The topic, scope and complexity of WitP will make it a niche game for hardcore wargamers. There will be no mass market for it. So they can't make a profit by selling it to many many people at a moderate price, but may do so by selling it to a few grognards who are willing to pay a higher price for this gem. Furtermore, it's not a game you will play through in a day or a week or a month. So it might be expensive in absolute terms, but it will be cheap in terms relative to how much fun you will have with it for years to come. How long will $70 bucks entertain you in a bar or disco or a fun park? Two hours, three?

It's the strip clubs and brothels that really cost me.

LST, you are exactly right. This game has taken thousands of hours of development and testing, and it will be lucky to sell 5,000 copies. You have to be a certain kind of wargamer, Darkman, before you want to get involved at this level.

It's not gonna be a "pull out your aircraft simulator joystick and whip 'er around" experience.

If you look at it from the point of view of the time and effort that the designers and
developers (not to mention the testors) have had to put into it, and the amount of
playability it promises to provide, IT'S CHEAP! If you want to see a "rip-off" look at
your cable bill.

Hmmm. I recall paying $70 for early pc wargames such War In Russia, Pacific War, all by Gary Grigsby of 2by3 fame (designers of WITP). I am still playing those games over 10 years later, so they were worth several times that price in terms of game value. I have games that quickly left my harddrive after paying half as much. I echo the former posters comments as well. Finally, one can wait till the game is out and proven a winner before you jump. A game of this scope and learning curve will not appeal to the masses.

Let's see. I've had UV since it came out. That's about 2 years or something like 700 days. At an average of 4 hours per day that is 2800 hours of play. It cost me $55.00US with shipping which comes out about 2 cents per hour so far. I think it is well worh it. WitP will probaly get to 1 cent per hour after the first PBEM game of 4 years.

You can always buy two crappy games for $39.00 each or one good one for $69.99. Now you tell me which is cheaper?

So if I've only gotten 2-3 hours a day on UV over the same 2 years, my cost is 3 or 4 cents per hour. I guess that means I haven't yet got my money's worth!

Get real. $70 is as great a bargain as we'll ever see.

I don't mind the price of the game itself but hopefully there will be an affordable way to get the game in the old europe (giving the money to Matrix is one thing, throwing it after FedEx, UPS or whatever is a different story).

Since a few weeks you´re able to order directly from our E-Store, but have the product shipped from a european warehouse. You will now simply end up with what a parcel costs to be shipped wihtin the EU . something around 4.90 EUR.

You people should read the general forums too once in a while

You probably mix the "general forum" up with the "AOW" forum.

Given the tumble the dollar has taken against the Euro, it will probably be cheaper for you to buy it in the US and pay shipping.

Who the hell do you think you r? Im trying to form a discussion here, and you come in out of no where and call me a cheapskate? How about trying a little harder and give me an explanation on why this game is so expensive, everyone else here gave me a reasonable answer , so who is the cheapskate here?

Another comments like that (regarding piracy) and you will be going on permanent vacation. You are now warned.
