Announcing a new multiplayer series of Strategic Command WW1 featuring Tanaka as the Central Powers vs Balthazor as the Entente. Turn 1 for the Entente will air December 8 at 8am PST. This will be epic as it's our third match against each other with this fabulous game but a first for us on YouTube with the Entente p.o.v.

Checking out your Balkans Variations Mod LP. Curious what are your thoughts after finishing it? Was it balanced well? Any recommendations for the base game from it?

Well, I think the underlying game is still tilted towards the Central Powers (and I was playing the CP in that hard-fought match). The Balkan Variations was originally intended to fix a few things in terms of Serbian and Russian initial deployment , which were subsequently corrected by the devs in the 1.05 update. It also gave the Entente a new DE option to intervene through Greece to save Serbia, in the event that Serbia looked like it would fall in 1914.

In our game, given that Germany concentrated on capturing Poland in 1914, France was able to substantially reinforce Serbia through Albania by late 1914 and Austria-Hungary had to fight a long grinding battle to conquer Serbia, even with a relatively early entry of Bulgaria on the CP side. I don't even remember if the Entente player (Old Crow) opted to pay General Venizelos to stage an early coup in Greece once the trigger conditions were met for the new DE. Old Crow - help out my failing memory here!

For reasons explained earlier in this Forum, I favour using a house rule to restrict selling tech chits by either side on turn one. In return, in the Balkan Variations, Germany, A-H, France and Russia all get some MPPs at the start to spend on operational moves. Thus, I was able to open with a relatively strong German attack in Poland and a reasonable A-H defence in Galicia without selling off all the tech hardware on the first move.

If I had one small piece of advice, it would be: don't sell that chit that Germany starts with on Airship Tech. By 1915, you will value that capability much more than the 20 MPPs you will earn by selling it, however anxious you might be early in the war to operationally move one more corps.

Looking forward to seeing your opening on December 8th!

Nice write up thanks! And I agree about your house rule about no chit selling on turn one. Wish they would implement this in the series!

How did your Dardanelles changes (coastal guns and such) affect things? I liked these changes!

The Turkish guns for the Balkan Variations mod work good. Mike also has a and Arabian Revolt mod we both designed to plug in but its not finished yet. I have a beta version and it works very very well in my tests. I haven't put anything out yet public because Mike was on hiatus for these last months. I'll contact him to see if we can finish it..he did all the scripting.

Ah Grasshopper..we have enhanced partisan problems for the Entente too! e.g. the Senussi and Moroccan Riff partisans for the CP to play with. Seems both sides have Arab and Berber problems, and friends.
If Mike says OK..I will put up my tests that I did 4 months ago. I came up with the concepts in collaboration with MdSmall...and he did the scripting. Its awesome.

First turn is in, Germans DoW on Belgium and make a big push in the West. They also made a lot of noise in the East-not sure their income can sustain being active on both fronts.

More Entente revolts is fine haha. But as the Ottomans you have to defend every single town and port on the entire coastline from Russia to Egypt against all of the Normandy landings in addition to the revolts. It is a daunting task indeed. So I still say no thanks!

You make good points and we will see! I have definitely taken a more balanced approach this time. Last game I made more headway into France but was struggling mightily on all other fronts. Will be an interesting game for sure!
