Thank you.

There is one glaring error though when he says something about statehood in 1949 - that happened in 1959.

Great find witpqs! [sm=sign0031.gif]

I wonder if that bit about reports of saboteurs on northern Oahu was the crew of the mini-sub that beached itself and tried to hide, or perhaps pilots of shot-down Japanese planes. A few years back there was a story posted on the forum about a couple of Japanese pilots who ended up on a smaller island and hid with a Japanese ancestry family for a time before they were tracked down.

Are you referring to the Ni'ihau incident?

The Niʻihau incident occurred on December 7–13, 1941, when Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service pilot Shigenori Nishikaichi crash-landed his Zero on the Hawaiian island of Niʻihau after participating in the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Imperial Japanese Navy had designated Niʻihau as an uninhabited island for damaged aircraft to land and await rescue. The pilot then sought and received the assistance of the three residents of Japanese descent on the island in overcoming his captors, finding weapons, and taking several hostages.

That would be it. I was wrong about the number of pilots involved.
