On December 21st the British launched a successful attack on the Zuhio near Sinkep Island. Despite their snazzy paint jobs the Claudes flying CAP were unable to protect her, and 5 bomb hits were scored including a 500 pounder into the ammo storage by a Stringbag.

2nd Malaya Brigade stops by to help the Mersing garrison and the Imperial Japanese Army gets a real bloody nose. We need a success once in a while to keep our spirits up.

Perhaps against better judgement, the Japanese press ahead with their invasion of Kendari....and tangle with Adm Smith's Light Cruiser TF, which has doubled back on Kendari despite depleted torpedoes on many vessels. In a night gun battle, 5 Japanese DD's (the Natari has apparently been detached b/o previous damage) score a 3:1 ratio in hits but are overwhelmed by the weight of Allied gunfire and the armor of the Allied cruisers. When the Jap Dd's are forced to withdraw, the transport force is hammered by Adm Smith's TF. After the failure of the attack, the airfield at Kendari has been repopulated with Dutch and American aircraft. There is sure to be a slaughter when the sun comes up, weather pemitting.
