Hmmm.... Bombard, bombard, bombard....You'll need to be certain that you set your bombard TFs to stick around (unless your getting hit by massive ACs - then you shouldn't be there anyway). I usually spend 2-3 days prior to invasion bombarding a site I know has a big contingent (Shortland for example). Your going to need to reset each Bombard TF to Bombard mission each day to have them keep up the pressure. They revert to Surface combat mission after 1 bombard cycle. Also, use APDs/DDs to get the shock troops landed. Due to their speed, they tend to take less bombard damage. If your the US, send a small PT squadron to patrol the invasion site to intercept any barges that IJN tries to push through your boats. Most important of all - In all Invasion/Bombard TFs, be sure and include DM, DMS, and MSWs. Keep the MSWs for the AP TFs and use the DMs & DMS'es for the fast stuff. You'll still hit mines but you'll clear quite a few too (I believe probability of a mine hit drops significantly when sweepers are present in the algorithm). Your probably seeing a lot of your APs hitting mines as well as taking coastal gun hits.
