Thanks, Don. I really appreciate all the work you've done to better this great game and patience you have with us computer illiterates.[:D]

Next question (since I don't have the game in front of me and won't for another 6 or so hours:

Is there any way (other than the editor) to see how many pilots you have avalable in non-unit specific pilot pool?

Thanks much.

Very cool. Thanks![:)]

I am checking it on RHS scenario...

1. Disband ff plane daitai (8 pilots): currently in pool says 200, named pilots says: 8
2. Added 2 pilots for F1 Tainan in Takao: currently in pool says 200, named pilots says: 0 (zero) !

3. Add 30 pilots to other navy daitai, currently in pool says 200, (no decrease!) named pilots says: 0 (zero)!

I am confused... Is it only RHS or other scenarios as well has this feature...??
well a nice feature for a japanese player ;)

Don't know - should not work this way. Send me your save game and I'll take a look.

Don

viberpol -> RE: War In The Pacific Updated to v1.801 (5/18/2006 7:58:54 PM)

Don, see above.

Checked the CHS 155 scenario as well.
If you disband small group to get the pilots back in the pool "named pilots",
and then try to add pilots -- more than disbanded -- you get the pilots but no decrese in "currently in pool" number.
I do not know... this is a "first turn feature" or just a problem in viewing the "Pilot replacements" interface?

Yea, I know it should not work this way.

But in my case it works in BOTH two wrong (?) ways ;)

I can get experienced pilots from nowhere (no decrease in pool)
And if you take one pilot from "named pilots" pool composed of, say, 8 pilots, the same pool decreases to zero.

pad152 -> RE: War In The Pacific Updated to v1.801 (5/18/2006 8:27:00 PM)

I never did understand how this simple idea of pilot replacement casused so much trouble[&:], now I understand this pilot replacement is just as complex and confusing as Japanese production, och![8|]

Captain Ed -> RE: War In The Pacific Updated to v1.801 (5/18/2006 8:42:55 PM)

Is this cool. I have a pbem going I just updated to 1.81. I transfer in a few float plane units into Osaka I then immediatly disband the units and I get all the pilots who by the way are in there 80`s into the named pilot pool. I then go and look for some fighter units that are short on experience and or pilots and planes. I add in the required number of planes using the get plane function but no pilots are added. I then add pilots using the get pilot button and the pilots are drawn from the pool just filled up by the float plane disbandment, and these pilots are in there 80`s. I have just created a fighter unit of 27 A6M2`s that numberd 10 planes and 12 pilots with experience in there 80`s to one of 27 with experience in there 80`s. I suspect this will be a boon to Japan. Although you will still run out of experienced pilots anyway.[:D]

By the way I plan on telling my PBEM partner about this as this is a big enhancment and might require a restart to be fair to all partners.

Holy C**P I have now created a super group of 60 some odd Float planes in Osaka that I assume I can disband next turn and get 60 odd pilots with 80 experience in the named pilot pool I can then use to flesh out my depleted Fighter Daitais. This is better than sex. From what I remember anyway.[>:]

viberpol -> RE: War In The Pacific Updated to v1.801 (5/18/2006 8:53:24 PM)

a "boon to Japan"?

or you meant baby boom... float baby boom... float fighters baby boom?

they had nothing to do but wait to be disbanded, in face of Allied air superiority... hmm... procreating?
They multiply in the pool (in the 1st turn?) ;))

Why restart - it works the same way for both players.

Captain Ed -> RE: War In The Pacific Updated to v1.801 (5/18/2006 9:04:42 PM)

Well yeah. Of course you can do this with Float planes, bombers, transports its all good.
I figure you don`t need high experience pilots driving transports and recons and such Pilots in there 50`s will do nicely. You do want the high level guy`s driving the fighters though. I think this is not out of the realm of reality a pilot is a pilot an experinced tranport driver can be taught the rudiments of fighter plane driving, in a lot shorter time than can a green pilot from flight school. How long is needed is open to debate.

I just want to give Mr. Bowen a brownie point here. What you are doing here, answering questions about how the game is intended to work, is to my mind at least as important as the patches and has been sorely lacking. Thank you.

Aye, kudos on some well-thought out and useful refinements and a prompt release of a fix.

An additional logarithmic increase in the kudos is due for the manner in which you are engaging with players with respect to the work done, fixes and mechanics of implementing them. This has been an area of some frustration to me recently and it is nice to see a different tack being taken.

We've been wondering where they are ! [:D][;)]

Nomad -> RE: War In The Pacific Updated to v1.801 (5/19/2006 5:05:07 AM)

I'm wondering if it will just take time. On the face it is a good idea, but I wonder about using PBYs on 100% Naval Search for a while and then disbanding them so they can fly F4Fs. Or the allies flying supply from one end of the runway to the other and then using those 'trained' pilots to fly P-40s. I think there are a large number of exploits to this and there should be some complaints. Mostly just an observation, players do not have to use exploits, but some think that the game should prevent them. [;)]

Argh glad to see more patched but I spent 4 hours making a new scenario based on Patch 1.8

Hmm any Data base or OOB changes ? might just run the new Scenario with the new changes

Nope no DB or OOB changes .. EXE only. Just load up and keep on playing or modding ...

What do the other members think about the named pilot thing, is it gamey. If so why, I mean if you are the Japanese and you have say 2-300 pilots flying who have high experience levels but they are flying transports or float planes or even recons and you have a desperate need for fighter pilots with experience even if thay do not have experience in fighters they can still fly they know how to navigate they know how to recognize dangerous situations. I think these traits make a good pilot, far better than what Japan was putting out of her training schools anyway. I for one think it is fair to use these pilots.
