Qwerty -> Gave the old demo a go... (4/21/2006 2:25:09 AM)

and wow! I never heard of this game up until a couple of months ago and boy have I been missing out.

I really enjoyed playing the Korean demo so much. I've played this single scenario countless times. I've been searching all over for the game, I was planning to buy an original copy plus the new Matrix edition when it was released. I'm that hooked!

I was unable to find an original so now I guess I'll have to wait just like everyone else. Really looking forward to it guys.

I would luv to try the demo.

Does it work on XP (im guessing no, but who knows[:D])

If so, can you link me

The demo works on xp, it even works on network PC's, so you could play at work...[8|] Do you know where to get it? Klick here.

jjax -> RE: Gave the old demo a go... (4/21/2006 3:10:01 AM)

Thanks[:D]

I guess I will give this a go as well; it has been over a decade since I have played this game.

Your sense of time is warped my man...

The original TOAW came out in May, 1998!

Yeah, I meant the original TOAW. Having a child completely messes up all time progression perception.[&:]

LoL...tell me about it! I've got four, and if tomorrow isn't yesterday, then today is last year....[sm=dizzy.gif]

And by tomorrow they will have grown up, moved out and started their own families. Believe me, it really happens that fast.

You also can have a look at this acrticle at szo. Or click (hello molotov_billy) here. The site has more interesting articles for you (i believe), also you can have a look at the forum.

At szo you can also find the original manual in pdf format. Click here.

When i first played toaw (toaw2) i also had to read the manual to get any clue..much of it comes when you are constantly playing. When you come to the point that the AI is boring you, you have it...[:D]

Well, as I recall, the demo is just the first ten turns of the Korea scenario. Normally, that's pretty straightforward for the United Nations, but with only ten turns you have a hard time turning back the red tide, especially if you're not familiar with the PO's weaknesses.

That's not true Ben. You can play the entire Korea campaign in the demo. Otherwise i could give him the hint on how to build the game by himself for free, what i posted in the szo forums...but as you can see there that seems to be quite..well from frustrating to heureka! Or so...

The demo at szo is of a "newer" date. Maybe you had the toaw1 demo?
doesn't matter anyway....

That's right. I got Volume I just in time for the release of Century of Warfare.

jjax -> RE: Gave the old demo a go... (4/22/2006 7:39:24 PM)

It had more than 10 turns. I was playing UN and the first 10 turns went ok...atleast i thought. It was the back ten that got me(which usually means the first ten turns didnt go aswell as i thought).......Anyways when i have time ill check out that tutorial Telumar suggested. That should answer my questions. Hopefully, ill know what i'm doing before matrix releases the game. But then again...considering the amount of time its taking matrix to releases the thing, ill be a pro[;)]

sol_invictus -> RE: Gave the old demo a go... (4/22/2006 10:46:09 PM)

Well I can't seem to get the demo to run; I always get an error message that says TOAW requires at least 16 bit color to run. I've tried compatability mode as well as changing from 32 to 16 bit color but it keeps saying it needs 16 bit color. I was even able to get Age of Rifles to run so I thought this would be effortless. Anyone have any ideas?

No idea, sorry. Are you running XP? On my notebook the demo and the game work under XP PRO, i've heard on other computers with XP they don't run...weird. You could also post your problem at strategyzoneonline. Maybe there are some guys who can help you.

Man, I loved that show when I was a kid....

After all those seasons on TV, and nobody dies...
Then the long-awaited movie comes out, and it's a slaughterfest...

My childhood innocence....gone forever.....[sm=dizzy.gif]

sol_invictus -> RE: Gave the old demo a go... (4/23/2006 8:45:18 AM)

Telumar, yes, I'm running XP Pro. I guess it will just help build my anticipation until release. I'm knee deep in the mud of Old Mother Russia at the moment and getting closer to Moscow in BII and that should occupy me for a bit.

Can you post the exact error message, along with the specs on your video card, please?

Thanks,
Ralph

sol_invictus -> RE: Gave the old demo a go... (4/23/2006 7:48:29 PM)

The message is, "The Operational Art of War requires at least 16 bit color. You can adjust your color depth with the Windows Display Properties Dialog."

My Video card specs are a Radeon X800XT 256MB. My system specs are Win XP Pro 3.2 cpu, 1GB Ram DELL XPS. Just release the game and I wont even worry about the demo.[;)]

jchastain -> RE: Gave the old demo a go... (4/24/2006 3:19:52 PM)

The thing I'll never forget about this game is the editability with such a great span of history. Invading 1940 France with an M1-A1 loaded modern tank battalion was loads of fun in the what-if department. [:D]

You will if you can't play it [:@] That's a simple check that's in both versions. Can you right click on the desktop, and verify that you are set to at least 16 colors please? You should also verify that you've got the latest video drivers available, you can get those from the Dell site for this (there are a bunch of other sites where you can get later ones, but this game isn't cutting edge.)
