Fishbed -> RE: Kido Butai attack on Wake maritime links (11/30/2006 4:21:40 PM)

You're not gonna give up a single inch of ground, are you?
Hope your DEI defense will prove worthy - Gen.Hoepner tried, and while it tied up his opponent, well it wasn't enough yet eventually, unfortunately :(

Fletcher -> RE: Kido Butai attack on Wake maritime links (11/30/2006 11:20:16 PM)

Thanks for question. A word about our defensive strategy at DEI:
Our opponent is a very conservative player, we know about his purpouses that 5th, 55th and 33rd Divisions are advancing in the Malaya penninsula, the 21st and 18th raided lungchow and now are retraiting to Indochina sanctuary, the 48th is at Phillipines Island, the 38th at HongKong, we only need to know about 4th, 56th, 16th and 2nd Divisions (probably Guard Imperial Division is still standing at Bangkong, is only a posibility (but a greater posibility), but we spotted 10 unidentified units near Clark Field (could be there some infantry division).
About his air offensive in China, we are sure he will try to crush the factories, and he is trying to smash AVG group to avoid allied air superiority in this theather.
We are actually give up some ground, we have evacuated Malaya penninsula, some DEI islands, and Cebu island in the Phillipines, no ground inches given up in Pacific Theater. At first time we think in the malaya evacuation like the number one priority, with a eye on Java defense, we think 1.500-2.000 assault with 600 aircrafts will be a big problem to a conservative japanese player to take Soebaraja, if he don´t suspect anything, could be a big surprise, and we´ll try to keep a strong ground force (1.500-2.000 AV). We have increase the fortifications in the main bases (Maoien, Malang and Soerabaja), and we are sending massive amount of supplies to let increase Soebaraja port (level 9 let us to begin minelaying operations from this port).
Kido Butai (Shokaku-Zuikaku, Soryu-Hiryu identified) is at dec 29th in central pacific area (Midway-Wake area), he will need about 10-14 days to return at DEI scenario, if he don´t we will get more time for our purpouses in the area. We´ll avoid the Torres strait transit until we will crush amboina airfield with B-17E from Darwin.
Excuse me for my poor english, but it is not my native laguage. Thanks !

Fletcher -> Phillipines Island Report, Jan 3rd 1942 (12/9/2006 10:29:26 PM)

No news from Phillipine Islands !. Enemy is gathering in the approaches of Clark Field, with 6 LCU at Lingayen and another 15 in Tuguegarao road.

Current situation at Luzon Island (supplies, Assault strenght and fortifications status):

Bataan: 570 assault points, 16.921 supplies, Forts 4
ClarkF: 638 assault points, 18.145 supplies, Fort 4 (+82%)
Manila: 546 assault points, 27.554 supplies, Fort 1 (+48%).

The main objetive is increase the Fort level at Clark Field to 5 and try to tied up the japanese advance so weeks as possible.

The total stockpile of supplies at Luzon is 62.620 tonns (63.522 at Dec 25th after last shipping arrive at Manila-Bataan ports).
The total strenght is grow up with 1.754 assault points versus the 1.594 at Dec.25th.
The fortification level have been stopped at Bataan at level 4 to keep supplies, and I expect that Clark Field will grow to level 5 in 9-10 days about. When 5 level will be manage then the fort effort will be stopped too, to keep supplies needed for combat.

Fletcher -> RE: Phillipines Island Report, Jan 3rd 1942 (12/16/2006 4:14:57 PM)

CHINESE DIVERSIONARY ATTACKS PLANNED

Now, we know that japanese LCU main units are compromised:

21st and 18th at Indochina (retriting from Lungchow raid)
38th at HongKong (?)
4th, 48th, 2nd, 16th, 56th at Phillipines Island
33th, 55th, 5th and Imperial Guards at Malaya

Now is the moment to press on in the China front in support of Hammer-II
in South Pacific and Java defense efforts, I am planning 2 probes attacks
in the China Front.

a) Canton Probe:

The manouvre idea is not assault the Canton base, only stand there to fix so enemy units as
possible and avoid industry production. (the 38th Division and 65 Brigades belongs to
Southern Area Army and would be very interesting for allieds that units could be fixed
in the China theather).

XII GROUP ARMY with 62nd, 63rd, 66th and 83rd Regional Army Corps (702 Assault Strenght)
X GROUP ARMY with 39th, 64th, 46th and 84th Regional Army Corps (750 Assault Strenght)
XXXIII GROUP ARMY with 55th, 59th and 77th Regional Army Corps (594 Assault Strengt)
Y´Force with 3rd, 4th and 7th Cavalry Central Army Corps,7th and 8th Central Army
Corps, 201st, 221st and 235 Central Army Divisions, and 11st, 12nd and 14th Central
Army Artillery Regiment, 1st Central Army Tank Regiment (total: 1351 Assault Strenght)

Total Assault Value : 3.396

Logistic:

Wuchow Supplies Stocks at Jan 6th: 10.025 tonns.
Liuchow Supplies Stocks at Jan 6th: 14.112 tonns.
Supplies with XII Group Army units: 2.241 tonns.
Supplies with X Group Army units: 1.979 tonns.
Supplies with XXXIII G.Army units: 1.518 tonns.
Supplies with Y´Force (Stilwell) : 7.877 tonns.

If needed, the Chiang-Kai-Chek HQ at Chungking will be moved at Tuyun and then at
Liuchow to gathering more supplies in southern china area.

Enemy Forces, Intelligence:

XII and XXIII Army HeadQuarters
51st, 104th and 38th Divisions (the last belonging at Southern Area Army)
19th and 65 Brigades.
19th Engineer Regiment.
2 Field Artillery Regiments.
1 Base Force.

Supposed enemy assault value in Canton Area: over 1.700 Assault Points.

INDOCHINA Invasion

The same idea like Canton probe maneuvre, with 18th and 21st japanese divisions at Hanoi-
Haiphong area, i would try to fix them in the area avoiding that japanese player will send
another fronts (Java).
At this momment (Jan 6th, 1942),this ops is at planning phase, with 5 regional army corps
marching at Lungchow, with 2nd War Area HQ (XVII and XXIII Group Armies), and another 2
corps in reserve at Lungchow.

Fletcher -> RE: Fletcher's AAR (12/20/2006 12:10:48 AM)

DEI Naval Report, Jan 8th 1942:

24 allied submarines are patrolling in borneo nearby, with 7 USN fleet and 2 S-boats in the North, another 2 S-boats with 5 Fleet submarines in the south, and 8 dutch boats in the rear running fast to kuching and tarakan landing areas.

Inteligence: probably the Ryujo CV TF could be in the south, but we have not seen any aircraft, we try to confirm with SS and PBY. At tarakan a bombardent TF with BB Hyuga and BB Yamashiro with 2 CA´s and DD escort. CI and CII japanese air groups are in LRCAP over enemy ships at Kuching (Claudes and Zeros), I think could be the litlle CVE Hosho with CVL Zuiho.

Maneuvre Idea: Our first intention will be transit to preposition point (27,67) with ABDA Fleet (CVL Hermes, BB PoW, BC Repulse, BB Revenge, 4 CA, 11 CL, 2 CLAA and 24 DD in 3 main TF´s with 2 ASW TF´s). The Air Combat TF with Hermes and AA powered ships (CL´s, CLAA´s and better AA destroyers), Main Surface Combat Task Group with PoW, Repulse, all CA´s and better surface DD´s (all fastest), the Secundary (diversionary) Surface Task Group with Revenge and dutch cruisers, some destroyers.
When we will arrive at 27,67 we´ll we gather intelligence in the Tarakan area, if we could consider an attack chance we´ll running fast to 32,63 (Swordfish launch point) with Fast BB TF running fast to Tarakan and secondary TF´s closing the gates in the area. It is only the begining idea. We are trying to get the best attack chance. We will synchronize (X-1 day) with a bombing attack from Balikpapan with our ABDA strategic air force (16 B-17 and 16 Blenheim IV) over Brunei airfield only to neutralize)

Borneo report, ABDA Fleet

ABDA Battle Force with 6 Task Groups is heading to nearby Samarinda to launch air attack with Swordfish over
japanese transports at Tarakan. We have transfer 2 dutch fighters sqdns with 16 aircrafts to Samarinda and
Balikpapan airfields, with 12 british naval fighters aboard HMS Hermes in LRCAP over the fleet.

ABDA Battle Force with "Prince of Walles", "Repulse", 4 CA (2 USN, 1 Aussie, 1 UK), 5 Flush Deck destroyers.
ABDA Diversionary Force with "Revenge", 7 CL (3 dutch, 1 aussie and 3 UK), 7 DD (1 french and 6 dutch).
ABDA Air Combat Task Group, with HMS Hermes, 2 CLAA, 4 CL (2 UK and 2 USN), 7 DD (6 USN FD and 1 dutch).
2 Fast ASW Task Group with 2 DD each (all british) and 1 Slow ASW T.G. (6 USN MSW).

The ABDA Battle Force will sail to X-Point and if possible will launch Swordfish, if that will not be possible, the
ships will come back to our sanctuary at Soerabaja to refit and replenishment. If Tarakan will fall in the japanese
hands we will prepare similar measures to defend Kendari or Balikpapan bases.

Searching task by Do-24K in near bases (Makassar-Bendjamarsin), for the other hand, the South Borneo USN SubRon will
patrol the nearby of Tarakan searching for hunt. The VP Sqdn with PBY at Davao has been transfered to Manila like
dissapointment measure (probably our enemy will think could be fighters at LRCAP over Manila).
