Budgie -> You save and you save and you get robbed (6/6/2006 10:06:14 PM)

Playing Russia: Bank acount is $1983 at end of turn.

No slider adjuistments made. No new trade deals.

Predicted to increase funds $20 bucks or so.

End turn.

Start of next turn . . Bank account drops for no reason to $500 [X(]

Development and build screens show $500 and only allow $500 worth of builds.
[:(]

Error is repeatable and consistent from this save point.

Can anyone help?

Is it Winter?  Did you move your military units and change their supply costs?  The supply costs can become enormous in bad weather or when you have large stacks.

Thanks for reply Eric.

Playing patch 1.2.

Situation is , Russia is at peace. Single player game.

All Russian Army HQ's, Inf, Art ,Cal are in cities. On forage orders. No Russian depots on the board.

All Cossack units are dispersed and on forage orders (military upkeep is 42 dollars.)

This situation has been like this for 4-5 turns and Russia was getting rich.

She has 5 merchants and has been gaining 200-300 dollars increase per turn then this bug<-- or human player error . . .? stuck.

I thought maybe it had to do with $2000 cash limit as per manual so tried spending down my money to $1500 to no avail . . .(I keep reloading a past save to bypass the bug) [:(]

Cash at turn end is $1983 . . .cash at turn start is $500.

However in the save game turn . . .I did adjust the training time from default 12 months to 18 months. ? Maybe the conscripts sued me for the extended service and the legal costs are eating up the treasury.

I tried to adjust it back to 12 months and then reload, but the results are the same.

Another thought. I have been subsiding Austria and Prussia for $30 each. But this has in past turns only used up $60.

A new problem we have found is that in multiplayer games (only) is. The economic sliders can not be twigged to maximise production. We tested this. The game just resets the sliders to what it wants to .

Regardless if the sliders are set on lock or not. It seems as if the develope adviser is running the show although he is not set to do so. (We are on a LAN , PC's set side by side so we can really playtest.)

OR : We are doing something wrong.

Still; we are enjoying the game.

Budgie,
In Multiplayer games online, for the sliders to stick/orders to be followed, there is two certainties I can give you.  I've been playing TCP/IP for a while now.

Certainty 1:  The host has to be the first person in the player order.  France goes first.  If nobody is playing France, then, the host has to be whomever moves next(GB).  If this doesn't happen, the sliders will never stick.  Locking them, as you see, does no good.

Certainty 2:  If the host player hits the "end turn" button before receiving the data from the other players, many of their changes/orders will not happen.  To avoid this, chat with your opponents (if they're from across the world), and wait for them to send you their data.  Once they've all sent, (your screen should sort of freeze up) wait a few seconds, then save...finally hit end turn.

I've played guys across the planet, so in the same room you should be able to go gangbusters.

Thank You Grande. We will try this. My opponent is the host. He's Prussia, I'm again Russia and he always ends his turn first. He's a Ney . . . I'm a Montgomery and I admitt, a bit anal on economic and other micro management factors of the game.

And this game is a wonderfull treat for micro manage types.

Budgie, would you  mind sending me a copy of the save game?  Just zip both the .sve and .rep files together and email them to ericbabe@west-civ.com.

In our LAN tests, the slider bars and diplomat orders are working properly, so we think that these problems have to do with instability in the underlying libraries over the internet (though we have done limited internet testing and have been unable to reproduce either of these bugs.)  I'm working on replacing the underlying libraries (moving from Microsoft's DirectPlay to some other package) but it's been a very slow and difficult process.

I will try Eric. Service provider here is miserly on packet size . Perhaps a zipped file might make it under the wire.
