Had 5 pt attack IN DAYLIGHT!! 4BB assorted Cruisers and 6dd,they had suprise but took NO LOSSES or hits, and got 2 torp hits on a BB.
In reality PTs could maby get a torp hit at night, and take heavy losses!!! but in daylight an attack like that would be suicide.

Seen it before and has been argued at length.

Wait until you have 5-6 of them penetrate a CV TF in broad daylight after being sighted by search a/c for 3 days and start combat at 1000 yards and manage to put a couple torpedos into each CV and escape without a shot being fired.

Supposed to have been toned down some in 1.3 patch. Have not seen it since, but then again, I avoid any area where PT boats have been sighted like the plague since that happened to me.

That's interesting. I haven't had an Allied PT boat hit anything since I upgraded to 1.30. They are now like Allied subs. If they run into SC TFs they are toast, and even when they run into transport TFs they don't do a thing.

Fusa just did three rounds against Zeta 16's dutch pts in Borneo action, 1 night, two day.. those big guns sure made some big dents in those fragile hulls, no hits for him, no shells no torps nothin.. and fuso was a cripple thanks be to the naval sea dogs of war for that bit of luck

Since 1.3, in my games, All my US PTs at Manila got obliterated by Jap DDs. I'm scared to committ my Dutch PTs.

The above occured using 1.3 patch.
There was a SAG of DDs in hex to protect the BB TF which was on Bombardment. The BBs did have enough DD cover in their TF. Maby the Routines for bombardment TFs versus PTs havent been fixed in 1.3.
The SAG DD TF didnt engage on the first day.

Under 1.3, I also have seen no uber PT tactics. Most of the PT attacks I've seen usually result in the PT's taking most of the losses. Even when the PT's attack unescorted transports, I don't see PT's slaughtering ships. So as far as I am concerned things in this aspect of the game are closer to what I believe reality should be. Now if we could just get the rest of the problems fixed we'd (at least I KNOW I will be) be in heaven!

My observation was from 1.21, but we shall see now that me and Ron are going to crank out a test PBEM game using the mod him and Tankerace/Don are working on.

Have to admit I have, though it was no tactic, just dumb luck.
In a game vs. Herbie (where he went for the PI opening with KB), I was escorting an AK out of Manila with some evac'd troops on board, using 3 PTs. Well, the Nells found the AK in the Sulu Sea and renderding the PTs mission moot. So, looking for trouble, decided to cruise (literally) over to Jolo, and mess with the landing forces there on the way south to Dutchland.

Well, it went like this; get message that Jap SF is reacting to the move. Since I am on cruise, I don't get there until daylight. Get there to find Kongo with 2 CA and a division of DD. Cut to the chase, we get the surprise option, hit with one torpedo and run. Later would be caught and lose 2 pt.

BUT (you knew there was a big but coming up) that one torpedo hit Kongo, penetrated her magazine spaces and the resultant explosion sank her.

That has been the first and only PT action in my game so far, and we stand on the 23rd of Dec.

Congrats on your attack! I find that the only way I have been able to get PTs to work is to use them in a port that has not fallen yet. They succeed pretty consistently in this use, but a converted to matchwood in most other situations.
