Another view looking towards the Sound. The batteries begin just off the left of the picture behind the treeline.

Looking down into one of the mortar battery pits from the front (Sound side). The large open doors give access to the mag spaces that go from one side of the battery, around the front and to the other side, (seperated internally into 3 long rectangular compartments)

Between the mortar batteries and the main gun line facing the north coastline lies the remains of the harbor defense command post. It was used up till the 1950's before the fort was decommissioned.

Harbor command post, top floor, observation station. View looking toward left wall and foward wall with old style heater pipes still in place.

Terminus -> RE: Fort Worden Trip (3/27/2006 11:43:24 AM)

Very cool... Those mortars, how big were they?

lyceum -> RE: Fort Worden Trip (3/27/2006 12:14:56 PM)

Thanks for the pics! Makes me want to go bunker hunting!

Isn't it odd how graffiti is very similar the world over?!

If you refer to the coast defense mortars, the US used 12 inch.

dtravel -> RE: Fort Worden Trip (3/27/2006 12:23:54 PM)

Thanks for the pics, Nik. After careful examination I have two observations. 1) You look remarkably like your avatar; and 2) GF Mark 1 is obviously slumming. [:'(][:D]

Terminus -> RE: Fort Worden Trip (3/27/2006 12:31:41 PM)

I've long since given up trying to fathom what she is doing with him...[X(][:'(]

Speedysteve -> RE: Fort Worden Trip (3/27/2006 12:32:04 PM)

Thanks a for sharing my friend.

My main observation was how beefy you are and that you must have struggled through those 'vent's[:'(]

Terminus -> RE: Fort Worden Trip (3/27/2006 12:33:22 PM)

Or the vents are a lot larger than they look in the pictures...

Speedysteve -> RE: Fort Worden Trip (3/27/2006 12:35:56 PM)

Note I said 'vents' [;)]

More like Black Hole's the size of our Solar System.......

Terminus -> RE: Fort Worden Trip (3/27/2006 12:36:27 PM)

Or the Chunnel...

Speedysteve -> RE: Fort Worden Trip (3/27/2006 12:38:15 PM)

Doubt he's heard of that. Far too European for him. He has probably heard of a Black Hole though[;)]
