You did get a result from that first Dutch PT attack:

xAP Ussuri Maru collides with xAK Syoan Maru at 55 , 105

Edit: I see in subsequent engagements Syoan Maru took two PT torps but was still there in the last engagement. Tough ship!

Very exciting last two days. I have not seen a better high reward/low risk trap.

Thanks and welcome to the AAR. Wasn't much of a trap though and I fear it could have played out better as the losses to ships (I hate losing ships) were severe. Even if it was a victory overall I think the loss of a BB is not something that gets public applause in the States.

You can keep it out of the papers for a while, as was done with the loss of Lexington after the Battle of the Coral Sea.

What would also make a difference in real life although not in the game is the fact that the ships were lost after the battle so the wounded crew members as well as the rest of the crew could be removed in a more orderly fashion that the ship sinking before that happened. It does not state that in the report but that is something to consider when it comes time to announce the victory where the known enemy losses are announced along with a statement that there was significant damage to some of the Allied ships as well.

Stirring up amphib convoys often results in damaged ships but usually they aren't in danger of being sunk if it isn't a small escort rammed by a freighter. I do like to see these messages though . Two torps (if not wrong due to FOW) should do her in I guess.

This is true and a very good point. West Virginia didn't blow up like real life Arizona but she took several penetrating hits from Hiei so the damage inside the ship would be quite severe I guess. And then there were the 50 20cm hits from the heavy cruisers, which would be HE most likely. I guess the loss of life on West Virginia would be high in the end.

Brave ship

both CA Canberra and DD Lamson sank at Koepang today... this brings our total losses from the naval engagement at Koepang to 1 BB, 1 CA and 4 DD plus all the other damaged ships... the IJN lost more CA/CL than we did plus the transport and troops aboard them but strategically the most important was the impeded invasion of Timor...

this will take forever... I'd give a lot for 300 Sallies instead of the 150 heavy bombers I've got... for every strike against this completely undefended target about 8% of the bombers need repairs/maintenance and within just a couple of days halve of your bomber force is sitting damaged at the airfield and it takes week to get them back into operational state again while as the Japanese my bomber units usually can bomb 24/7 at near full strength...

castor troy: third day of engaging the damn sub, first time we score a direct hit...

Think of it as a training prop for your DD's ASW experience!

I've checked all four DD's experience and none went up even a single point. With tracker I always go through ship experience levels after each engagement if hits were scored. Odd thing is that you get more exp out of a battle if your ships are hit too and not only hitting the enemy.

Good time to stand them down and perhaps move them to a rear area to upgrade and/or replenish aircraft. It's best not to become too routine in your places of attack and origin base lest he work out a counter to it.

Their based at Kendari, pretty much out of scope for the Japanese to bomb the base as there are plenty of fighters and it's a flak nest. He could only attack out of Soerabaja but that's very long range. Leaves him with a bombardment TF covered by KB though.

we surprise the enemy by moving medium bombers to Manado after spotting an enemy convoy moving into the area and getting too close to Manado... unfortunately I just get confirmation of how totally useless medium bombers have become in naval attacks, even at 2000ft... all crews are 70 nav skill and out of way over 100 bombs dropped we get one hit... also moved USMC dive bombers into the area and guess what, forgot about switching them from training to nav attack...

amazingly enough the bombers even achieved some hits during the afternoon strike but we also dropped a hell a lot of bombs here... this is a very exceptional result and in the course of this campaign I have decided not to use medium bombers in a nav attack role anymore... torpedo bombers score hits like wild, pure medium bombers are in some way totally nerved, no idea why...

next attack at Malang and the Dutch mountaineers again trash the enemy assault units... we're still not suffering a lot destroyed squads but disabled squads become more numerous so if the enemy doesn't grant us time to recover we will soon be also starting to take more destroyed squads... if we keep going like this the Dutch will for sure kill more enemy combat squads than we are going to lose when the base will inevitably surrender at some point... I wouldn't be willing to take such losses as the Japanese commander...

Chinese bomber units acting as recon units found enemy fighters at Hankow and the AVG was moved in to do an offensive sweep... we were quite delighted to find Nates in the air which were horribly shot up... it's not like it felt they had no chance as they have probably scored more hits on my fighters than the other way around but with their completely useless armament most burst not even resulted in a damaged Airacobra...

same as the first AVG squadron also this one trashed the IJNAF fighters... we had two damaged Airacobras in total today, no losses... our fighters are immediately leaving their staging airfield again as I expect a retaliation strike of the enemy and at this stage of the war the enemy should be able to field way more stuff than we do, we have to concentrate on a hit and run tactic...

I am not so sure that AV Sagara Maru was sunk if both those torpedo hits were the smaller 45cm ones. Allied Intel always claims a sunk ship after every torpedo or mine hit. If she had fuel loaded to feed the fires, I suppose she could have been in big trouble, but those big AVs are tough. Did you hear sinking sounds?

About the Medium Bomber results - Sardaukar had good results in his most recent AAR post. (See below). The B-25D1 is an attack bomber but the B-26b is just a medium level bomber. Unfortunately we don't know how many of the hits came from each bomber type.

I bet most of the hits are coming from the attack bombers, which I don't have yet. Tried and tried and tried in all the campaigns before, got none of the medium bombers to hit. Dive bombers, torpedo bombers, attack bombers are the ones to go against shipping. Why medium bombers stopped working at some point, no idea.

some Mitchells were set to a too long range and attacked shipping at Cagayan... luckily no CAP at the base but I guess the Japanese wouldn't have expected such a strike... all bombers miss... tried 6000ft this time so they don't just miss but also don't take a morale hit...
