Hi all,

Happy New Year! My new mod has been sliced, diced, grated, pureed,
and then put in the egg nog.

I have sent it off to Spooky for his site and you can also email me at masonsgild@charter.net

There are many changes, plus it is now reworked for 1.4.

The largest change is the inclusion of advanced Engine factories for Japan. They will add accuracy to the game. No more engines produced in '41 going into Ki84s!

Hope you enjoy it and have a good year.
I will also have 3 or so more scenarios done in the next 2 weeks.

One will hopefully be an inclusion of Andrew's excellent map mod.

I will also do a 'No Yamatos' scenario which is not a Jap fan boy scenario; It is fair and balanced to the cost of the Yamato program.

Mike

I should also mention that the majority of ASW and Heavy bomber accuracy problems have been solved.

I hope.

Could you post a list of modifications to this scenario?

Thank's for your effort!

Mikes WitP scenario 15 mod notes.

Enjoy!

I have worked with Grigsby games for a while now, starting with BTR i worked fairly heavily with Jean Claude on modding scenarios.
Many changes which we researched extensively are just as applicable to this game as well as BTR. The A20B & B26B/C for example.

So, here goes.

I have added a slight amount of heavy industry and repair shipyards to Sasebo both because Sasebo was one of the 4 most important ports in Japan and because i have complicated Japan's aircraft construction program and remember, every time you switch aircraft production you damage all factories. This change will keep things balanced.

All aircraft have been reworked. A6M5's are less impressive, F6F's are less impressive, A20B's have no armour, B26B/C's have fewer nose guns as the 131 built with extra nose guns mostly served in Europe in a low level role while the B26's in the Pacific served in a medium level role.

Buffaloes/339's/F2A's have all been reworked to historical numbers. Some of you might be pleasantly surprised. The F2A is, after much soul searching, the F2A3.

P51H's have been added for the allies. Yikes are they fast!

All Japanese upgrade paths have been reworked; Ki-43's are no longer stuck at model 2's, they now upgrade to Ki-84's.
There are now 2 models of Ki-61 available, the model Ib in late '42 and the model 2 in '44. The Ki-61 is now worth building. These were the best mid war fighters Japan built and i would much rather fly one of these than a Zero.

A6M2's now upgrade to A6M3's. There was NO reason for them not to upgrade. The A6M2 was removed from front line service in October '42.

N1K Kyufu Float fighters are now available to replace the Rufe in January '43. They will auto upgrade.

The bomb load of American heavy bombers has been reduced to realistic levels. 4800lbs for B17's, 6800 lbs for B24's.

D4y Judys are now available for production in late '42. These planes were ready to build in '42 historically and were not built mostly to save cost of retooling.
P1Y's now carry torpedoes and G4M2's will upgrade.

****All Japanese planes have origional names, at least the ones i could find.***** Probably will be reintroduced at a later scenario

The Ki-21/Ki-48 maneuver issue has been fixed and now Ki-21's will upgrade to the marginally better Ki-49's.

I restrained myself and did not add the G8M or the G10M bombers to Japan. I might add them in the future with like 1 fictional group for each. Boy, they would be expensive though!

Many allied aircraft have been slightly reworked with armour removed from some early aircraft and my pet P39 upgraded slightly. I thought about adding the P39L/N/Q to the game as an upgrade but decided the changes were too incremental.

The Hurricane IIB is now in the game with the IIC showing up about 6/42. The IIB will be the allies best fighter for a while. Watch out Oscars!

The P400 really, really sucks now. Badly.

B17C's are now D's at game start as that is historical. They had all been sent back to Seattle and rebuilt as D's.

American anti aircraft has been toned down a tad as it was ludicrously over powerful. 1.1 guns are now quite bad.

Newer Japanese destroyers have DP guns. They probably all should as the 5" guns on the US carriers are DP and the 5/25's are decent DP.
Pet peeve of mine.
*new* The american single open mount 5/38's are now isted as 5/25s as they sucked. If I was like Matrix i would just remove their AA value altogether. I did not however.

The Momis APD's are now DE's. The Minekaze class is now all APD's. This is historical; the Momi was considered too small to be an effective APD.

The KGV class battleships now has guns facing the rear.

None of the 'C' 'D' or 'E' class British light cruisers was actually an AA cruiser. The origional scenario had virtually all of them being AA cruisers. I fixed it.

The British carriers when upgraded now have aircraft ordinance.

I added 1 Yamato battleship, 2 Mogami heavy cruisers, and 8 Yugumo destryers to the build pool. Now before you allied fan boys scream yourselves hoarse, this does not mean Japan GETS one extra ship, it means they have a historical choice of what to build. Remember that a Yamato battleship on normal build will eat 20% of your shipyards all on its own. DE's might be a better choice! But, you now have a choice.
Also, the 6 Akitsukis that were started have been added to the build list.

#Allied AP's/AK's now have slighhtly less of a max load. The values in game are higher than what could historically be loaded.
They are still higher than Japans merchants#. removed for time being.

Yamashita is now commanding the 25th Army. MacArthur is no longer in charge of SWPAC unless you put him there. SOPAC and SWPAC are now reinforcements and must be moved where you need them.

Many South Pacific bases are less developed at game start.

The Japanese 55th division is short one brigade in strength now at game start.

The Aussies at Darwin are a bit weaker in ground strength due to fixed double accounting. Many early war British Empire tank units now have essentially no tanks.

2nd Marines, take 3, now start at 1/3rd strength.

The 3rd NZ division is no longer in the OOB. The 18th NZ brigade is a reinforcement in 1/42. The 5th NZ brigade is now a '45 reinforcement.

Alexander Patch again commands Americal.

Many of the changes are in the aircraft. This file is a good start.

I hope this is enjoyable. Feel free to email your questions a comments.

******************************************************************************
To install: Unzip all files except J_planeside & A_planeside to your WitP/Scen directory. Unzip both planeside files to your WITP/art folder. You will probably want to rename your old art files so they are not overwritten, but you do not have to, the game will still work.
Start game, select sceanrio 26 which is my version of scenario 15. Scenario 15 files are not overwritten, so you can still play the origioal scenario 15.

Michael Johnson
lysimachus@charter.net

Now 1.21 compatible! New! Improved!
Fiddled with Japanese air unit upgrades more... I think it is pretty much as good as you can get. I will say that the A6m8 is of very little importance now.
The way the game is set up you would have to tool up for the A6m8, convert your A6m5's and then tool up for the A7m. That is just silly. Now, 2/3rds of A6m5 upgrade to the A7m, while 1/3 upgrade to the A6m8.

All of the 1.21 upgrades are in the game.

Essex & Independence class arrival is now correct.

I would like to thank quite a few people on the Matrix boards for their ideas and work. I would especially like to thank Spooky for hosting this scenario
and many other excellent files. Also wish to thank Subchaser because without him you would not have graphics for the new aircaft!

The range of the Japanese Nell's & Betties has been reduced to remove the 900 mile torpedo attacks, while the range of the B17 & B24 has been <gulp> increased.

enjoy

***************************************************************************************************************

I have updated the scenario for use with 1.4.

There are some minor changes in aircraft values, ship upgrades etc, but there is also one large change.

Now there are advanced Mitsubishi engines available in 12/42 and advanced Nakajima engines available in 4/43.

They WILL NOT auto upgrade from you Mitsubishi & Nakajima enginess. If you want them, you will have to build them. The Advanced Mitsubishi should be slightly easier to build than the Nakajimas which is historical.
This will be EXPENSIVE so save some supply for the conversion.

Also, i think i fixed the problem with heavy bomber port and naval attack accuracy.

And with Ron & Don's help have toned down ASW.

The Ki48 starting the game is now the model 1 which is really useless, around March 42 they will auto convert their factories to Model 2 which is a bit better.

The Ki 83 is in the game for Japan. April 45.

The British gain the use of the Lucia AS ship at game start and 2 Indian Hurri 2 squadrons in '43.

I am talking with Andrew about joining my mod with his Map Mod and if we do this i will add several more British and Dutch support ships thanks to Ron S. for the research and kick for this.

There have been several Black Swan, Flower and other class escorts added to the Commonwealth forces.

All aircraft weapons mounted in the nose of an aircraft are now seperate weapon listings and slightly more accurate. The P38 is deadly now.

The Albacore and Swordfish are now both in the game.

All of the American BBs have their correct endurance now.

Japanese DDs have correct endurance.

The Chokai is in a class of its own now, with its own upgrade path.

All of the Japanese infantry divisions have had their artillery OOBs reworked to be accurate.
This will lower the combat power of most Japanese divisions.

Have fun with this and ifyou have any comments feel free to email: masonsgild@charter.net

Thanks again to 2ndACR, Ron S., Don Bowen, Tanker Ace, several others, and especially to Subchaser.

Mike

I have also completely redone the British carrier groups and their upgrade paths.

Mike

Ron,
Don't kill me! I have included the Lucia, a bunch of Black Swans, some other corvettes you mentioned, etc.

Can you give me some more info on Soemba? I have some basics plus what you sent but i vaguely remember reading that it was being refitted at the beginning of the war. Should it be a PG? a CL?

The other British etc, ships i will add in my mod including Andrew's excellent map. Because there are actually British bases that NEED a AS! How different would the Wobbly AAR be with Addu Atoll in it?

I am doing the best i can, i just wanted to get this out by New Years.

Mike

Here's my try at Soemba. Armament is pretty good, guessing and estimation on other parameters. I just used the Erie and Swan icon until I get a better one.

Thanks Don. I will add that tomorrow and include my Ki45 fix and send it off to Spooky.

Yeah, I just looked at the Ki45 arrival times, armament, etc and said WTF?
This has now been fixed as well.

No, this is the historical scenario, so the worthless barge is still in the game. There are no extra Taihos in this scenario because there are 6 Unryus foryou to play with.
There is no way in heck the Japs have enough to build all that is in their ship list unless you decides 'planes? i don't need no stinking planes!'.

I will, in a couple days have my no Yamatos mod out which will give Japan 3 BBs, 3 BCs, 3 Taihos, and some earlier PCs.
And no worthless barge.

Ah, but the key is that it gives the player the choice. They just have to make some hard choices. 2 Shokaku vs 4 Unryu's

I can live with the Yamato and Musashi. It is the Shinano I hate. Smelt that sucker down and give me my extra Shokaku or 2!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want it, I want it, I want it.

Now picture me jumping up and down throwing a temper tantrum.

Mikes WitP scenario 15 mod notes.

A6M2's now upgrade to A6M3's. There was NO reason for them not to upgrade. The A6M2 was removed from front line service in October '42.

Mike,

Are you sure about this one??? Though I don't have anything totally authorative on actual factory outputs, my sources do state that Mitsubishi manufactured all 903 examples of the A6M3 variants between early 1942 and mid 1943.

Nakajima had the capacity to produce approximately equal numbers of the A6M5 to Mitsubishi after August 1943 (3500 of 6000) but produced over three times the number of A6M2 aircraft (2628 vs Mitsubishi's 804). To me, this indicates that Nakajima continued production of the A6M2 until changing over to the A6M5 in mid 1943 even after Mitsubishi had changed production over to the A6M3 variants.

A blanket statement to say that the A6M2 was removed from front line service in October '42 may not be totally accurate as production of the type was still in full swing. However, I will acknowledge that frontline units would be given priority on the limited numbers of the higher performance A6M3 which were available.

I hope you find this useful,

I have a question on the addition of the 20mm on the Soemba. Sources I have found on the web indicate that these were added later and not in the beginning of the war. Do you know when they were added? I would say either in Bombay before leaveing to the Med in December 42 or in Portsmouth in March 44.

The Lucia was an old British ship converted to an AS before the war. It starts in Ceylon.

The Black Swan is a work in progress, its stats are virtually identical to the Hunt II that was already in the game.
I added the Indus/Swan class, Godavari, Jumna, Narbada, Sutlej, Cauvery, and Kistna, all Black Swans. The Avon, Awe, Derg, Findhorn, Parret, Plym, Spey, Swale, Teviot, and Trent, all River class. I addedseveral Bangors and Bathursts. I added the Barcoo, Burdekin, Diamentia, Gascoyne, Hawkesbury, Lachlan all River class. I added the Arabis & Arbutus both Flower class RNZN.

On the A6m2/A6m3 contraversy, you have to remember that the last 864 officially built A6m2's were trainers and float fighters not standard A6m2's. That does still leave overlap but according to internal Mitsubishi documents they were ordered in October '42 to replace all frontline A6m2's with A6m3's.

I kinda like this. It would allow Midway to be knocked down to a reasonable size 4 airfield, and put the airfield at Noumea back into the game.

Yeah, i did knock Midway down a bit so no more 300 plane Midways.

The Soemba questions all have to be directed to Don Bowen as my info on her was sketchy.

Elf: Thanks, I was working on get out the vote campaigns, education work etc.

That screen shot was from a new scenario that is being developed by a number of us on the Forum. There's a thread with some more data in the Scenario Design / Game Editor section of the forum (called Ron Saueracker/Tankerace/Don Bowen's Mod ). There'll be about 100 new classes (or more) in this scenario.

I'd guess you are right on the "added during war". I worked up the armament from an excellent on-line site:
http://www.netherlandsnavy.nl/

Both of this site and Conway just say "added during war" and I have no additional information. I simply set Soemba to this armament so I would not have to provide an upgrade class. Considering her withdrawal in 1942 it would be equally correct, perhaps even more correct, to leave her with her pre-war armament (same except no 20mm).
