here's an odd plane idea that I almost went with -

basically, add a generic trainer to the force pool with units coming into play very late in the war. The planes should have few, if any weapons. No factories produce these planes, and they don't upgrade, and no one in their right mind would convert factories to them. The jap player would convert these planes to kamikazis (they ain't good for nothin' else) as soon as the units became available. Their sole purpose is to simulate the late war kamikaze runs made by trainer aircraft. This wouldn't waste planes or replacements, since the units would arrive fully equipped.

downside-
it's impossible to know exactly when these planes would be needed: example, it would be silly to have trainer suicide planes available if you still own Luzon. Also, there are only so many jap plane slots, and I can think of several better uses for them.

rhohltjr,
I've added your F7F and added your Ki-83 to my mod twice, once as an F and again as a NF (I already had the G8N and the F8F). The only thing I changed from you stats was the Ki-83s maneuverability. I dropped it to 33 - it's hard to imagine a twin engine plane with the turn radius of a P51.

If I add the Ki-200 what units would recieve it. I wouldn't think it would be mainstream. Oh, and shouldn't the Ki-200 be a jet fighter? Or does the jet fighter block work in the database? Nevermind, I'll post another thread on this. I'd like to know about electronic warfare planes as well.

here is the side art for the q1w. I also dont agree with decreasing the ki 83 manouver to 33. Manouverability also includes speed, climb and dive rate and roll rates.

When I played Dynamix Aces of the Pacific and flew F8Fs against those Ki-83s they brought along a lot of "pucker factor" IMO.

Yes, Ki-200 Kikka was the Japanese version of ME262 jet. Only a few units would have been equiped with them probably(your choice). Don't know about jet fighter block. One thing though, dont think there would be any cooresponding jet engine sound you could coordinate with either if you like to listen to the SFX.

Hmmm. How do you know about the Ki-83? What good stuff have you dug up??

The Rita would have been a Betty on steroids.

in regards to the Ki-83 the only info I have is from William Greens Fighter Vol 3 which describes the Ki 83 as having exceptional manouverability and being able to execute a loop at 403 mph in 31 seconds the diameter of the loop being 2,200 feet. His reports are based on allied tests post war. It is described as being very aerodynamically clean.

It was fast, had a high climb rate and although no dive rate is listed its extra weight would have given it a high dive speed.

actually, climb is a separate stat in the game and the Ki-83 already benefits from outstanding climbing ability. now, roll and dive would be included in Maneuverability; however, roll is one of the problems with rating the Ki-83 too high. Twin engine planes have very slow roll rates when compared to singles. The Me-110 had a good turn radius, but it was still easily outmaneuvered in a dogfight. Keep in mind that the rating I gave the plane still makes it the most manueverable twin engine in the war, and, combined with that incredible climb, it's definitely one of the best fighters in the game. Maybe still the best jap fighter in the game considering that most jap fighters have around 2700 climb, and we all know how important climb is, both in the game and in the real world. Of course we all agree it was an outstanding bird and we (the allies) are lucky it never saw an assembly line.

ps. by the way, I have a pair of pics that I've cooked up but haven't the slightest idea how to post them. How are y'all doing that?

I hate to be a party pooper, but the Ki-200 was a Japanese copy of the Me-163, not the Me-262.

http://www.combinedfleet.com/ijna/j8m.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_J8M

That really sucks, since the Me-262 is a beautiful plane, and the Me-163 looks like something aliens would probe you with.

OK. My bad. Too much sorting through websites where I am lucky to even get a glimpse of
information I really seek. The Kikka WAS the Japanese attempt at the Me-262.

You know, even though the Ki-200/Me-163 would be more realistic, I may go with the Kikka for my mod . . . just because I like it better. I wonder what the stats would be.

I've seen a lot of pretty air plane pictures, but haven't seen anybody put together top views, bottom views, alpha top views, database data, squadron numbers, upgrade paths, and production data.

Is anybody putting together a complete scenario with all of these aircraft?
