Working through Kull's set up and noticed he used the term Garrison as an action beginning in Burma. How does one set a Garrison? I couldn't find anything in the manual about setting a garrison.

WOW! Where is Alfred when you need him?

I opened up the manual and I found the answer in about ONE MINUTE!

Ok smart ass. Guessing you're one of those that likes to feel superior to new players asking legit questions. I read that section and understand it. My question is what if any action do I need to take to maintain a garrison? Is it simply just leaving the unit there? A non-jerk would have simply said, "it only means you have to keep the number on the left equal to or greater than the number on the right to not take potential losses." FWIW there are 16 hits on the work garrison in the manual so ya, I did read it.

Ian, thanks for confirming the only part of the manual that talks about garrisons other than Manchukwo.

Partly yes but the AV must be equal to or greater than the garrison requirement.

Hey actrade, welcome to the club. The garrison number is simple an abstraction of the "policing" required for that hex area. It is counted in assult value points (AVs). To be 100% protected against the partisans in the area you need to meet or exceed this garrison number by stationing that level or more of AVs in the hex. However it's dice roll and seems to work on the idea that the lower your number of AVs assigned to that of the number needed, the higher the chances of losing victory points (and possibly damage to the hex's facilities) because of the missing AVs. But, let's say if you have a garrison requirement of 120, and you have only 116 AVs, the chances of you having a problem are almost nil (only 1 in 30 chance in this example). So I quite often don't fill a garrison to required levels. Also, I don't know at what level damage kicks in, but I rarely have damage done to a hex's facilities that I have almost as many AVs as required. Damage seems to happen when you are very low in AV requirement or have no AVs in the hex. Hope this helps. Hal

Alfred:

“The lower the available AV is, the higher chance that a partisan attack occurs.”

The penalty I fear most is the disruption of supply flow.

If you read down in the thread you will find that this is one of the sections where
the manual is no longer correct. The damage to the industry facilities was removed
in an early patch.

Why not just answering the question instead of giving the same answer the guy you named would do? Really seems to have become common lately.

He stated that he could not find anything about it in the manual so I looked and I found it in less than one minute. Then I informed him of that.

While I'm new at WiTPAE, I'm not new at this genre as I've been playing strategy games since the SSI days and played both WITE/W and WITE2. I always try and do my due diligence before asking a question (searching manual and/or forums). Unfortunately, there is a segment of all game communities, not just this one, that gets some kind of charge out of berating those asking questions and trying to better understand the very game they purport to love and want to see grow. If we are going to grow this genre and keep it from dying out, we need to be helpful to newcomers, many of which are young enough to be raised in an era where looking up videos on YouTube is their equivalent of reading a manual. That doesn't make them stupid or lazy, it's just where we are today. Cheers.
