Was going to give a quick update.

Progress has not been as bad as earlier feared. This is the beginning of turn 4 after clearing small pocket of isolated Soviet forces.

Supporting Infantry Divisions have began to arrive... along with the light muds... *sigh*

You should see the RR reaching the far West of attached picture.

Unable to really deploy (and keep supplied) any Luftwaffe in the immediate area yet. (this has been common for some time prior to latest patch)

So, most of the next series of German attacks in this region will be (ahistorically) devoid of any Luftwaffe support for the time being.

This is concerning as about this time period is when Soviets really started displaying their tenacity (both on attack and defense).

----

I will followup with current losses shortly.

Current, Turn 4, Air Losses

--------------------

EDIT: My AC Recon losses are lower due to me bumping their altitudes to as high as possible. This really cuts down on their loss rate, albeit at some possible loss to recon efficiency. (not that I can really tell so far)

This is the situation in Army Group South.

Clearing the Galacia pocket taking me a bit longer....

Interesting. Casualties seem lower on both sides. What do you attribute that to? Additionally, are the pockets lasting longer than before? Are you meeting or exceeding historical rates of advance?

This is the situation in Army Group North.

Emphasis has been trying to secure as much of the Baltic Rail network as possible until supporting Infantry arrives.
(the RND gods were not as favorable to me as previously, with more rail needing repair this time)

Should be able to take Pskov this turn and have rail link to it next turn.

Generous supplies starting to accumulate at Riga. Will bump Riga down to P3 once I have more of rail network complete and more interior P4 Depots established.

Riga's Airbase is 50% completed toward level 3. This will be important later as it will serve as a major Ju52 AC base, shuttling in supplies to interior air bases.

(off-map, working on establishing rail-links (via R.A.D.) to those level 2 rail yards along the Baltic coast)

Is this a game vs the AI? And if so, at which level of difficulty? Or if vs a human, who is he if that is something that can be shared?

The pockets are taking me longer clear.

As far as casualties, I usually make an effort to isolate and surround Soviet forces. Try not to make just random attacks without some purpose or goal in mind. Have to be very careful with mobile forces as excessive losses are hard to replace through 1941. (although, AGS requires me to be very aggressive in order to meet historical rates of advance. I can take Kiev, Odessa early, but Rostov is a serious challenge and is not always doable without suffering extreme losses)

If you review the Soviet losses, over 70% has been via "Men Captured". (733k of 1,043k)

I think I am currently on par with historical rates of advance. (haven't specifically checked though)

It is versus AI. Straight defaults as far as level of difficulty.

I can drop current save in a shared folder, if that is what you are talking about.

Thanks a lot for this, it's always nice to see the details of others.

And I didn't know you repaire the railroad to Riga so fast. I never use it (I use the double line through Vilnius & Daugapils to go north) but now that I see that it can be repaired so fast, I might do that.

And you keep some infantry motorized, for more landgrabbing on turn 2. Interesting to see. I only use it to create pockets and always for just one turn, but not for landgrabbing at the start. I might start doing that too.

Thanks again!

As I start running out of trucks, I will de-mobilize all of the infantry except for the 78th Infantry Div.

It is "elite", after all, and capable of 90 morale.

Regarding that rail line to Riga, yeah, you really need it in order to incorporate those level 2 rail-yards along the Baltic Coast.

You can make very fast progress depending if you can take those rail hexes, undamaged. Try NOT to fight on them, because they will become damaged then. So you never want to allow a Soviet unit to retreat to a Baltic rail hex.

EDIT:

I will complete that rail line from Daugavpils to Pskov pretty quickly as well. I find I need both to keep AGN in good supply.

Using Riga as an air supply depot is interesting. I like that. Taking advantage of the Baltic rail conversion is always a high priority when I play. Those first couple of turns are critical the success or failure of AGN.

I do the same for Tallinn as well.

Getting supply to Riga or Tallinn seems fairly easy. Its the rest of the map that poses a problem. :)
