Synjin that sounds similar to my situation. I'm 34, My Dad weened me on board Games. He and his friends used to play alot of Squad Leader.

He also set up a Sandtable in our basement, about 12' by 8' in size with two access holes in the middle. They used to play games using thier own rules with 1/35 th scale armor buildings and troops. Sort of a hybrid based on squad leader. Very impresive looking(He was even on TV showing it off Once). Unfortunately I was considered too young to play, bummer.
They also divided up the basement once into two rooms with a curtain in between and used micro warships and subs to play out 3d wolfpack games( they used a very clever device made from PVC and mirrors and binoculars to create a periscope for the sub player)they used red lights in the op room, made for a real cool effect.

My early love in gaming was AD&D (also a Gary Grigsby masterpeice- still going strong from what I hear). Once the computers became cheaper we used the atari 800xl alot(I still have one mint in box)
I remember playing lots of cosmic balance, war in russia, Pacific war, carrier strike.

Thanks for the post Brady, its been fun.

26. First wargame was AH's latest edition Gettysburg, all of 16 years back. Rather odd thinking of it like that.

26 soon and I have played wargames pretty much my whole life starting as kid from using rocks for tanks and cones for soldiers. The sand playground was a big warzone with trenches and all.

Nice to see a few people younger than I am - Conception was in the 70's but I did didn't arrive until 1980 - so although technically alive when we won the americas cup, I didn't really think much of it at the time.

I'm 32. I started Japanese board games when I was junior high school student(like these board games http://www.geocities.co.jp/HeartLand-Namiki/2354/warslg_game.html ). And played KOEI's games( http://www.koei.co.jp/ )very much. Now Matrix's games are my best. English is very big wall though

Slight correction--it's Gary Gygax who was responsible for the creation of AD&D, not Gary Grigsby. I'm a since-reformed role player who has converted to wargaming over the last decade.

Just to keep this on-topic, I turned 32 last month.

I had the ZX also, then the Spectrum 48k, before getting a newer Spectrum 128k +3 (+3 denoted floppy drive) . My favourite game was "Arnhem". Wasted away my 11-16 years playing that game .
