Yava -> Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/5/2006 3:45:05 PM)

Well I just had Lady Lex... never dammaged in PH.. I created Air Combat TF and the next day she has 14 sys dmg... still being docked at PH? Any ideas where did it come form?[:)]

Terminus -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/5/2006 3:45:57 PM)

Termites... Steel-eating termites...

99,99% probability that she just had an upgrade.

2ndACR -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/5/2006 4:04:48 PM)

That would probably be it. That is about the right amount of system damage from an upgrade.

Yava -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/5/2006 4:31:35 PM)

Damn Luck...[:'(][:(]

Nikademus -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/5/2006 6:50:18 PM)

there is a toggle now to prevent auto-upgrading.

Nowhere near. For the Lexington with a Durability of about 120 (IIRC) upgrade damage should be around 2 to 4 points of SYS. The only ships that should be receiving 14 points of damage from an upgrade are those with a DUR of 15 or less. Plus upgrades require the ship to be disbanded, they aren't triggered for ships in TFs.

My guess would be she got torpedoed by a Japanese sub.

Yes, the sys damage is much too high for a typical upgrade. However, that does raise a question for me. Is upgrade damage consistent or variable depending upon what is upgraded?

The only way to get to that level of sys damage in one turn though is through combat damage.

Terminus -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/5/2006 11:37:44 PM)

How exactly would a Japanese submarine have torpedoed a US carrier that's docked in port? Hmm? Tell me that, please...[8|]

Yava -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/5/2006 11:55:14 PM)

T has a point here... no sub attacks near PH in for about a month now... not too mention Lady lex was "disbanded" at port for something like a week or so with no sys dmg... as I stated it occured as soon as I created the TF... it got this dmg as the only ship in it...

Well, IIRC the amount of sys damage a ship incurs is:

a. a random value
b. inversely proportional to the endurance of the ship, e.g. the higher the endurance, the less damage incurred. This is because big ships take so long to repair. No one would upgrade a BB if it took 14 points sys damage it would take 6 months at PH to return to operation.

I'm not saying its impossible that it is upgrade damage, just that it is highly improbable that a big ship will ever incur so much damage from an upgrade.

Frankly, I'm at a loss as to what it could be. Maybe Yava has been playing WitP after drinking beer again. [;)]

Yava -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/6/2006 12:03:23 AM)

The problem is that before beer...[;)]

Terminus -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/6/2006 12:05:42 AM)

Well, there are ways to check if it's an upgrade...

Why, that would be far too obvious and simple. [;)]

I bet you are the kind of guy that watches a horror movie and asks aloud, why did that girl just open the closet door to see if the serial killer actually IS hiding inside. [:'(]

Yava -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/6/2006 12:08:33 AM)

Ok, maybe the date can help... it's 23 of January 1942, I just started another stock 15 after finishing the last one... I don't remember upgrades at that point of the war on my CV's last time...

niceguy2005 -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/6/2006 12:17:17 AM)

1/42 can't be an upgrade I'm pretty sure.

Yava -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/6/2006 12:19:08 AM)

I was thinking the same... if I recall well in this state[:D] upgrades begin somewhat 3/42...

Nope, Lexington doesn't upgrade until 3/42. Guess Yava missed an attack somewhere...

Terminus -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/6/2006 12:19:49 AM)

Maybe a mine? Those messages can disappear pretty quickly...

No way dad, if I see a sub attack I get really mad.. btw. Never had a CV sucesfully attacked by a sub...[:(]

Hmmm in PH?

Terminus -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/6/2006 12:21:19 AM)

Friendly fire is a possibility with mines, you know. Add to that your self-confessed alcoholism, and...[:'(]

Yava -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/6/2006 12:21:59 AM)

Ok I go for the option that some drunk sailor tried to smoke a cig near the place where they were loading fuel on the ship while being in port and it well... went KABOOM!

I didn't mine PH... not necessary in my opinion...

Is this a PBEM or against the AI. If it's PBEM you may have been hit by the synch bug...not to be confused with the sink bug.

Mike Solli -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/6/2006 12:24:23 AM)

Have you tried replaying the combat replay?

I did watch it carefully... can't be a sub.. no asw no sub attacks 300 miles near PH... Couldn't be a plane.. (I'm not that blind)... couldn't have been a mine... since it would be really odd for the AI to mine something with subs.. especially something like PH... with ASW TF's 3 squares from it... at each hex.. Airgroups on ASW patrols... it's just 14 sys dmg.. out of nowhere... it's just there! I got really pissed.. I was just about to get and shoot me some turkey... I mean Japs for dinner.. and what ? No way [:(] At least one of my CVs is out of action...

Terminus -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/6/2006 12:30:08 AM)

Quit blubbering... 14 sys damage is a week or two in the yards...

Yava -> RE: Simple Question about Sys Dmg? (9/6/2006 12:32:13 AM)

Indeed oh nvm... i still think it was a drunk dock worker that caused the problem... no other explenation for it so far... thanks for answers anyways guys...

Uh, I'd say a month. I usually figure on 1 point every other day for capital ships.
