Overall: Patton. I'm an ETO junkie.

Extreme Honorable Mention: Band of Brothers. Not a movie but my current absolute favorite story about armed conflict. Even my wife loves BoB.

Status: offline 		A good WWi is the miniseries ANZAC's, 5 x 2 hour episodes and not just about galipolli, but much time spent on the western front. You can even see Paul Hogan ( crocodile dundee0 in one of his much better rolls

other than that "A bridge to far" is a true classic

War and Peace (Greatest Achievment in recent History)

Best movie has to be War and Peace though. It's a Soviet made film about the Franco Russian war of 1805-1812
Because it was made in 1969 there was no way of using computers to generate all the men needed to fight a battle, so the soviets gathered some 250,000 extras from their army and taught them to act, they each had authentic uniforms and were all nicely clothed. The battle scenes are just fantastic with 250,000 men slugging it out on film, and then insane camera angles were great. I think something like 200 horses actually died while filiming and so it was banned in some states by those Animal Rights Groups.

Status: offline 		Not to nitpick, but isn't "Dr Strangelove" more of a sci-fi film or even a satire? I never think of it as a war film, though it has that as a background.

Status: offline 		Recently, Enemy at the Gates was a pretty good one. And the original Alamo with John Wayne is a personal favorite. Memphis Belle was pretty good. And a favorite of mine, not a real "War" movie, but For the Boys was pretty good.

basically anything about the Pacific because it is such an interesting theater of war.
