Been playing around with writing memos on the map of my utility.

"M" indicates a hex for which a memo has been entered.

Mouse-over a hex with a memo and it'll pop-up tool-tip fashion while you stay over the hex, then disppear when you move off the hex.

F1 is the hot-key to enter a memo for the hex under the cursor, or edit the memo if one exists.

F6 will delete any memo for the hex under the cursor.

Display of hex memos can be switched on/off via the Options-2 tab, and the colour of the text and background can also be edited (but will default back to the original colours next time the window opens).

Still a few bits of tidying up to do, but this is basically working and should be in the next utility update.

As you can see, the cursor disappeared from some of the screenshots so I tried a screen-capture program, instead of Print-Screen, and the pop-up hex memos disappeared.

Wow....that is insanely cool. Plus the extra "u" in "colour" makes me feel like a true multilateralist.

Bodhi...is it possible to set the default background color to an approximation of the deep water color? I suspect these windows won't follow TF's around upon game save or turn execution?

As usual, a grand idea for a kick ass toolset

Can the"memo's" 'M' be
a) individually deleted ?
b) moved to a new location without re-typing the text from turn to turn
c) multiple copied and dropped in multiple locations ?

Also, I dropped you PM with another idea regarding a morning briefing summary that could be another sweet addition if its not too much of a pain.

Great work Bodhi !

Bodhi, you are indeed a master at this - I'd never even thought such a thing could be done - wow!

A brilliant way to keep my ideas that too often fade from my memory between turns - indeed often during turns!

That is the original screwy UK spelling!

The history to our wonderful spelling is that the original printers who came over came from Holland - so these Dutch guys were wandering around trying to make sense of how to spell English words that had never been written down before - and they ended up spelling them the way they thought they would be if it was Dutch.... hence the messiness of the 'correct' spelling!

Then you lot came along and applied some logic to it all.

Cheers

Roger

Good to see that it's not only me that will find this useful, and thanks for the kind comments from all.

A few answers:

When?
Soon. I did have a couple of other things I wanted to add (including trying Leo's arrows for task force directions) but thanks to Scott (scout1) coming up with another great idea, I think I'll keep them for a later version. All that's left is to save the memos to disk and re-read them when the game is loaded. I don't forsee a problem there - famous last words. Hope to try that tonight - but that'll be tomorrow for most of the people reading this.

Spelling
Too old to change. If it wasn't for code completion/intellisense I don't think any program I write would ever work.

Text background
It was originally transparent. Looked great when the text appeared over the sea, but was very tough to read for me when it overlaid land of other islands. Tried a variety of text colours but found nothing that worked well in all situtations. As a result I added the ability for the user to select the colours themselves. I could still add an option to make the background transparent.

'M' handling
a) Individual deletion - yes. Group deletion - no, but can be toggled off.
b) Copying. Sort of - you'd have to go to the location you want to move. Hit F1, Ctrl-C to copy the text, use the delete button to delete the memo for that hex, cursor to the new hex, hit F-1 then Ctrl-V to past the text, and click the OK button.
c) Multiple copies - as above, Ctrl-C the first memo text before saving, then move to each location, F-1, Ctrl-V to copy the text, and OK to save.

Memos following task forces
Just a reminder these memos are only displayed on the report map in my utility, not on the main game map. I have no way of knowing the location of TFs, so no way of deciding where to place the memo. The memos are actually linked to a hex location rather than anything else, so wil always appear at that location.

I should have added that if anyone's willing to do a quick check on the next version before I post it, send me your email address by PM or email and I'll send you the URL of the test version as soon as it's ready.

Sure, set me up as the hold up for Leo's idea. And after he was kind enough to upgrade his test scenario's for me to experiement with some statisitical analysis of certain game results, you hang me out for holding his idea up .............

Sorry, Leo, I'll try to contain my future idea's until AFTER Bodhi posts an update
The arrow idea is a nice one, willbe looking forward to it. Bodhi, one idea relative to TF speed, how about just burying in the speed value into the arrow itself.

And now that I think of it, you know the idea that we were talking about would eventually need to be hotlinked to your map.

BTW, what was it you suggested Scott (I must have mised it somehow ) and what "Bodhi" described as great idea?

Using the very latest version of the utility I am finding that the tracking is not reporting anything for the last 15 days, yet I know that some of the ships I am attempting to track have much to be reported upon?

Roger can you send me the com_asigint.txt, com_jsigint.txt, com_operationsreport.txt, com_combatreport.txt and JTA.dat or ATA.dat files from the SAVE/XXX folder of the main WitP directory (where XXX is the game save slot) and I'll take a look. A hint as to which data you think isn't being shown would also help.

Bodhi,

Watching a 001 file, at the end it will tell you that a base has increased in size to a level 4 AF or Port etc and this is recorded in the Ops report. Your utility has a Base screen that shows the starting size and the SPS (max?) size for each base. Is it possible to update that screen with the actual size according to what the Operations report puts out?
