akyab airfield a good working-over.
Ledo expands airfield to size 5.

Japanese SRA / Home Islands:
The usual bombings and bombardments at Bandoeng and Manila.
Ki-21-Ic Sally attacking an Allied PT at 103,61 - that is off the southern coast of Kyushu. Not quite in range of my PTs yet, but I'm working on it.

Western Australia:
B-25 again bomb enemy ground troops at Carnarvon. First ground DA by the Australian infantry - the tanks have been kept in reserve to and did not participate yet - only achieved 1:2, but the Japanese suffer heavier losses.

Northern Australia:
-

SWPac:
The ex-PM garrison is bombed and shock-attacked twice by the pursueing Japanese - but manages to survive and even to give better than it received - those diggers are tough fighters.
Cooktown expands airfield to size 4.

SoPac:
The Allied Combined Carrier Fleet conducts a ground bombing raid against Norfolk Island - more for training than for any effect.

CentPac:
Submarine Cachalot sniffing around the CentPac Islands discovers multiple enemy TFs at Nauru, but pays a price for its curiosity - with 74 float damage it will try to reach the nearest port - Suva.

NoPac:

Highlights: First Allied counteroffensive retakes Carnarvon

Bases lost:
-

Bases liberated:
Carnarvon

Ships lost:
Contact lost with SS Pollack, last radio message received from the vicinity of Ketoi-jima (Kuriles) reported heavy damage after air attack. Boat presumed lost.

Ships sunk:
-

CBI:
Oscars sweep Chittagong seeking revenge but find no opposition.

Japanese SRA:
Manila and Bandoeng as usual.

Western Australia:
Two B-25s lost to Rufes over Carnarvon while ground-bombing. Another DA including the tanks goes in and takes back the base, pushing the enemy one hex up the coast. The tanks will try to encircle the enemy by cutting inland while the infantry pursues up the coast. Base forces, AA, Eng and CD units are on their way to Carnarvon to establish a proper base.

Northern Australia:
Alice Springs expands airfield to size 4.

SWPac:
While PBYs evacuate as many men as possible, the ex-PM garrison tries to retreat further down the coast away from PM - helped along by an enemy SAG bombarding.

SoPac:
Norfolk Island still the focus of the Allied fleets - BB-TFs bombard again, with a carrier strike as encore. Location of KB unknown, the sub picket lines established around Noumea and the Solomons have nothing to report.
IJN subs are also attracted by the Allied activities:
SOC-1 Seagull reports diving submarine at 115, 173 near Norfolk Island.
Albacore I attacking SS I-154 at 114,170 - SS I-154 is reported HIT
Actually subs everywhere: TF 376 detected by Japanese Float Plane at 173,178 near Tahiti - that pesky sub still eludes air and surface ASW.
Temporary flotation repairs failing aboard SS Cachalot - fingers crossed she will make it to Suva...

CentPac:
An Allied cruiser SAG bombards Canton Is. - but despite embedded DMS discovers the defensive minefield the hard way. One CA and one DD mined, but should survive if not attacked during the retreat. USS Hornet is providing CAP cover - downing a brave Jake trying to counter-attack - and bombed the Canton airfield as well.

NoPac:
58th (Sep) Infantry Regiment has arrived and will ship to Adak.

Homefront / Rear areas:
Temporary flotation repairs failing aboard BB Warspite - she is close to Perth on her way from New Zealand to Colombo for repairs of the remaining major damage and will make a pitstop at Perth.

Intel:
Truk expands port to size 7
1/144th Infantry Regiment is loaded on AK Kyushu Maru moving to Port Moresby.
9th Tank Regiment is located at Palembang(48,91).
23rd Special Base Force is located at Soerabaja(56,104).

Given the presence of Japanese in Sumatra and Malaya (and maybe Cocos Is.?) it might be better to send Warspite from Perth to CT. You can compare the distances by giving the Warspite TF a destination of CT and looking at the hex count it says in the upper left of the TF screen. Then change the destination to Colombo. You might need to build in a waypoint to keep Warspite far from enemy search and bombing range. Judgement of where best to repair Warspite would then be assessment of travel time and risks (enemy and float failure). Considering the danger of a Ceylon invasion during Warspite's lengthy repair, I say CT is less risky.

Done that already - Colombo is closer. CT is 139 hexes as the crow flies. Colombo can be reached in a 126 hex voyage with waypoints that give Cocos Island a wide berth of 23 hexes - with refueling at Diego Garcia. Hermes, CL/CLAA and DDs will provide escort. Granted, 13 hexes is not much difference. Ceylon invasion - a possibility, but if that happens, the eventual loss of Warspite would be collateral damage compare to the loss of the island.
But food for thought, I may reconsider.

Bases lost:
-

Allied ships lost:
DD Preston sunk by SS I-158 near Perth.

Enemy ships sunk:
TK Kozui Maru is reported to have been sunk by SS KXIV near Balikpapan on May 19, 1942

Japanese SRA:
The ususal bombings and bombardments at Manila and Bandoeng.

CBI:
Enemy troop movements in the Wuchow-Kukong-Kanshien area. Kanshien threatened to be surrounded.
DD Arunta bombards Cocos Island on her way from the Med to Australia and damages three Nells. Convoys will have to give that base a wide berth.
British fighters and bombers range over Northern Burma encountering empty air and enemy ground forces well-protected by jungle terrain - at least they gained some exp.

Western Australia:
Nells destroy three tanks of the Aussie Armoured Regiments near Carnarvon. An Australian base force to support CAP is on its way to Carnarvon.
An ASW force of 3 USN DDs is bested by their intended prey, losing a DD.

Northern Australia:
-

SWPac:
US bombers attack Japanese ground forces at Portland Roads without fighter sweeps or escorts, losing 10 Banshees. Shoddy staff work.

SoPac:
Lady Lex torpedoed just west of Norfolk Islan, luckily only one of six torps has hit. The fish and an ammo storage explosion caused only 26 major float damage and little else, not enough for the tough gal to detach from the carrier TF.
At the same time, three Marine Raider Bns land at Norfolk Island and will attack next turn.

US Airacobras sweeping Portland Roads redeem themselves by killing 6 Zeros for no loss.
A IJN cruiser-destroyer SAG manages to avoid naval search and bombarded Cooktown in plain daylight (!), SBDs trying to hit back got roughed-up by Zeros on LRCAP.
