RUPD3658 -> The Battle of Wake (1/23/2007 5:54:28 AM)

I don't really follow the coaching staff. Right now I am just focusing on Spring training for the Phillies starting next month.

RUPD3658 -> RE: The Battle of Wake (1/23/2007 5:58:19 AM)

I am beginning to think the Allies are using nucular powered CVs. After 16 days of operating at or near wake they are still around and flying missions.

RUPD3658 -> Wake falls (1/24/2007 2:15:46 AM)

Dead Jap soldiers were found holding umbrellas and small signs on sticks. The translators have determined that the symbols on the signs translate to "Yipe!"

Wake got pummelled by air and sea but managed to hold out for 2 days. Note to self: next time play the Allies

My Bettys were supposed to be set to range 10 to avoid a futile attack against Wake. I didn't bother setting a shorter range for the fighters because the Bettys should not fly. Well, I missed one group of Bettys with a suicidal commander and the Zeros dutifully flew escort. Lost over 100 planse as a result.

Since your avatar is Wile E. Coyote, these comments make since as you are playing the Japanese in '43 and should expect things to get worse. Ken will continue to bring the hammer until he entices you to bring out KB and Co. to play. [:D][:D]

finally Wake falls. Some 25,000 japanese soldiers have retreated to the hills (if there are any on Wake). They will be taken care of in the coming weeks, but we have captured the prize....a level 5 air base.

The battle raged for 15 days...and here are the losses...

i think as more and more PBEM games go into 43-44 you're gonna see some house rules for atoll stacking that is fair for both the defender and invader. I have yet to see any, nor think of any as of yet.

3 PC

About 1/2 of my CVs are damaged but since I am goofing off at work right now I don't have the actuall numbers in front of me.

Total size of Wake = 6.5 sq miles, which gives a space 10 x 10 meters for each Allied soldier... if they don't have any equipment... and remove the airfield... [:D]

BTW - highest point on the island is 6 meters... the Japanese are probably hiding on that "hill"...

RUPD3658 -> RE: Wake falls (1/24/2007 7:10:34 PM)

We aren't hiding on Wake, we are hiding IN Wake.

RUPD3658 -> RE: Wake falls (1/24/2007 8:32:07 PM)

After looking at Kenny's list of losses for both side I now think that I should not have contested the landings. Most of the Allied ships sunk were sunk by mines or coastal guns. My AC did little more the serve as target drones for the Hellcats and my surface ships got slaughtered when they encountered superior numbers and ship types.

I would have been batter to follow the advice of Sir Robin and just "Run Away!"

Now, with that said, the only positive to come out of this is that I learned that massed Bettys escorted by Zeros can get through the Allied CAP. We will soon learn what massed Bettys and Sally/Helens escorted by Zeros, Tonys, and Jacks can do.

RUPD3658 -> RE: Wake falls (1/25/2007 5:46:23 AM)

2 base forces at Wake were destroyed by attrition. Interesting thing is that their fragments did not become new parent units. Those units that were destroyed in combat have started to reform elsewhere. Yet another game mechanic discovered by accident.

Wake got cleared out. At least they died on their feet rather than starving.

Speaking of starving. Despite losing 1500 men at Chungking, the AV only went down by 7. I am having a Mongolian Cavalry unit (30 AV) make a suicide attack next turn to test what the adjusted AV is.

Assault by a single unit at Chungking showed that the AV has indeed fallen over the last 10 months. Now the question is: Can it be taken? This is tough to answer since the AV seems to have hit some kind of support level. Despite losing about 1000 troops per 2 day turn the AV level reported on the combat report after bombardments is not moving.

Chungking must be some kind of alternate universe where up is down and more is less. Despite being pounded by close to 550 bombers and 3000 guns the number of men went up by 5000 and the AV went up by 20. [&:] Maybe if I just left it alone they would die.

I had sent some MLs to leave a present in Northern New Guina before Hollandia became operational. Well, it was a level 2 AF for less than 24 hours before it's planes sank 3 of my MLs.

Less is more at Chungking. I reduced the number of units attacking and stopped the air strikes. As a result the AV and numbers went down. I wonder if it has something to do with supplies being moved from the base into individual units that got damaged. At Buna I had a situation where there were supplies at the base but the units had none. The supplies would not moving into the units. Could be what is happening here.

stldiver -> RE: Strategic Review 101 (1/30/2007 12:03:51 AM)

Supplies do not move to the units unless their requirments are less then what is at the base.

For example, If a base has 15k supplies and the units not attacked would draw 10k supply then they will always be in supply.
Now if they are bombed, attacked or they attack and their draw goes to 17k need, then at the end of the day they will not draw supply and thus you will see each unit start to have less then total supply.

If they are in this state for several days, the supplies at the base will stay at 15k, the first day that demand falls below the amount of supply at the base, then all units will be supplied.

In other words its all or nothing. This is what I have observed, so even though a base has supply it will only give it to the units if the total demand is less then the supply. Hope this helps in your analysis,

I enjoy your AAR

RUPD3658 -> RE: Strategic Review 101 (1/30/2007 5:18:48 AM)

Thanks for the analysis. I have been scoring 5-7 VP for ground losses every 2 day turn so this means that 60-72 Chinese squads are being destroyed or starving each 2 day turn. How their AV can go up under these circumstances is beyond me. Even getting 300 supplies per turn should not be able to stop the constant decline of the AV let alone increase it. I am beginning to think that the number on the combat report is subject to FOW.

RUPD3658 -> RE: Strategic Review 101 (1/30/2007 5:22:37 AM)

Kenny has begun the reduction of Rabaul by air. Should be a bloody fight when he lands there.

Chinese fighters respawned at Chungking and got destroyed on the ground. The troops there must have eaten the destroyed planes since their AV went up again despite the heavy air attack.

KDonovan -> RE: Strategic Review 101 (2/2/2007 6:01:05 PM)

as i prepare for my next offensive, here's a list of aircraft Tom can expect to go up against in the next 4-5 months....

RUPD3658 -> RE: Strategic Review 101 (2/2/2007 6:06:37 PM)

Bah! I get Peggys and Kamikazies in 3 more months. [:D]

KDonovan -> RE: Strategic Review 101 (2/2/2007 7:25:39 PM)

does RUPD stand for Rutgers Universtiy Police Department??

RUPD3658 -> RE: Strategic Review 101 (2/2/2007 8:18:52 PM)

Yes, New Brunswick Divison, but don't tell anyone[:-]

Did I ever arrest you?

Edit: Just checked records and I didn't. [;)]

you would have to check The College of New Jersey Police Department for my record of misconduct at school [:D]

i make a point to underline the "The" in "The College of New Jersey", as everytime i tell people i went to school at The College of New Jersey, i get a question back in the form of "so which college in NJ?" [:@]

now i just need to figure out what 3658 means in your name....first guess would be Age 36, waist size 58 [:D][:D]

RUPD3658 -> RE: Strategic Review 101 (2/2/2007 9:36:49 PM)

Waist is not that bad yet and I turn 39 next month[;)]

It is my badge #. My e-mail is my initials and badge number.

Did you figure this out by "Googling" my name?

And by the way, I still think of your alma mater as either Stockton or Trenton State. [:D]
