with alot of the discussions of the AI and the whole command of one side, thought maybe some of you may want to try this (if not already), and let the game play out from here....

Commanders - J)Japan A)Allied

decide which side you wish to play, then, place the following options

Realism : Everything Switched on... under reinforements +/- 60days (though can be set to "Fixed" if one wishes. Vary setup OFF.

Game Options : Everything Switched on....AI difficulty to Hard.... turn and Plane/TF radius can be switched to player choice (some slower machines benifit from plane/TF radius circles off).

Preference : Combat animations OFF (this gives away too much information in combat), Combat Summeries ON (with Fog of War on, this is your best chance of a close estimate of combat). Everything else here is player choice per their machine and time per turn, the higher the delays, the longer the turns, the more information you recieve.

----------------------
Allied Player - As Allies, first turn is automatic as the Japaneese will bomb Pearl harbor. Once yours start, place every Command area (the Z key) under computer Control except EAST. (covers the West coast as well as Pearl and small central islands).

restrictions : You are not able to adjust LCU (land combat units) in any way under computer control. You may not change or move Air groups. The ONLY thing you may adjust is naval units (ships). You can not change out Leaders, adjust planning or in any way "fiddle" with computer controled areas. Again, the only "operational" level you may use is to adjust Naval Units within computer controlled areas (no Subs).

Goal : With the West coast, try and keep the computer controlled areas supplied, bringing in men and matierals and letting the "commander...ie AI" take control once supply has been recieved. Win the War. you are Nimitz.
-----------------------------

Japaneese Player - Your first turn is also automatic, as you will watch Pearl harbor unfold. Once your turn comes, place the following under computer control (the Z key)
NE, NW, W, SW. You will notice you have more control then the Allied player, with the southern areas under your control. Also, Japan herself is under your control.

Production : You may NOT alter production until June 1st, 1942. Until then, your goal is to keep Japan Supplied and start to stockpile. (please understand Production COMPLETELY before attempting to fiddle with this, as it will place you at a huge disadvantage.

Restrictions : same as the Allies. There is one note here. Some LCU units come into play from China and Kwantung Area for use in the southern commands. You may adjust these when they come available and send them to any command you wish.

Goal : with the Southern area at your disposal, force the Allies into a Sue for Peace. Win the War. You are Yamamoto. You must set computer controlled convoys to bring oil and resources home, as well as setting escort convoys with these.

Final Note : Once you place a leader in command (ie Nimitz for Central Pacific) you may NOT remove them. This applies to all units, ships, air groups. Remember, anything under computer controlled can not be moved, changed. The one exception are TF's (task forces) as those leaders will change out from time to time (ie Halsey sick during Midway).

---------------------------------
I think you will find the AI to do quite well, and once the patch is out, crossing fingers, alot better. Some mistakes will be made, why you have control of the naval units (not subs), but overall, this places you in the command chair, and letting your people who you have under you do the work.

good luck

I don't want to piss in your pocket, but I just don't get the aim of your post... I NEVER let the computer in charge of the booth.

ya, go ahead and delete this, no sense bothering here with this

either your a fanboy elite, or, your not, sorry, I think if the game had a computer control, there had to be a reason, either way, close this thread as it was a poor attempt to avoid yet more he said, they said, this is true, that isn't fighting going on...

back to bitching at one another

Bart, your opinion IS as respectable and good as any other opinion. I just don't get your point, that's all. You are right, the computer option is in the game for some reason. But I want to enjoy this great simulation at 100%, so NO computer for me

Bart. I thought you ideas interesting (have a friend who played his first two efforts
in the manner you suggest just to lower the learning curve). One thing, though.
As Nimitz or his Japanese equivilent, you should be able to "fire and replace" com-
manders if they prove dissappointing. That power you DID have.

good point Mike, though I wanted to give an idea about the "overlord" syndrome that seems to take place... I realize the flexability of the game is immense ! with the micromanaging sometimes overwhelming.

The main idea here was to have a certain area where you could work and you bet, as Yamamoto or Nimitz, you should be able to fire, replace as needed ! (again I hope the patch comming stops the transfer of leaders from one place to another, since there is no real "delay" to get your commanders from say SouthPac to the Philip is. overnight)

again this was just a suggestion to stop the overload sysdrome (ie.. have to command every little detail of every little piece on the map)... since Nimitz didn't even have control of the sub Ops (as that was handled elsewhere)...plus, I think it gives the Devs a good feedback on how their AI and computer controlled areas are working, to better improve...

my second post was a frustration of not getting into yet another debate, argument over AI and computer controlled functions, but instead try it and see what in fact is wrong vs "it suxs" lol

anyway, try it, dont try it :) so far personally im having a blast trying to save the dutch as the US as well as feed OZ and prepare for an obvious stalemate in central pacific.
