I searched and searched but I didn't see any posing this question. There are a thousand topics on FOW. There is an option to turn off operational fog of war, but you can't change the fog of war for actual combat reports. I'd rather have the the option to toggle off FoW for combat results and not know where my enemy is. I think both should be toggleable. This is my biggest complaint about this game right now. The damn combat reports are annoying having to divide by 2 or 3 to estimate what you really did. YES his was a big part of historical problems of leading... pilots over estimating their kills. Fine. I'd rather know what is happening in terms of actual battles. Its hard to know how things are really behaving when everything is an estimate. I'd like to play all the way through once without this type of FOW and then I would know how things really intereact.

I don't see that this would be terribly difficult to implement. Instead of displaying bogus information, it just shows actual results (which are calculated and recorded anyway by the game). It would just be a matter of changing what the database displays as a result. I don't know, maybe I'm the only one that feels this way.

I love this game though. I just don't like some of the abstractions that occur.

No way to turn this off. Even with FOW = OFF, you are going to get this, and AFAIK there is no way around it.

EDIT - you can get some more accurate info by going to the Intel screen and looking at a/c losses for that day.

Yes I know you can look at ops reports and intel screens, but its hard to know what battles those losses relate to. Plus it only gives kills, more often then not the important information lies in the number of damaged planes and # of hits on a ship (so you can estimate damage done).

I guess I'll never see this option because no one else really seems to think its important. I don't know why, but it really bothers me.

Personally, my problem is just the opposite (see my thread in the Support forum) -- I don't think there's enough FOW in the combat results, particularly where submarines are concerned. A sub captain will usually be able to at least determine the class of ship he's targeting, but there's no way on earth to know (a) who just fired that torpedo at you, or (b) which of several escorts is dropping those depth charges.

Given the understanding that there are limits to what you can do with software without requiring a server farm in every living room, I want things to be as realistic as possible, and fog of war should be one of the easiest to implement.

It also helps to remember that you're not playing the role of the pilot, or even the squadron commander, but the guy in the high-backed chair in some reasonably comfortable office well removed from the fighting.
