56 this summer, and started with the original Gettysburg. We literally wore that game out waiting for D-Day
and U-Boat to arrive.

Ah, I see there are a few of us old timers here. Only Svar is older than me of those posted so far.

Gettysburg, Tactics II (always wondered if there was a Tactics I), Afrika Corp, Stalingrad, U-Boat...

Wasn't as involved in wargaming in the '70s (couldn't find opponents) but when I got my Apple II I was right back in the swing of things.

I'm amazed that I'm not the youngest guy here.

I'm 24. Started wargaming with AHs Squad Leader when I was 14 or so. Had all the expansion packs too. My first computer sim was a space game called Lightspeed on 5" floppy on my 286 DX. The first war sim was KOEIs PTO on Sega Genesis.

BTW....good to see that all you old farts arnt just gathering dust.

I completely forgot about PTO! Great game. I still have it, along with my Genisis (gathering dust in a cupboard).

just turned 29 for the 7th time whoo hoo!

first wargame: GG's "Carrier Force"

Saw it almost by accident during a visit to the computer store. Father had to pry
fingers off box before leaving. Several weeks of paperboy money later it was
back in my hot little hands.

many many hours of staring at TV screen followed.

44 turning 45 July 21st. I'm jealous Leo has his birthday on the anniversary of the moon landings. I'm 1 day off.

Got started in early 70's with Panzerblitz then just about every AH game there was. In high school graduated to just about every SPI game there was. Had >60 board games at one time. Have the full magazine series put out by Ballantine's; The History of the Second World War. Read those every Saturday at lunch. First computer wargame was Harpoon.

Can't wait for WiTP. My wife can though...

Happy Birthday Don! I guess the most obvious thing here is that WitP enthusiasts are not a bunch a kids but mature men who find fun and intellectual challenge in good wargames. Matrix Games has done well to provide games interesting enough to grab our attention and keep us calling for more.

I'll be 52 on June 24. Kind of think of the release of WitP on my birthday as a great birthday present, maybe I'll drive over to Columbus to pick it up. If not, I will be sure to buy the download.

Don't we all? 35 here with a long line of AH games in my stable... not to mention Victory Games and a few others... FLATTOP and Pacific War by AH and VG respectively were what hooked me on this theater of the war...

31 on July 1st...

Started playing Avalon/Hill board games like Squad Leader, Panzer Blitz, Western Front, et. al when I was like 11 or so against my Dad... who would beat me badly each and every battle until I got to be about 16 or so and was able to strategize better against him.

First computer war game was Squad Assault by SSI on the Apple II when I was about 10 (I think). Used to play a lot of the SSI Civil War games on the computer like Antietam, Gettysburg, Chicamauga, etc etc. when he got his DOS-based machine. I've been trying to get him to play UV with me, but he claims he's "overwhelmed" with all the micro-management and has yet to get passed simply installing it on his machine. No way I see him trying WitP
