I think that would be too difficult to stick to with the more obscure generals (campaign rank). Their final rank is what we will find more often that not IMO.

AU Tiger_MatrixForum -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (11/19/2006 6:07:51 AM)

Hey Gil,

I just remembered that the Battleground series had some pretty good bios for a bunch of generals. Now that Matrix has the rights to the series, you might want to look into getting a look at them.
I wish I still had them, but I did a cleaning out of all my old games some time ago, and they went since I couldn't run them anymore, although I don't remember why.

Gil R. -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (11/25/2006 8:20:01 PM)

A quick request:

For those of you who are providing ratings for generals along with their bios, please provide your ratings in the following order, since that's the order I will need to use when entering them into the spreadsheet: Leadership, Tactical, Initiative, Command, Cavalry. Thanks!

histgamer -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (11/30/2006 11:22:46 AM)

Has

W.S. Hancock been done yet?

kfmiller41 -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (11/30/2006 8:44:37 PM)

I would like to volunteer to help with this. I have a large Civil War bookself and do have time to research things. I am downloading the game as I type and it would be nice to see bio's I researched when I play the game[:D]

Gil R. -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (11/30/2006 9:56:07 PM)

Flanyboy, Hancock is still out there. Am I correct to assume that you'd want to do his bio, or were you just interested in seeing it?

Miller41, great to have you aboard. I'd suggest that, like the others, you start off with five bios of the 9-percenters to get the hang of it. Any preferences (e.g., USA vs. CSA), or particular generals you'd want?

histgamer -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (11/30/2006 11:54:02 PM)

I would like to try it. However first I will read up on what some others have posted for other generals. I think I could have a Hancock one up in a day or two. (Have a large test in Logic tomorrow)

Gil R. -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/1/2006 2:01:22 AM)

Okay, let me know (here or by private message) if you want to make it official.

I just checked, and my memory was wrong: he's one of the 100-percenters.

kfmiller41 -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/1/2006 6:55:29 AM)

I have no preference for side, research is fun no matter which side it is. Wherever you need me most.

Gil R. -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/1/2006 7:03:35 AM)

Okay, I put you down for the following, simply going down the list in alphabetical order:

D.B. Birney
W. Birney
F.P. Blair
A.G. Blanchard
L. Blenker

Thanks!

histgamer -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/2/2006 3:59:06 AM)

I almost have Hancock done.

Do you want sources?

Also please bare with me as this is my first bio, for a general such as Hancock its unfortunate there is a limit of 3000 characters but as to that is it 3000 with spaces? or without?

Gil R. -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/2/2006 4:01:05 AM)

With spaces. You can cheat a little on that 3000 number if necessary -- we just don't want any long screeds.

No sources are necessary. If you're completely making it all up someone here will figure that out... (But of course, if you have any interesting books or websites to share, feel free to let us know.)

histgamer -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/2/2006 4:07:16 AM)

The standard stuff Foote, Canton, Grants Personal Memoirs nothing special

Gil R. -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/2/2006 4:17:11 AM)

Sounds great.

histgamer -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/3/2006 8:27:22 PM)

Can i do Couch, Sumner, Andrew A. Humphreys?

histgamer -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/4/2006 10:09:58 AM)

I dont mean to get ahead of myself, however (if you like my reports i havent really recived any feedback if they are bad i dont have to continue) however if they are of high enough quality to continue i would like to do the following (2 of them because of state connections, i am from wisconsin home of most of the iron brigade)

I plan to finish up Humphreys tomorrow (have sumner and Couch done and posted)

I would like permision to then began on the following three right away.

John Gibbon (commanded the iron brigade)
Soloman Meredith (commanded the iron brigade)
John C Caldwell (no real reason for him other than its an interesting story.)

Battleline -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/6/2006 1:43:19 AM)

Gil,
Throw me some names!
I'll get started when I get home from work tonight.
Thanks,
Battleline

I have my copy of Who was Who in the Civil War handy so I think I can handle a few.

I somehow missed this post. In case I didn't say so elsewhere, the bios you've done are exactly the sort of thing we need. I keep meaning to edit your bios and the others, but work etc. gets in the way. This weekend I will definitely make time, in case I can't get to them tomorrow.

Good to hear. Why don't I start you off, as I did the others, with five taken alphabetically from the top? They would be:

Blunt,_J.G.
Boggs,_W.R.
Bohlen,_H.
Bonham,_M.l.
Bowen,_J.

Thanks!

Regardless if the first 5 pass inspection or not I'll start working on the next whenever you are ready.

Gil R. -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/15/2006 1:46:11 AM)

I've only skimmed them, but they're all fine. A bit on the short side, but that might be a function of their not having been as interesting as other generals.

How about just continuing down the list, with:
Bowen,_J.S. (You already did J. Bowen -- please make sure that you didn't do J.S. Bowen by mistake)
Boyle,_J.T.
Bradley,_L.P.
Bragg,_E.S.
Branch,_L.O.

Yep they weren't exactly at the forefront of their peers! Except for Bonham, I think I can add a bit more on him.

BTW go ahead and give me 10 more, I have some time on my hands for the next few days...

Gil R. -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/15/2006 10:44:59 AM)

Okay, here are five more. Thanks.

Brandon,_W.L.
Brannan,_J.M.
Brantley,_W.F.
Bratton,_J.
Brayman,_M.

bountyhunter -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/16/2006 6:08:35 AM)

Do you have one on Breckinridge? I beleive he should be next in order. I'll work his next if you don't have it - his should be a bit more lengthy than these first few - most of them didn't make it to brigadier until about mid to late war.

Oh and did you want us to take a stab at their ratings?

marecone -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/16/2006 2:24:40 PM)

All of you are doing a great job. Can't wait to see it in the game. Well done [&o]

No one's working on him, so I'll put you down for him.

Yes, it would be great if people would recommend ratings; otherwise, I'll come up with them and see if people approve.

bountyhunter -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/17/2006 5:00:06 PM)

I'll take the next five on your list. I figure it is better to have something to edit on these guys than nothing at all.

Gil R. -> RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally) (12/18/2006 12:24:57 AM)

Those would be:

Brevard,_T.W.
Briggs,_H.S.
Brisbin,_J.S.
Brooke,_J.R.
Brooks,_W.T.

Let me know if you want to do any of the bigger names.

There is far less controversy with the lesser names, especially around here where memoirs seem to be considered nearly all truth, haha.

Anyway I'll take another five at your convenience.
