Khornish -> Where's my money going? (1/20/2006 1:56:50 AM)

I've got a positive cash flow but I'm losing my accumulated wealth quickly and I can't find out why.

I've 0% waste my stated income exceeds by stated expenditures by several hundred, but I'm losing money each turn.

The amount I lose varies between 20 to a few hundred money.

I'm not spending any money on improvements or new construction.

So, my question is, are all the costs related to maintaining my nation and my military listed in the economic information under the economic info tab and the economy advisor?

I hadn't noticed this in my previous games, but I sure noticed it now. I was saving cash for a major push into Turkey and my money is just gone.

what you may be seeing, is the ecc page, shows a projection of what you should make, but in the game other things can happen to change that

another ship may of moved into the area your merch is at, and has cut the income, you may have enemy troops in one of your provinces that is cutting the income from that province, bad weather

one thing that may help, make sure you don't have any depots running that you don't really need

what is your tax level, I try to keep mine at 15 for as long as I can, then when in trouble, move it up a little

when stuff like this happens, it can be HARD to find out why

My tax rate is 25% and I maintain that through luxury consumption.

I have no merchants at sea, GB has been at war with me for 10 straight years (I'm Austria) and I've never been able to leave port with my merchants due to the British fleet offshore.

The projeted net income is in excess of 500 money per turn.

have you looked at the ecc section (just under the map) it should show a detail list of what all is going on

trade routes may be blocked, lost, but still being figured in

do you have depots/troops in other nations ?, that can cost more then what it should normally cost if you in your own land

do you have LARGE armies all based in one province, that can cost more

with out seeing it, it is HARD to say what maybe going on

Pardon a silly question, but is it winter? Winter will cause you to take a hit in resources across the board, even in sunny Cyrenacia.

No it is not winter, and I do not have enemy armies in my provinces nor do I have an excess of depots.

The problem seems to have abated some. Basically, my moneydropped to 4 for a couple turns and then started to increase back up. I double checked all the info within the economic advisor and the economy tab but there wasn't anything to indicate why I was losing money.

malthaussen -> RE: Where's my money going? (1/25/2006 11:22:46 AM)

The economic model has been driving me batty for the past couple of days, and has really ruined the game's enjoyment for me. IMO, they should scrap the system of trying to factor in diminishing returns and artificial resource ceilings in the name of "balance," and just let you produce and stockpile what you want. No other 4x type game that I play so harshly penalizes success as this one.

LOL you should of seen it in the beginning

there have been many changes to it that make it much easier to live with, and most of the older players seem to think it was a little too much of a fix, and the game is too easy now, in that reguard

build and upgrade the right areas to improve what you need and soon you will have more then you can use, also you can always trade for stuff you need, or trade to make friends

TexHorns -> RE: Where's my money going? (1/25/2006 4:01:20 PM)

Hard Sarge is right. The more you play the more you will figure out how to make it work. Textiles will really be the only resource you feel like you never have enough of, that and gold. Everything else will stock pile nicely. Luxeries and spices will grow your National Morale faster, but your not penalized if you run short. Use developments to improve your production. You may have to adjust what each province produces on occasion to cover projected short falls. Raleigh's guides give good hints on how to set province development sliders. I put the trade advisor on and forget about it, but others manage there trade to help as Sarge pointed out. Once you get over the fact that you don't have complete control over every little facet of the economy, you will enjoy it more.

malthaussen -> RE: Where's my money going? (1/28/2006 4:22:24 PM)

But that is precisely the point, TexHorns. Since gold and textiles are the most critical economic elements of the game, the arbitrary ceilings set on their stockpiles means you will never have enough of what you need most, even if you are an economic genious.

My problem is not that I cannot manage my economy. My problem is that I am penalized for managing it well. The game *will* impose its limitations, no matter what I do. This is not to my taste.

The difficulty, I think, is that I have been approaching this game as a 4x style of game, rather than as an historical simulation.:) The limitations are, arguably, more realistic than otherwise, and probably were even more realistic in their original form.:) So the devs have probably accomplished their intent. I imagine, therefore, that what I am looking for is a different intent, and perhaps the devs might consider a setting for the game that allows these limitations to be disabled.

TexHorns -> RE: Where's my money going? (1/29/2006 6:47:54 AM)

I don't see that there is an arbitrary limit. On textiles if you don't spend them on units or development, then your citizenry consumes them and they add to your glory. So no limit, they are just spent every turn one way or another. I can regularly accumulate over 2000 gold. But that is spent each turn as well on units and development. Not "having enough" really just means you can't necessarily build everything you want in one turn. You may have to build over several turns.
