Rob: I think I will turn my focus into Marcus Island once I get Wake Island under my control. It might take sometime though as you can see from combat report below. I also would like to continue my push in Aleutians too.

Ron: I'am still very much fan of multiday turns. Yeah, you cannot plan as good, every mistake will cost much more than in 1 day turns and unexpected things will happen but the game speed is good. Also I guess every war is somekind of an chaos if you look them closely. [:)]

Here is a an quick update from last turn.

Unfortunately I was not able to find any major enemy warships in the area. What I did find was a refuelling TF and that was wiped out.

Some of the US BB's did bombard Wake Island last turn and the results where disappointing to say at least.

The ground combat progress stalled at Wake Island. Due to high distrubtion, fatigue and "low" supplies.

Ground combat at Wake Island

Allied Deliberate attack

Additional ground combat units are loading at Midway as we speak.

The bad news is that I have move my CV's into Midway too. These ships are low on fuel and need replenish. Once this is done they will join action again immediately.

Allied submarines also managed to torpedo 2 AK's. 1 AR and 1 DD. Not bad result.

Rob Brennan UK -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (10/27/2006 6:17:03 PM)

Rest up on midway imo, dont land any more either untill you get the disruption down a long way. BB's will only hit support personell anyway so they wont help much in reducing the CV of the japanese forces afaik.

good luck as ever

aztez -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (10/29/2006 10:34:07 AM)

Cheers Rob! [:)] ...I did actually send some more troops in since the supply levels were not good at all. Anyway, these have failed to make any progress at Wake Island though.

Next turn my CV's will move further up into north. Dave has quite substantial airforce present at Marcus Island. This will be dealt with swifly.

As said the ground troops at Wake Island failed make anykind of progress. (Need to rest them more)

Myithkina and Sian were bomberd elsewhere.

I did manage to hit 3 enemy submarines lurking between Wake and Midway. Hopefully those boats will be toasted.

Here is an update from last turns action:

First off the all clever Witp AI seems to have started revolution againts me.

An couple weeks I send 2 transport TF from SF to Pearl Harbour. Well I got the last turns combat replay back and noticed that Dave is bombing one of my TF's to the bottom of the sea. I checked and sure enough AI had hijacked those 2 Tranport TF and send off the coast of Tokyo! The "funny" thing was that their destination said SF and they were sailing even further into enemy territory! [X(][:(][:@][:@]

Oh well just another feature a'la Witp AI.

There were some normal action too in last turn.

Dave really did put up an fight at Wake. Overall this battle was bloody. I did loose bunch of transport shipping while he did loose some of his CV assets.

I'am now moving more troops into Wake Island. Hopefully it will become operational shortly.

As for the next landing... well it depends. Marcus Island has 9 enemy units present so I need to regroup my forces if I choose to go there. Other idea is to bypass the place and land in Marianas.

At India/Burma I have ordered an larger airstrike againts Bangkok next turn. Some 100 4E bombers escorded by some 100 allied longrange fighters. Hopefully this will be coordinated strike.

At Aleutians I will start bomb Attu Island as soon as weather clears.

Also an airstrike is scheduled againts Wuchow in China.

Dave also has some 80 ships at Kwaleijin so I might be tempted to do an CV raid there too if he does not move these ships out. That pretty much would isolate large number of enemy troops in the region.

This PBEM is heating up nicely. [:)]

Rob Brennan UK -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (11/3/2006 3:05:28 PM)

AK's heading to Tokyo , how bizarre . fortunately never seen this kind of thing before was it a CS convoy? or a regular one ? I tend not to bother with CS ones as i like to know what my merchtmen are doing most of the time. With 3 day turns though a CS would in theory be more efficient.

Grats on wake, lets see how long it takes to get the B^$%$%%s to surrender. Hopefully faster than my experince at Attu [;)]

aztez -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (11/3/2006 6:25:24 PM)

It was actually 2 separate normal troop transport TF's. Both of them were set to sail from SF to Pearl Harbour until AI hijacked them. When I looked at them near Tokya the destination said SF and so did the "home harbour".

Luckily the more important TF was sailing slower so it was not hit. I have now redirected that one to Wake Island. The other TF was hit hard by IJA Lba. We actually agreed on an ceasefire there so that the remains of that big TF could escape.

Felt a bit frustrated but did not suprise me one bit though since Witp has it "flaws".

Thanx! Wake Island is actually important in this PBEM since I do not intend to go through Gilbert's and Marianas. (Too well fortified and way too many atolls.....)

[:D][:D] ....Well I think Dave is not about to surrender just yet since he does have the upperhand despite recent developments. But once I get Wake Island operational he will have something to worry about definately! [;)]

He also has fortified the Kuriles and some of his bases at Aleutians. (Kiska and Attu) I propably will go through them one by one when the time is right.

Those are some stubborn Japanese in your PBEM! [:D][:D]

Rob Brennan UK -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (11/3/2006 7:58:09 PM)

hehe , yeah they sure are ! what is it now 3 months ? no supply no retreat and still no surrender [:@]. hope you have better luck at wake [;)].

and troops convoys heading to tokyo scares me silly ! .. were they full ? Glad your opponent was reasonable about that, seems like a nice bloke [:D]

Lets hope so. I do have experienced the stubbornes of Japanese ground troops in my other PBEM vs FDR. (Especially in Atolls they seem twice as stubborn) Hmpf, It took some time to clear Dutch Harbour earlier vs Dave too! [:(] However more ground troops are heading into Wake Island so hopefully those IJA soldiers will surrender soon.

It scared me too! [8|] The TF was that got hit had 2 USCM Armour + 1 Base force + 1 RCT unit on it (If I remember correctly off hand). It also had +100 000 supplies loaded too. I think 2/3 of the TF will be lost before these ships reach safety.

The other had 1 US Division + Aviatiaon unit and huge amount of supplies loaded. Thank god these ships sailed much slower or it would have been total disaster. I mean it was bad as it was already! [8|] Lesson learned ----> You really can't trust AI even when you are doing all the things yourself!

Luckily Dave is a very nice person. This is a second time something bizarre happened. (The Dutch Harbour teleportation was the first one).

We will ignore any autovictory conditions and push forward with this PBEM! [:)]

Dave has launched Betty strikes againts transport TF's around Wake. (This is not good since at the moment I'am unable to provide proper CAP) Well, I did move 1 Corairs squadron to Wake but the airfield is still heavily damaged so I doubt these planes will take off.

At Aleutians the bad weather continues thus preventing my airstrikes againts Attu base.

Rob, Those SeaBee units have left Pearl Harbour and are heading towards Wake Island as we speak.

I have some good news coming from Wake Island. It seems that Japanese are about to surrender. So, that means that phase 1 of this operation is soon completed.

Yeah, attrition is allied best friend! [:D][:)]

A few allied transport ships were hit though. Next turn the CAP has been bolstered significantly. Also some 100 US 4E bombers are set on naval strike just in case Dave deciedes to bring in the cavalry.

US & RN CV's are resting at Midway. 2 US CVE's will head out to Pearl Harbour for repairs. These ships will be out for months.

Kweilin was hit as scheduled but unfortunately Dave had no ac's stationed there.

Allied intel indicates that those ships that were at Kwaleijin (+100 ) have now left the harbour. Destination is unknown currently.

Aleutians are still under bad weather so bombing runs were canceled once more.

21st Division Wiped Out at Wake Island by attrition!!!

I have plenty of supplies in Wake now but I do lack fuel. Now the immediate concern is to bring in fuel so that Wake can serve as forward station for my CV's. Once this has been established I will use my CV's aggressively! [;)]

The airfield at Wake is operational and thus Marcus Island has been bombed.

Dave seems to be reinforcing the base. That is quite ok since I intend to blast it to stoneage. Either it will become large POW camp (If I deciede to bypass the base) or one huge "Alamo" for the IJA/IJN. Currently 13 enemy untis present there.

I'am not quite ready to start an invasion yet. I need to rest and rebuild my main divisions in the area.

Dave seems also shifting ships at Kwaleijin and Truk. Too bad I cannot do an deep CV raids at the moment.

RAF continues to bomb Tavoy and Myithkina bases in Burma. No ground offensives scheduled yet.

Lucky git ! [:'(]

aztez -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (11/27/2006 9:30:14 PM)

We have now reached mid May 1944.

There has not been any amphibitious landings by allied side since the capture of Wake Island.

KB was raiding shipping lanes near West Coast just couple turns ago. I wohn't send US Fleet after them since they have more important things to do. That operation was not a success either since Dave found just 2 minor troop transport TF heading towards Pearl Harbour.

US LBA bombers have been hitting Marcus Island daily supported by couple US BB TF. Dave has kept bringing in more troops with his AGP's. Currently 21 units there allthough I doubt they are well supplied though.

US and British CV's have raided the seas around Wake Island and last turn they struck againts Saipan. Nearly 300 enemy aircraft and pilots were lost last turn.

I'am currently using Marcus Island as an staging point for my future operations. There are 3 possibilities were hammer will fall. 1) Marcus Island 2) Iwo Jima or 3) One of the bases in Marianas. This will be decieded soon enough.

The 1st B29 of the war was launched againts Manila harbour. It was costly but BB Musashi and BB Yamamoto were struck with couple of hits. I doubt they were seriously hit though.

In Aleutians I will soon land at Amchitka island. Slowly making way towards the Japanese home islands.

Submarine warfare has been costly for both sides. Quite a few AK's and TK's have been hit near Japan but Japanese ASW have been efficient too.

I will start my offensive at Burma soon. Some troops are actually marching towards Myithkina as we speak but this will not be the main thrust. RAF will support these operations naturally.

These are the latest developments of the war.

Nice to see an update matey.

Life has been busy i'm guessing .. toddler troubles [;)]. Personally go for marcus then iwo .. time isnt your friend here .. OR draw it out a bit for more fun and just invade where japan isn't [;)]

aztez -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (11/28/2006 6:48:50 AM)

Yeah. I have been busy lately with toddler activities too. [:D][:D][:-] ...there actually will be another "toddler" coming in late May or early June. Otherwise new job is taking its toll too but life is going along smoothly in general.

Hmpf. Marcus is the first choice for me too than Iwo since in most likely I will bypass the whole Marianas. I don't see any point invading them since my pinzer movement is directed toward Japan itself. Just need to be careful when leaving a large amount of enemy troops behind my own frontline (Marianas, Truk, Marshalls, Gilberts, etc).

aztez -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (12/7/2006 7:37:19 PM)

This game is temporarily on hold.

It seems that Erstad (Dave) has lost some of his pilots due to bug we have encountered.

I did also notice some of allied squadrons in weakened strenghts. Those squadrons were not engaged in action instead they were training/resting behind frontlines. However this was not a significant to me since I have kept my substantial reserves for future actions.

Hopefully we get this game ongoing soon.

As for the other PBEM vs FDR. It is also on hold at the moment. FDR is still very busy IRL but hopefully we get that PBEM ongoing soon too.

sorry to hear about the game ..

BUT .. have to say 'congratulations' for baby no2 [:D].. you must like sleepless night and smelly nappies [;)]

Quick update to the people following this AAR.

We are still waiting for the verdict on the lost pilot issue. If the developing team is unable to find resolution to it than we will continue where we left off.

aztez -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (2/10/2007 7:17:25 PM)

I just recieved a word from Dave. The issue is sorted and the action will commence.

(I have totally forgotten what I had planned or what I had ongoing in this PBEM! [:(] ...Need to sort this out)

aztez -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (3/10/2007 3:21:55 PM)

Ok. This game is officially on the road again just send a turn back to Dave.

Oh, boy I had forgotten all the plans I had, etc.

I had a long look at the game and made few notes.

A) Marshall's is well defended.
B) Dave has substantial garrison levels at North Pacific.
C) Marianas are decently defended.
D) He is going to fight out Burma theatre.
E) There is still the blockade to OZ in place.
F) He still controls Solomons and South Pacific with sizeable garrisons.

...and the conclusion is that I'am getting my butt kicked throughly so I'am going to play all or nothing.

The plan is to invaded Iwo Jima!!! This means bypassing the Marcus Island and grabbing Iwo Jima quickly with force. This seems the only decent thing to do.

I will also move ahead in the North Pacific as well as in Burma.

The idea is also to slowly start moving ahead through Solomons. (The supply levels is preventing this operation in grand scale.)

Here is the picture of the planned target...

Taking all these

aztez -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (3/11/2007 1:35:53 PM)

Game date is 9th of May 1944

I will not go into detailed combat reports since most of the action has been LBA bombings all around the map.

Instead I will give a view what is ongoing and what operations are about to start.

Operation Flag
Objective: Capture of the Iwo Jima base near Japanese home islands.
Status: The operation is underway. The transports ships and CV's are enroute to Iwo Jima.

Operation Whirlwind
Objective: The liberation of Burma, Malaya and Thailand.
Status: The first steps of this operation is underway. Some allied units will reach Myithkina soon. RAF has also started heavily supporting this operation.

Operation Liberty:
Objective: The removal of enemy troops from Northern Oz.
Status: The first phase of this operation has begun. Aussie troops are marching towards Derby.

Operation Flame:
Objective: To gain an airfields in North Pacific from which I can start to bomb Japanese industry.
Status: The operation has not begun yet.

Operation Torch:
Objective: The removal of enemy at New Caledonia.
Status: This operation will commence shortly.

Here is what is brewing at the moment. I have mountain to climb though since Dave have played an excellent game.

welcome back !

Good to be back. Allthough this PBEM will be struggle all the way.

Well, as said I will go gung ho with this one from now on. Nothing to loose since I guess I have already actually lost the war! [8|]

So, lets see whether I can take Iwo Jima... (I'am not too certain I can hold onto it though)

What I will do IF I manage to capture the base is to place large amount of fighters there and have 2 BB TF there in order to deal with anykind of enemy amphibitious operation or naval bombardments.

It will be one hell of an mess that is for sure. I know I should propably capture Marcus Island first but it will take too long to do so... that is why I decieded to go all or nothing style.

I will start operations in pretty much every theatre of operations soon. If I'am going to loose than I want to do it in style! [:-]

Rob Brennan UK -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (3/11/2007 9:00:34 PM)

ROFL , thats the spirit ! .. so long as its fun .. thats my motto [:D]

aztez -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (3/11/2007 9:07:43 PM)

[:D] ...Yeah! That how I see this one too...!

The best way I see achieving this is to make him react and commit his forces. I have plenty of aircraft in which to duel him... decent amount of CV's... what I lack is ground units and transport shipping.

Anyway, time to give him a ride for his his money from now on.

In best case scenario these assaults will make Marshalls + Truk one hell of an POW camp! [:-]

I need to assess the situation at China... it looks bad but maybe ... just maybe I can make a good push there too!

aztez -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (3/11/2007 9:34:27 PM)

Here is the situation near Iwo Jima.

Also I have given green light on the operations at North Pacific. Amphibitous fleet will link up at Dutch Harbour. (I will land at the enemy base just South of Parashimo Jima) That will give me an level 4 airfield near enemy home islands.

Aussie troops are nearing Derby. Another Aussie army have been given orders to start moving towards Darwin.

Myithkina will be reached next turn so the battle begins there. I will start planning a massive british invasion soon once I got the transportation sorted out.

Noumea invasion fleet is about to start loading troops at Sydney.

Sardaukar -> RE: KB hit hard at Wake Island... The allied push continues. (3/12/2007 12:16:47 PM)

Hmmm..I think if you land so close to Home Islands in 1944 you trigger Kamikazes. But in any case they are not too far away anyhow...
