Barkhorn, I haven't played WiTP, but I have played the heck out of UV, which is probably my favorite computer wargame of all time (until WiTP shows up). This system models every ship, every plane, every *pilot* in the theater. Turns are one day each. (Well, you can play 3-day turns, but I never do.) Logistics play a HUGE role: you must move supply, fuel, and (in WiTP) other resources. It's really a wonderful system. If you have any interest in the Pacific war, this seems to me The Game to get. The downsides: Only a couple in my book. First, you asked about eye candy. The map graphics are luscious, but you won't see planes taking off from carriers, nor will ship-sinkings look like you're blowing up the Death Star in Star Wars. Second, you don't have complete control over everything: e.g., you can tell your CVs where to move, and you can give them a general radius in which to attack (or target a port or airfield), but if you target a TF, you won't have minute control over precisely which ship they attack. Finally, the learning curve is a bit steep, but nowhere near as bad as ASL or any complex board game.
