I've just had a play around with photoshop and the map images in the game folder, and produced some effective greyscale maps of an area I'll be playing on. I'm sure if I really knew what I was doing with photoshop I could have made some really nice ones.

The fact that MATRIX is making a printed version of this map available is one of
the worst pieces of news I've heard on the forum. It means they are committed
to this God-Awful piece of junk with all it's inaccuracies. Has anyone eles noticed
that aside from the "made-up transportation nets" the "distance-warping effects"
are also one-sided? Not only is New Guinea/Pt Moresby out of C-47 range from
Australian Air bases they historically made the flights from---but Rabaul is also
completely out of B-17/B-24 range from ANY base in Australia---even though it
was regularly bombed from them in the actual war. It looks more and more as
if a "Japanese Fan-boy" put this thing together...

I feel your pain Mike...

How is it packaged; folded or rolled in a tube?

WE have to pay $20 for a map ! Please tell me that is a mistake.

$70 for the game. Ok, that is pretty high, but a very good game.

downloading it, ok, again not too bad. Even with the printing of a 200+ page manual.

But give me a break. $20 for a map. Every other game I have ever bought has a box, a printed manual and a map, etc.

I think $20 for a printed map is a shame and disgrace.

Kpax,

You don't NEED a map, as it is always done in-game.

This map is a poster-sized bonus for us yahoos who like to sit and stare at the wall and project strategy when we need to unplug from our systems..

I think it's worth the price meself..

Ah, what the hell...

It's always better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it, but do I need it, or want it, and if I want it I need $20 which I don't have.

It is a goodie we brought up because the fans demanded it. You don´t have to buy it to play the game.

Hi, Mike I invite people to critise but if they do so they should at least be right.

Can you give me a date of a single B-17 raid target Rabaul that left an airfield in Oz?
(They can't reach it in UV either and I've yet to find any record of such a strike)

Why do my C-47 reach Port Moresby from Cooktown?

Its 27 hexes from Cooktown to Rabaul, 28 from Cairns, in UV (just checked). Im about 100% sure that the USAAF ran missions against Rabaul out Oz, but staged through Port Moresby. Dunno if that was all of them, though. I can dig up the details should anyone want, but it'll have to wait till monday so I can get a peek at the official USAAF history at the local library. Is Buna reachable from Cooktown by C-47 in WitP?

Okay so maybe $20 is a bit much to pay for a map, and then again maybe $70 is a bit much to pay for a pc game, but I bought the game the moment I knew it was out, called a friend and he bought it also, and will be ordering both maps momentarily, thank you Matrix. I think its darn nice of Matrix to take the time to offer these optional items, and frankly I hope they are successful with their sales, which will then encourage them to expand on this idea. This game is huge, and there must be dozens of useful things that could be produced, such as rosters and preprinted forms for keeping tract of the thousands of details one must follow to play this game. I'm sure many of the players already have developed such systems on their own. Perhaps we could start a forum discussing this subject, and attempt to crystalize the ideas submited into a preprinted package which would also be available from Matrix.

Hey just looked at the WitP shopping site. Great stuff. I know my wife is going to look hotter than ever in her new WitP Tshirt, and my coffee is going to taste better in my new mug too. Yum Yum!
