I'm building a model of a wrecked Wildcat and I would like to know if the control surfaces were doped cotton (like the TBD) or metal. It's very hard to determine from the pix I can find on the net.

Pilot was practicing Thach weave manuver during 1942 with an experience below 60. Guess it counts as an ops loss.

The model on display in Pensacola is all metal. Honestly don't remember which model it is. (Might be the GM unit.) Just went back to the Navy museum website and they now have 14 different Wildcats. http://naval.aviation.museum/home.html

I was just trying to make a joke about how conflicting information can lead to unexpected results. I guess I didn't do so well with the joke and I appologize. It was not my intention to offend either of the posters who responded with the information. As for my contribution to the forum...I know that I contribute little. I ask questions that are probably contained in the documentaion or the update info, but I only ask because I can't find what I am looking for.
