There is one glaring error though when he says something about statehood in 1949 - that happened in 1959.

I wonder if that bit about reports of saboteurs on northern Oahu was the crew of the mini-sub that beached itself and tried to hide, or perhaps pilots of shot-down Japanese planes. A few years back there was a story posted on the forum about a couple of Japanese pilots who ended up on a smaller island and hid with a Japanese ancestry family for a time before they were tracked down.

Are you referring to the Ni'ihau incident?

That would be it. I was wrong about the number of pilots involved.
