Well after a short break due to Luskan's work (get your life set-up in the correct order....games first then work) and my PC deciding it was time to drop it's guts, we have at last managed to get a turn done.

Luskan's build up at Pagan is now starting to draw the full attention of the RAF and is now getting bombing raids everyday. But while the losses are low (at around 100 men killed and wounded ) the toll will build. I am determined to crush the offensive with allied air power even before it starts!

Bugger! My aircraft refused to fly this turn, meaning that a day passes at Pagan with no jap kills. Grrrr.

Yorktown has just completed her re-fit and Hornet should have finished hers in a few days. Apart from that things are vweery vweery qwuite.

Bit annoyed about things at Pagan. I had 4 heavy AA units detailed to protect that particular invasion, and I can't remember where the hell I sent them (I remember watching the RAF's poor performance and sending them somewhere else as a result).

The RAF aren't doing any worrying damage at Pagan, but they will if given enough time. I'm going to move a few AA units in (when I find them) and maybe a few fighters, although that will mean putting my fighters in range of his (is much nicer to outrange your opponents fighters by a long way).

AA upgrades on Raver's CVs is bad news. I think he gets 2 different AA upgrades before the end of the year for his CVs and BBs. The danger is that once he's had both upgrades to his big ships done (guessing around 6/43, maybe a bit earlier because of the size of his shipyards) Raver can safely break his CV/BB groups down into smaller units and still get as much protection as the Death Star tactic. I on the other hand, can abrely get my ships painted.

Actually my CVs get TWO upgrades before the end of '43

It will be nice to fight Zeros over my home turf for a change..........Luskan rarely brings the air battle to me.

For the moment, and yet Raver thinks he spotted a val near wake a few turns ago.

IJN HQ has no comment at this time.

Hmmmmm..........strange. One of my subs that is on guard east of Wake Is reported being spotted by a Val before doing a crash dive. now I've been watching Wake vwery vwery cwosly and he has no aircraft based at Wake. So either the sub skipper is wrong or Luskan has a CV Tf in the area near Pearl.

Just to be on the safe side I now have 250 M/LRBs on alert and some 400 fighters currently on 75% CAP, and they will remain that way until I have swept the ocean in a 500 mile arc around the Hawiain Islands.

he is maybe on the way to the west coast again to raid shipping lines ?

there is a gap between midway and dutch harbour/anchorage where the jap can slip any ship through without notice of the allied player

Its an interesting idea. Sneak in behind Pearl and wait in the shipping lanes. But on the down side, its an awfully long and dangerous trip, you can only stay on station for a short time and both Pearl and the West Coast are loaded up the gills with bombers. I would guess that Luskan has better things to do with his CVs, like plaster Midway.

Well, having a few patch issues here at the moment, so will be tomorrow before I sort it out.

Raver's been sitting back and watching the clock, and for the last few weeks, since i've been preparing Burma, chasing his units around China and taking over Java, I've been too lazy to chase him further.

Time to sink some of that allied shipping before Raver gets too much of it. I was tempted to try and take a little island further out to tempt his cvs and transports with divisions aboard out to fight, but decided I'd much rather catch his CVs unaware in their home waters (ie. when his pilots are on training or stood down). Raver made the mistake of telling me that some of his CVs just finished refitting, and there are only a couple of places on the map that could be at . . . I think my anti-virus software is chewing up the patch on the way through, since the size of the file I'm trying to download, and the size of the file I'm actually getting are very different . . . .

Raver let's me know he's on to me by asking "did I just see a val near midway" and then two turns later wonders why I didn't go through with the raid!

What sort of lunatic would try and hit a ready pearl harbour with precious KB? Iw as never going to bomb the place - just sit outside allied fighter range and shoot down bombers, and maybe skrag a convoy if I was lucky.

Well here is a pic of what I know and think that I am facing in Burma..............my intel says that there are some 200,000 troops heading for Mandalay. That should make things a tad hot when they finally get there. In the meantime I have been resting the bulk of my bomber crews in preparation for the coming attack. However, looking at the current troop movements I don't anticipate anything for at least one to two weeks. That breathing space is being very well used with suppies being flown in and RAF fighter and bomber squadrons being made ready. The RAF got it's first Spitfire Sqdn today which has really boosted moral of the fighter boys who are keen to mix it up with the japs.

Else where Luskan is being very quite with little activity apart from clean up operations in Java and small unit operations still continuing on the north coast of PNG.

For some weeks now I have been trying to find a pesky RO sub that has been flying recon missions along the far northern coast of Oz, then lo and behold an escorted transport TF heading to PM run slap over the top of him ! The sub managed to avoid contact but the fact that it has now been found gives me a much more norrow area to hunt in. An ASW TF has been ordered into the area to put an end to the spy mission once and for all.

Well, nice to know Raver's info isn't perfect. He has a few of my divisions spotted in Burma - fine. What he doesn't have is my armoured spearhead, of 5 armoured units at 100%, which are eager for their chance to blitzkreig across the river and through Mandalay like they were driving Tigers!

I have to admitt to being somewhat uneasy. Bananana boy has been building for an assualt on Mandalay for a number of weeks now and there is yet no sign of him moving forward. There are now build-ups of aircraft to support him in his attack and he still has a lot of units along way away from the front. I am beginning to wonder if he is infact ever going to make a move. Is he prehaps trying to pin me down in Burma while his real target is India? Has he been reading PZB/Wobblys AAR and now has grand plans for the sub-continent?

Looking at my strength in India I have 15 Sqdns of bombers (MRB) 5 Sqdns of LRBs and 22 Sqdns of fighters (mainly Hurricanes but also now one Sqdn of Spits). I have five divisions of Infantry and the Chindits Bdes are now starting to arrive which will then give me a total of 6 Divs.

My Spider senses are tinglling.

Well there I concentrating on sinking the only known RO in the area when whoops! My mine TF ran right over the top of a second one just south of Gilli Gilli. I am happy to report that I sank her, but not before she put a big hole into a Dog Dog, which also sank.

The first of the new USAAF bomber groups sent to India flew their first mission against Pagan today knocking out 3 resources, yeah it is not much but it is a start for the green crews whom all returned safely. The Liberators and Mitchell are the first of three full wings (9 BGs) that are planned to deploy to India, and as their experiance rises so shall the toll that they extract from the Nip.

An RAAF Mitchell Sqdn operating out of PM found a small TF and bombed it in the Bismark sea, it is thought that this TF is carrying troops to be used in future operations against PNG, but with one AP taking two bomb hits it is doubted that Luskan will continue. The RAAF chaps are very keen to fly some follow up missions to catch the rest of the TF.

I have been getting some disturbing intel reports of troop and ship concentrations in Singapore. Latest intel shows some 196 ships based at Singers with some 36 LCUs. I am going to have to get some more hard data on this.

Well, by ass or by class Raver's ASW search an destroy deal worked brilliantly.

As for Burma, things took are taking too long. My supply buildup was complete, and then I had a crazy autoconvoy steal some of those supplies and dump them somewhere silly (my fault for not paying more attention to it).

Singapore is now a major Hub. Everyone knew it would be. Basically produces enough supply to support itself, massive airbase, huge minefield, and kick ass CD array with a big fort.

FIghter squadrons that have been upgrading are on their way to Burma to end Raver's little bombing sprees, and I've got a plan that should cut the feasibility of allied heavies in burma seriously.

There is little to report..........Luskan has been somewhat busy with work so this has slowed down our usual pace of one turn per day to one turn every second day.

The RAAF Mitchells basd out of PM made another run against the Jap transport TF that they hit yesterday but without the same success. The TF was found but no bombs managed to find their mark. Things continue to bubble in Burma while the rest of the Pacific is quite.

As of Jan 42 I redesigned my submarine net, in order to try and get some worth out of my absolutely shattered submarine force. I'll have to post some sunk ship totals sooner or later!

A big air battle over Pagan - with over estimates on both sides. The real score was more like 5 dead wellingtons, 3 dead tomahawks and 5 dead zeros. Fortunately, seems like I didn't loose 5 good pilots.

Raver is content to let me steal real estate in PNG, while I slowly chew my way across Java.

Interesting ! My combat report shows a somewhat different picture over Pagan:-
Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 11

Allied aircraft
Hurricane II x 30
Wellington III x 54
P-40B Tomahawk x 33

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 24 destroyed
Ki-51 Sonia: 2 destroyed, 7 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane II: 1 damaged
Wellington III: 3 damaged
P-40B Tomahawk: 4 destroyed

Japanese ground losses:
12 casualties reported

Airbase hits 1
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 13

I have not lost any Wellingtons and even though the fighter jocks claimed 24 Zeros destroyed the Intel boys are saying that 6 were shot down. The fact is Luskan is lossing the airwar over Burma. My bomber boys are gaining in strength and experiance with every mission flown, and I am yet to meet any serious enemy CAP. Luskan must only be using his second string pilots, or if they the all-japanese first team, then their skills are laughable!

I am starting to get some interesting intel out of Singapore and it is really worrying some of the back room boys:-
53rd Construction Battalion is located at Singapore.
3rd Air Division is located at Singapore.
16th Army is located at Singapore.
8th Tank Regiment is located at Singapore.
3rd Air Division is located at Singapore.

There are 39 LCUs at Singers and at least 120+ ships either in port or swing at anchor.......4 of those have been identified as fleet CVs. Luskan can not have gathered that many ships and LCUs for nothing. There is something in the wind and it is going to be BIG. Either he is aiming for an amphib op in India or he has his sights set further south such as the north and west coast of Oz.
I am going to redouble my efforts to gather more intel.

As of Jan 42 I redesigned my submarine net, in order to try and get some worth out of my absolutely shattered submarine force. I'll have to post some sunk ship totals sooner or later!

However, I've been waiting and waiting and FINALLY I'm starting to see results. Last turn I sank a dd and it cost me a sub off the oz coast. This turn I do even better.

Let me guess...without reading the AAR for awhile, are you talking about Allied ASW shattering your sub force?

Nope, were are running 1.3 but started with beta 1.0 so have been upgrading and continuing ever since. This AAR first started before the game was released.

The fact that this game is so enjoyable even though started prior to release is a testament to the quality of the product. Every other game I've had my hands on prior to release (and in some cases, after release) wouldn't have cut it.

My second string boys are in Burma, and they're loosing planes. But I've got plenty of them. What they are gaining is experience. I'd have 700 nates packed into Pagan if I thought Raver's boys would just kill them all.

As for Singapore . . . bugger eh? All I get from my intel are really helpful things like this
Intel Officer: "Yes sir - I can possibly, maybe, sort of confirm that we definitely suspect, even hypothesise that there are still American troops at Pearl Harbour . . . or not."
