Since when did the Japanese surplus in AK's reach the point that they could convert numerous ships to refrigerator type to be able to ship 200 ton of fresh raw fish?? [&o][&o]

-Since Nikīs submarine force became unable to sink my merchant ships (I fear it will change latter). Well, I donīt how USA submarines performed in the second half of 1942, but in our game, they arenīt exactly the most useful units. Nikīs subs sank one AK and damaged 2 TKīs for the loss of 1 sub. I sank 1 AK and one DD for the loss of 2 subs. However, it should be noticed that I put strong emphasis on sushi and sake supplies. They help to increase the morale of our warriors.

-Good idea, a convoy will depart Tokyo to take these ones to the most remote areas of the Greater co prosperity sphere

ny59giants -> RE: Lae (3/17/2006 6:28:35 PM)

Unfortunately, in my recently started first PBEM with non-historical first turn, he placed KB off of Manila and did serious damage to my sub fleet and all 3 AS's. Now those survivors are trying to escape and make it to a freindly port to get float damage down.
If he is not using his subs to attack your AP/AK, then he is probably minelaying or transporting troops out of by-passed bases.

I served 4 years on USS Canopus AS-34, thus I am partial to my subs. They will be back to help wreck the Japanese economy in good time...[:D]

Nikademus -> RE: Lae (3/17/2006 9:28:31 PM)

I've done very little with my subs thus far given the high dud rates. That will change however. [;)]

Bombur -> Lae again.... (3/18/2006 2:20:27 AM)

-The Zuikaku guys suffered an unexpected setbak in the last two days, losing 2 planes to obsolete RAAF fighters. No pilots were lost in combat but one of them was so ashamed that he commited sepukku a few hours after the combat. The attacks resulted in few damage, but our sake depot was again hit, with bad results to the morale with our troops. The army leadership is putting more pressure on the Navy for an all out offensive to drive the allies out of Port Moresby. They argued that the sporadic bombardment missions have no purpose but to waste the precious fuel reserves of the empire in exchange for nothing!!!

Nikademus -> RE: Lae again.... (3/18/2006 3:37:55 AM)

oh yeah....NO. 76 RAAF Ozzers flying Kittyhawks spank the Zuikaku boyeeeez. Lae blasted back to rice age. The B-17 lost to Zeros was in fact an operational loss because the pilot extended the landing gear while heading for the deck. Japanese celebrate...they now have shot down a grand total of 3. ppfffffff. More will return!

Air operations continue in Burma. the RAF has shown complete dominance so far while showing the fledgling USAAF boys the ropes. The B-25 Mitchell is proving to be a popular bomber. Easy to fly and well protected and armed.

Bombur -> Good and bad news.... (3/18/2006 4:52:16 AM)

First the bad news: The JAAF CinC is seriously worried about the sharp deterioration of Ki-43 performance. In the last two days, fierce battles over Canton, against the AVG, resulted in the loss of 11 Ki-43īs, while only one P-40 went down. This came as a bad surpise to the Japanese, as the mercenaries were considered to be in bad shape after the last confrontations.
Good news: The first real combat seen by regular Ki-44 units was considered a big success. In two days the 50th Sentai shot down no less than 9 P-40Bīs (from the AVG) and one SB-2, while losing only four planes (however, all the four pilots were killed or seriously wounded). Meanwhile, the Zuikaku guys added more 4 P-40īs to their victims, losing two planes and no pilots. A request for an increase in the Ki-44 production to 100/month was made by the JAAF.
In other news: Chinese troops were seen moving to Canton. A major land battle is to happen.

Nikademus -> RE: Good and bad news.... (3/18/2006 5:36:41 AM)

Looked to me like the Ki-43's got 3 of the P40's (along with a number of bullet strikes)

AVG was suprised to see a new fighter plane type over Canton.....faster, better armed and protected than the Army type 0. However claims for 28 enemy fighters were submitted and confirmed so....no problem [:)]

-To me it looked it was only 1 P-40 (out of sync?). The kill numbers for the Tojos show 9 victories, as they also shot down a SB-2, final results are 8 P-40īs plus one SB-2 for Tojos and 2 P-40īs for Oscars. Total planes lost to A2A over Canton were 11 Ki-43, 4 Tojos, 10 P-40īs and 1 SB-2. Your 28 kills werenīt actually so overestimated[:D]

Bombur -> The end of AVG (3/19/2006 6:07:29 AM)

-Two days of heavy air combat over China and New Guinea costed the allies more than 40 planes, almost all in air combat. The new Ki-44 is proving to be vastly superior to the P-40īs flown by USA mercenaries (I actually contacted Nik on private mentioning that the Tojoīs results are too good, maybe high altitude is an issue???), while the Oscar seems to be useful only to be used as a target to allow the Ki-44īs jump on the P-40īs (something similar happened with the I-16īs in the offensive against Kunming). The Zuikaku boys also added more ten air victories to their records. Even in Moulmein, Oscars were able to shot down one B-25C. Japanese losses amount to 21 aircraft, 13 lost in air to air combat (including 9 Oscars, 3 Zeros and 1 Tojo). Three Zeroes, however, were destroyed in the ground, in Lae.

Nikademus -> RE: The end of AVG (3/19/2006 9:37:15 PM)

Chennault was reportedly unhappy with the 1.75:1 exchange rate being traded over Canton thx in large part to the appearance of the new fighter plane which appears able to take hits much better than the typical japanese fighters being engaged. Despite the heavy losses and slightly unfavorable exchange rate, the AVG is still intact with 50 pilots still on the roster, a mixture of elite veterans and still slightly green up and comings. A request was put in to Washington for newer and more powerful P40E fighters. Its felt that the increased firepower of the E varient will help turn the tide against the new enemy fighter plane.

In New Guneau, veteran enemy pilots in Type 0 aircraft continue to give trouble for the green pilots of no's 75 and 76 squadrons. They are protecting the bombers but at heavy cost. Action plans are being studied to rememdy this situation

Bombur -> A pause... (3/19/2006 10:29:12 PM)

.......both in China and New Guinea. The imperialists are licking their wounds from the last two days. Meanwhile, Ki-21īs reported slight fighter opposition over Sian, however, the slower enemy fighters had some trouble in catching up with our bombers.

Bombur -> Strange ships entering harbour.... (3/22/2006 4:14:27 AM)

No combat for today, however, Japanese recon planes noticed light surface units entering PM harbour. That finding resulted in some controversy among Japanese Naval leaders

1-Yamaguchi-Letīs send Kido Butai to sink them
2-Nagumo-No, itīs probably a trap, they want to "Midway" us, probably there will be Carriers in the vicinity, ready to take us by surprise before we can launch
3-Tanaka-No need to use KB. With a few DDīs and our Long Lance torpedoes, we can defeat them easily
4-Yamamoto-Isnīt only another run by the Washington express?
5-Tanaka, Yamaguchi and Nagumo- What is Washington express?

Speedysteve -> RE: Strange ships entering harbour.... (3/22/2006 6:17:15 PM)

Fulmar - Light up a fag and relax while your mount gets lit up.

Zero's are irrelevant

Bombur -> Who needs Ki-44īs? (3/24/2006 4:23:52 AM)

....said COL Ogawa, commander of the 77th Sentai, based in Mandalay, after his planes shot down 15 P-40īs with the loss of only 4 Oscars in the one of the biggest air raids seen over Mandalay. His squadron also claimed one B-25. Overall losses for the allies were close to 30, against 10 for Japan. Meanwhile, planes based on Haiphong attack the Nanning airfield again. The retreat of the already mentioned surface units from PM points to another Washighton express run.

Nikademus -> RE: Who needs Ki-44īs? (3/24/2006 5:50:06 AM)

HEY! Oscars are only supposed to work well when I'M commanding them. Otherwise they are designed to be crap.

[:@]

damn 64th Sentai......added to the LIST

Bombur -> I-16īs (3/25/2006 4:56:15 PM)

-Actually, Nik is an Oscar fanboy[:D], many of the changes he did in his mod had the objective of improving the plane. I think it worked well, however, the Oscar have a somewhat irregular performance, sometimes they each P-40īs for lunch, in other occasions, they are shot down like flies. Overall, the Oscar performance is more realistic than in the stock scenario.
-Btw, did the Oscar have defective propellers too???

Nikademus -> RE: I-16īs (3/26/2006 7:20:57 PM)

There's a lot of variability built into the game's engine. Its nice to see the Falcon preforming like a fighter if nothing else.

Bombur -> Zeroes again (3/26/2006 8:37:58 PM)

Agressive sweeps by the Zuikaku air group, over PM, resulted in 26 obsolete enemy fighters being shot down, in exchange for 6 A6M2. The loss of experienced pilots was, however, a big blow to the EII-B Daitai.
