Wow! Those were the only hits scored on your PT force? Holy PT BOAT!

Well, if this is not proof that PT boats are mis-modeled, I don't know what is. There's no way they could touch this TF during daylight. Still, congratulations on damaging Akagi.

Looks like daytime too. Thats just insane. I could see maybe getting a suprise torpedo attack during the night. But with those DD's and CL's no way the PT's would even get close.

Well chalk up a victory for Japan. When the devs get done with the changes to the PT boats, their only use will be for fishing.

Limiting the range of torpedos on PT's to 1000 or 2000 yds would make them have to survive gunfire for quite a while before getting close enough to attack. But they still might get lucky at night.

MK 9 Torpedos are listed with a range of 22,000 feet outranging most guns. But how the hell often would you hit anything with them? It would take half the day to cover that range.

I think that the main problem here is that the combined firepower of 8 destroyers, 1 light cruiser, 7 heavy cruisers and 6 carriers managed to hit one PT boat once during a daying attack. This seems to be similar to the problem to when we see a group of warships attacking a group of unloading AP's and only hitting 2-3 ships whilst the remaining ones contine to unload.

For whatever reason people seem to have an emotional affectionate feeling towards PT boats, but, in reality, they didn't accomplish all THAT much in the war, and I suspect the same money spent on destroyers or DEs would have been a better expenditure of money.

wow-Is that reproducable?

Looks like PT boats 'slipped through the cracks' code-wise...

I am not that emotionally attached to them, just thought I would play devil's advocate. :) I agree that these results should not of happened, and also concur that the routine to determine what ships get attacked in a naval conflict needs to be looked at again.

I'd like to see something like this happen again before we nerf the PT's. I haven't see wonky results from either PT's OR subs. My thinking is that Kid should've opted to play the lottery over WitP tonight.

With CV tracking torpedoes! These will not hit any other ship type!

Well....maybe it was foggy...possibly, the Japanese had no radar....perhaps ships were oiling....maybe they were recovering aircraft....maybe they were misdentified. Or perhaps the PT's activated their "cloaking device". Still it seems to be a little far-fetched

I don't think pt boats were very effective at all during the war especially when confronted with destroyers or bigger. Its not just the 5 inch guns pt boats have to worry about, the bofors smaller 40 or 20 mm and even machineguns since there mostly open deck boats.

Guys, the Leyte jeep carrier mess shouldn't have happened, either. Best situational results sometimes happen. If it happens a few times with the PT's and they generally muck up other TF's as well, then there is room for action.

My biggest complaint about that incident is that all the PTs weren't sunk... What were the crews on those CAs and DDs asleep throughout the entire fight ?

Excellent point! And Mathias Rust should never have been able to fly a Piper Cub through Russian cold war air defences then land in Red Square

I don't know. Three torpedoes got through. This is like a one in a billion shot. There have already been other 'odd' PT results posted too.

I have trouble with it because I tend to get one or two reported torp hits per group of five boats, but lose ALL the PT's.
