denisonh -> Pearl Harbor Photos (12/9/2006 8:59:41 PM)

I know the anniversary was two days a go, but I had a friend send me a portfolio of pics of PH on 7 Dec. Most I had seen, but some I had not.

Thanks for sharing. I still have trouble believing that Shaw returned to active duty after that explosion.

Love the guy in Pic 9 with the rifle[8D]. He looks like he's itching to shoot something ... anything!

Big B -> RE: Pearl Harbor Photos (12/10/2006 2:00:13 AM)

Great set of photos, some I haven't seen before either.
Picture #7 I'm not certain of what I'm looking at, picture #17 must be Nevada grounded at Hospital Point.

Very Cool[8D] [&o]

denisonh -> RE: Pearl Harbor Photos (12/10/2006 2:12:35 AM)

Neither did I, hence the title.....[;)]

I would guess it is some vessel used for submarine rescue. Probably the USS Widgeon (ASR 1).

Just a guess, but it looks like a diving bell on the deck of some ship. You know - the presurized things then send down for the guys working under water or doing a sub rescue.

tsimmonds -> RE: Pearl Harbor Photos (12/10/2006 4:22:24 AM)

Pretty sure this is Arizona.

That's what I thought too.

Notice the lighter painted tops of the main turrents. The turret tops were painted different colors so the floatplane pilots could identify their own BB. Documentation has been recently announced that the Arizona was painted 5S - sea blue and light grey fighting tops. The tops of the 1st, 2nd, and 4th turret were painted read. Big B may have to recolor his Peal Harbor BBs!
