I have a couple of big japanese armies in china at Sian and Homan. They are trying to take the cities. Right now they seem to be stuck there. Any attmept to get them to march to another hex (even friendly out of enemy zoc) results in re-setting to defensive mode the next turn. Don't see any supply/disruption/support problem. Also occassionally a unit or two launches a shock attack without orders. Anything I'm missing here? seems to be new with version 1.60.

thanks;

Bob

You can unstick them by setting a Japanese base (in China) as their destination...

It is my miserable experience that one cannot do much of ANYTHING in China as the Japanese. I've tried bombardment and engineer attacks, deliberate attacks followed by rest, shock attacks followed by rest...all with NO result! I am attacking Yenen with 225,000 troops vs 1/4 that and cannot do anything.

My advice is to fall back and let the Chinese Hordes take it all!

Actually I had success early. Took Yenen, Langcow, Kungchen. But I'm not sure I can do much more. I want Homan and Sian so clear the rail and supply lines.

It's not wise to attack frontally the big cities. Go for flanking. Use 100,000 men to siege the city and the with the rest go for his flanks. When the city will be cut off from any supply route it will be just a matter of time: it will fall

I think this is what the Japanese found when they tried to take China.

ABSOLUTELY NOT, that is the worst approach you can take in china. Believe me I tried that approach and now I have 100K of Chinese trapped in wuchow, and NO WAY of finishing them of. They are out of supply for 4 months or so now, but every time I attack them (zero fortifications) I get a 30/1 or so result with 3-6K casualties on my side and 1200 or so casualties on the Chinese side. If the Chinese can not retreat, they are almost indestructible.. So best choice, cut them of, but leave them a SINGLE hex to retreat to, I know this is a LOT of work (3 more hexes to occupy), but when the Chinese have been driven out of the city, you can finish them of a WHOLE lot easier then with a simple encirclement....

I'm not with you here. If you go for China, you go for Victory points. And to do so you need to destroy units. In my last match i managed to capture Chungking with 200,000 chinese in and they all went POWs...i know it takes a lot of time, but it works if you are patient
