I do, I just can't seem to get enough of them, especially those that are written well. Ex. from the viewpoint of some soldier, but still manages to catch all of the important details. Those are alot more intereasting then somthing like "and then my tank died, but it shot it's machine gun 4 times before it died. It didn't hit anything though." Keep them coming, I'm reading them

It would be interesting to hear what people like about the AAR/DAR. It would help those of us who write them.

I read the ones I'm involved with and will also find those of my upcoming opponent to get an idea of what I'm facing. I also will read the occasional random one if I'm jonesing for a game but don't have one.

I do, they can be handy for picking up ideas too of what-not-do as well what you may not have thought of... I like to read them of people I'm playing and also of people I've played in the past... or even a scenario I'm familiar with like the arnhem one Jess and Radboy are playing on spwaw.com

They can be just as interesting when against the AI on a tough scenario or campaign too!

Yo Jess:

There's a hand up over here!!

I do .................I read these DAR/AAR's, as many as possible. And I do follow them through. It's sometimes disappointing when one of them peters out.
The stories are often quite entertaining, ..........................and I want to find out how it ended.

I know that you also get a good idea as to how others go about playing. You can learn as much from a good field report as you can from a manual.
I'd rather take street smart over book smart any day.

You can argue about how much I've learned reading these forums, but I know that I've gained good insights on how the game can be played............by some of the best in the business.
At least as much as at the Training Center, or the Hall of Fame.

Just my two cents worth.

I read them every day. And i follow them all the way to the end. Even tho i only play the AI. I find them entertaining and very educating. I especially like the ones that can make you smile. Even the ones that try to portray the horrors. Keep them coming one of the big reasons i come here at least once a DAY EVERYDAY.

I often read AAR/DAR's. Especially if I'm playing/have played one of the participants ...

I've read many DAR's that are incredibly entertaining ... and sometimes you pick up a tip or two (or at the very least some good intel on someone's playing style

)

I love them !

As stated in this thread, they're great for seeing how others approach and handle different situations. It gives you a feel for tactics and execution from other players. I always liked reading Baseball boxscores, as well as Chess and Bridge play by play in the newspapers, so AAR's are just another way of experiencing the battle as if you were there, with the added bonus of "How would I handle this..."!

I also appreciate allot of the good writing and wonderful sense of humor that pervades allot of the reports.

I read them.

It's the best way to learn what tactic people use. The training center is good for specific questions, but has fewer examples of how the pro's do things.

I do of scenarios or campaigns that I either designed, helped, or tested. Some people are exceptional writers - wish I was as good as some people! (Was that e before I or c before k?)

I don't read them as often as I should, but they can offer tactical tips and good "war stories" at the same time.

That being said, I'd like to see more AARs for the Mega Campaigns. For some, they may be spoilers, but for others, they may help those who get frustrated with particularly difficult scenario threads (MCSE--all of them

).

One of these days, I might write a narrative of one of my solo USMC long campaigns, if anyone is interested. (BTW, it would be cool if we could attach screenshots.)

KG I would be intereasted in reading any AAR/DARs of campaigns. Minefield seems to have found an acceptable way of attaching an image in his latest AAR/DAR. Anyway if you want to write one, I would cetianly read it.

I use hypersnap dx to capture the screenshots. I then use Picture Hanger to host them and it provides the code to post to include them in the DAR/AAR. I use photo shop if I want to alter what is seen.

Good question, Jess. I started reading them about six months ago when you made a post about rbrunsman & Shoe's fighting your beyond the beachhead scenario. I went back and started reading them from the beginning. Both Shoe and rbrunsman were informative and entertaining. I've missed Shoe. It's too bad he's fallen off the face of the earth since the hack attack.

I've been following some others. Most noteably I appreciate Major Mess's self-deprecating humor. He knows he has a lot to learn and isn't ashamed to admit it. That's encouraging to us folks who have never played a PBEM.

The best bit is writing the thing,drawing on all your war knowledge;technical, factual and untruths to create a story on top of a story with all the blood and guts, survival, resurrections,topography showing a big picture.
I notice that theres' hardly any gloating but of acceptance that war is hell and so is writing.
